    > Sooo, let me get this straight... instead of a complete product, which you can sit in and drive directly you're offering me a load of spare parts with no engine and poor material quality. Okay, let's upgrade the analogy from a screenshot of the UI Icon to a set of exotic armor an screenshots of the Envoy. Without the chest piece. Delivered separately, some assembly required.

you asked for a Ferrari for 10k. sacrifices must be made. but i still get the look and a hot car for a fraction of the price. that's enough to make me happy

it's not a Ferrari, but it still looks pretty darn hot. enjoy!

  3. except imagine the guy has been caught drunk in the parking lot of McDonald's every day for a couple months. it's not a one time thing. you honestly gonna believe he never once drove himself there while drunk? that every single time he's there "waiting for his wife"?

is it possible it's a false positive? yes. is it likely? no. is it possible people use Cheatengine totally legitimately (for their own at home offline 1 person player game session)? yes. but why leave it running in the background while playing an online game time after time after time after time. is THAT kind of usage legit? probably not.

TL;DR if you DO use Cheatengine "legitimately" on your own time... don't leave it running in the background of a multiplayer game... or expect to eventually catch a banhammer

  4. lulz... a week ago the forums were "omg anet all these people are haxorzing in wvw and pvp and i have videos to prove it DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!!!!1!eleventy!! phht anet never does anything to stop the hax"

yesterday "we banned nearly 1600 accounts because hax"

today "OMG ANET YOU BANNED UNFAIRLY"

i play with taco and reshade. i tinkered with just the dps meter aspect of arcdps a while back, but after it wore out it's amusement i removed it. i did not use the templates. i'm still playing just fine... in fact WvW seemed... easier last night... >snicker<

    > Your ideas are terrible for the game as far as I am concerned. You don't get people attached to the game with everything being accessible. You get them to play more with a little bit of frustration at some point. The truth is this game has always wanted to have some difficult content to achieve and even then, it is so much optional.

something can be accessible and frustrating at the same time. no one's asking things on a silver platter. it still should be a task to complete... an accomplishment to be proud of... accessible =/= easy. if something is INaccessible... no chance of ever attaining it... people tend to leave as they feel they have nothing to play toward.

ya know... i knew a game dev who was cocky and made a bunch of incorrect assumptions about what people liked just like you... he screwed up loot in the game he was working on, then transferred to another studio and screwed up their loot too... you don't, by chance, favor a sun/solar/flaming theme, do you? i mean... since you won't tell us what game(s) you work(ed) on, i have to either assume you're full of it, or guess who you might be

    lol wow. i don't even...

core design philosophy is what brought people to the game originally. deviating from that too far, drives those people away. there are SOOOO many MMOs out there now... it's become an oversaturated market... you need a niche to attract. otherwise you're just another cookie cutter mmo. GW2 HAD something unique... now it's drifting toward "meh... yet another mmo"... and that drift away from their core philosophy has cost them a tidy chunk of change. and this is NOT the only game this has happened to

they say everyone is an expert on the internet. that said... in all honesty i doubt your claim of game development. so pray tell me: which game(s) have you worked on?

    >

    > The closure of SWG had little to do with the NGE. SWG was closed because they didn't want to divide the playerbase between their old Star Wars MMO(SWG) and their new one (SWTOR). Sony's license to publish the product was at an end and rather than renewing it, a license was given to Bioware/EA.

    > SWG had a lot of other problems, ones those who were passionate about the game refuse to really acknowledge in retrospect. While the NGE was certainly unpopular, a large number of the changes that were made were done because the game was already bleeding customers (mainly to WoW) .

    > The combat was terrible pre-NGE and during it's peak, the game's infrastructure was not able to handle some basic things, leading to buggy and frustrating player experiences.

    >

    > @"Feanor.2358"

    > The NGE parallel is **a meme** that some people like to draw when they see a choice made by an MMO developer that they disagree with. It's a change that fundamentally altered the existing product because it was faltering. It made changes to some basic design to attempt to bring the game in line with a rapidly changing playerbase that was influenced heavily by the success of competitors. It was an unpopular change that fans like to scapegoat for the eventual downfall of the title.

    > But it is just a meme.

here's a little light reading for you:

    https://www.pcgamer.com/the-biggest-mmo-failures-in-history/

it has an entry for SWG. come see me after you read it

  9. NGE was the most infamous fail in gaming history. SWG was super popular... had 3 expansions in only 2 years... people loved it! the 3rd expansion, however, completely changed the game. people left in DROVES. so many people were demanding refunds for the expack that Sony actually started issuing those refunds only about 2 weeks later.... took SIX more years for them to admit defeat and close the game down

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars_Galaxies

popular game, people played it because they liked the structure that that particular game had. then an expansion comes along and changes the game to an entirely different kind of game. the whole tone of the playstyle changes. the whole tone of the GAME changes. a select few like the changes, but a large number don't... they liked the game the old way. they leave in droves, taking their money with them. game continues to limp along for several more years, until......?

    gee. sounds familiar.

the question is, can this trainwreck be turned around in time?

They're all just vanity items.

    > >

    > > until one can freely swap the stats on their ascended gear for no cost or time or special tools needed, i'm afraid i'm going to have to disagree with you about it being purely cosmetic. is it expensive to get that convenience? absolutely yes it is. but legendary is not _merely_ a cosmetic.

