  1. GeForce now seems pretty reasonable at max settings, provided you are close to a datacenter. I need to play around with it a bit. My primary system is a iMac 5k (though I usually play on a 1440p secondary monitor), and other than the annoyance of having to play at 1080p (which don't get me wrong, is annoying as hell!), the service is otherwise entirely playable on max settings.

I can't dual-boot because this iMac is also my media server and work machine, but it looks like I can run GeForce now on my second (2k) monitor and have similar performance to what I was getting natively. Not bad for $5 a month I guess if I have to do _something_.

    No.

This is not about you. Support has to deal with account compromise issues repeatedly. People unwilling to use simple password security result in support having to waste time dealing with ME ME ME people who think they deserve to do what they want and screw everyone else, rather than dealing with actual in-game issues.

Don't reuse passwords. Stop offloading your lack of discipline onto the shoulders of others.

  3. Thank you.

I think you've provided a very succinct example of the general toxicity in GW2 raid culture, and why it is self-perpetuating. People assume raid groups are elitist and unwelcoming, so they do not try to raid, so the number of "raiding" users stagnates or shrinks (as people leave), making it even harder to get into raiding or to find non-"elitist" raiders.

It's an unfortunate cycle. I'm not actually sure ArenaNet can do anything about it though. They're certainly not going to make people play with folks they don't want to, and trying to get more folks interesting in raiding will likely just lead to those same "elitists" complaining that too many "newbs" are trying to create/join raid groups..

  4. If you are going to be modifying siege, may I humbly suggest that you modify the drop options to NOT allow siege within a certain distance of other interactables? This would end griefing by dropping siege on tactivators/npcs/etc.

(obviously while taking into consideration still being able to place siege close enough together to be useful for gates, etc).

    > Also, why was it not explicitly stated in the "PvP/WvW **SKILL SPLIT**" thread that this functionality change would also apply to PvE? Seems like a bit of a miscommunication to me.

The devs were very clear that splits would not affect the base functionality of skills. They were upfront about that. Your concerns aside (and as a thief I feel your pain on environmental CC), they were at least clear on this.

See, there's part of the problem. If you honestly believe that the goal of any of the developers who, I'm sure, work crazy hours and (as we've heard many times over) use their own free time to work on QOL fixes and other side projects for this community (not to mention reddit and wiki posts, etc) - if you sincerely believe that those same developers don't care about the long-term health of a game that, I guarantee, they have put more time, effort, and thought into than any player has - well, then I genuinely think you may want to re-evaluate your own priorities and biases.

Especially if you are one of those that think your opinions give you the right to insult, belittle or otherwise bully the developers to get what you want.

  7. I wonder if most of the posters here realize the reason they get so few updates from so few developers is because the responses are so toxic and insulting.

I mean, would *you* want to respond when comments on why changes happen (or don't happen) are met with "what work do they even do?" or "You don't care about your customers" or similar statements?

Any of you that watched the dev chats on balance changes should be well aware of the layers and layers of testing that need to happen for every single skill, combination, and gamemode in order to minimize the chance of unintended consequences. Skill fact changes need translations, possibly new audio, possibly animation changes. all of that needs to be QA'd, and then iterated on. Imagine all the possible combinations of skills that could be used together, now imagine needing to figure all of that out as a small team, because you *know* as soon as they are released your awesome playerbase is going to try things in crazy combinations until they find a "new best" meta. Especially when *your* goal is to try and ensure there isn't just one "meta", but several acceptable ways to play each class, and each specialization.

You do all this work, then look to the forums where all you see is toxicity from the playerbase when your changes take time, with literally the sorts of insults and put-downs usually reserved for teenagers in high-school, and you wonder why you get no communication or updates? *especially* when reading these forums take away from their other tasks?

Ben, and the other Devs who lurk on these posts: Thank you for your dedicated work on our behalf, and for being willing to brave the minority of toxic posters who try to steal all the oxygen here. Thank you for the explanation of why balance patches will happen independently of tournaments. Those of the playerbase who care about providing constructive, detailed reports will be sure to report promptly when the patch drops if there are any issues.

To those of you who would rather insult the makers of this game you supposedly *enjoy* and push them out of communicating with you? Take some time and reflect on what your toxic attitude and culture robs from these forums, these people, and indeed our community.

    Thanks.

    Can I have your stuff?

I'm sorry you can't afford the Gucci bag of the GW2 world, but I for one would like to continue seeing content created and MO has made it clear this pricing makes it possible. I'm sure there are other games out there where you can get every single cosmetic item for free or cheaply. I wish you the best of luck in them (but I still want your stuff!)

  9. What?!

The settings config is in the GUI now. There isn’t a translation layer hidden in the client anymore translating the windows app to OS X, so there’s literally nothing to configure.

Jon’s comment was sound, effective advice. My 5K iMac just literally arrived this morning and I will be using Jon’s advice to set it up,

I’m sorry there aren’t any text files for you, but calling Jon’s comments insulting is, IMHO, the insult!

The devtracker RSS isn't helpful, though, because unlike the old RSS, it doesn't actually surface the contents of dev posts - it just links to threads, some of which are hundreds of pages long, and basically asks you to go hunting through them for dev posts. :(