    >

    > The point is, the money you spending on crafting it are more than you'd ever spend on the "non-free" stat-swapping. Much, much more. You can even craft (and many people do) multiple ascended sets for all your needs, at a fraction of the price. Sure, there is built-in function, but its price makes it irrelevant. The vanity is the only real reason to bother with a legendary. Any "practical" argument just doesn't hold, because they are absolutely, utterly *impractical*.

so? just because it's "impractically" expensive doesn't mean it isn't different and not "merely cosmetic". feel free to keep driving your WV because it's cheaper... i want the porsche!

your links showing alternate ways to acquire legendary armor in no way negates the assertion that the legendary purple is "just cosmetic"

  13. and the American flag has 50 pentagrams on it.

(sadly, i've actually heard that argument before)

i'm a Christian... and i can see this is no satanic symbol. it is quite obviously an imaginary animal that draws inspiration for it's design from horned animals like goats, springboks, and addaxes... on a body that is largely (aside from the antelope/goat cloven hooves) a kangaroo's.

any remote similarity to Bahomet is simply because both share goat-like features.

also, you missed the bus.. the time to complain was last month with the DEMONIC skimmer skin.

  14. i only just stumbled into this topic now... i kinda like Stihl's auto costume swap idea. could be something cool as an optional toggle. while it does seem odd to walk thru a town armed to the teeth, there are some people that still want to present that look. and as for the arguments against it... well, the tech is already there. jump into water, you change to a rebreather and different weapons. do certain hearts and personal story chapters, and suddenly you are wearing a whole different outfit, sometimes with sometimes without different weapons and skills to boot.

it doesn't seem that it should be too bad to set it so that you optionally could swap to, say, the arctic explorer outfit or fancy winter outfit every time you go to the shiverpeaks, or the jungle explorer outfit for Maguuma or Heart of Maguuma. Perhaps the crystal nomad outfit for Maguuma Wastes and Crystal Desert, etc

Ringmaster's Hat... with the hair portion dyed abyss.

altho... to be fair... while GW2 has awesome customization capabilities... the games that can handle plopping a hat down on top of hair and keeping it visible are few and far between... and figuring out how to do so is normally a nightmare of clipping and weird hairstyles. it's easiest to just cover the hair

that said, the most egregious offender i noticed when looking through the available headwear was the "Top Hat" it looks sharp, but it also looks like you have literally been shaved bald. most of the rest of the helms and cowls and hoods... don't show hair for obvious reasons.

  16. QQ. that's not a pimp hat... it's a swashbuckler's kinda hat... thas why i like it..

the only thing that i saw that looked like a HAT... that looked like you could have hair with it, was the "Ringmaster's Hat". the male version has a bandana wrapped around the back, but the female version has a fringe that looks like it might be recolorable to look like hair (which is the same system the hat i pictured uses)

    unfortunately, it's not currently available.

there's a few more, but meh.

could there be better options for headgear? yes.

are there NO options that show hair? no

still looks reasonably healthy attendance to me for a "dead game mode". yeah. some of the events are a little lighter than they used to be, but still got lots of people showing up

    > WvW has reward tracks for skins, gift of battle and tracks for legendary armor and backpack... the loot drops isn't the reason people play it. I would argue it's actually one of the most rewarding modes, its just reallly really grindy so you need to actually enjoy it (or hate yourself) to dedicate yourself to some of the more major rewards.

    >

it has that NOW... those are relatively recent additions... and even then all the improvements weren't added all at the same time. when the game launched, and for a good 2 years or so without any real meaningful change... WvW was horrid for your gold supplies. you had to repair your armor. you had to pay to start upgrades, and the bigger the upgrade, the more expensive it was. the only way to buy siege was gold from the merchant right there. couldn't even sell it to each other for a reduced rate. if you were ACTIVE in attacking and defending and upgrading, it was nothing to blow thru 10 gold or so a night just keeping everything upgraded and sieged up (more than that if you went crazy with the golems or superior siege)...and that's not even including food costs. serious WvWers were FORCED to run dungeons (the go-to cash-cow back in the day) and world bosses to make up for what they LOST running WvW. a tag cost only (only!) 100 gold... but if you wanted to tag on your alt character instead of your main? that was another 100 gold. want a gift of battle? kill enough dudes on the field to EARN your 500 badges. want a gift of exploration because you want a shiny weapon? yup... you had to explore the borderlands too.. all of them, because even tho all 3 of the BLs are the same map... each one is "different"

then, in no particular order, (but also not all at the same time, but rather in dribs and drabs over the years).. they removed armor damage when outmanned, they added vendors that let you buy exotic armor and weapons for a reduced gold cost + badges (didn't exist before.. had to buy/craft/luck into your kit), added ascended trinkets for reduced cost + badges, they removed the wvw map requirement from world exploration, they removed armor repair cost completely, they changed structure upgrades to automatic based on number of dolyak deliveries, and then finally... FINALLY... added WvW reward tracks very similar to PvP tracks...AND they FINALLY added a way to get legendary equipment from WvW

the way WvW is now is a luxury compared to how it was at the start...should have been that way all along, but eh *shrug*
