Spoken like someone who isn’t very experienced in PvP. I’m carrying teams as hard as I can and if I can keep winning fights 1vs2 then i personally don’t deserve to lose that game or have it affect my record. I remind you I was Plat 1/2 in every season before I left and trying to push into the top 100 so ending up stuck here in Gold 1 is definitely not where I belong.

  2. After a 2 year break playing ESO I just returned to Gw2. I’m mostly a PvPer and before my break I spent every season in Plat 2/3. I mained Rev but took over on DH after Rev got nerfed to oblivion. Now I’m back I jumped back on to DH, realised the meta is still pretty similar to before and after 10 games I felt like my skill level was only slightly worse than before I left.

I got placed in Gold 3 which I totally expected. However across the course of the season I didn’t move up to plat as I expected, after 100 games I have finished in Gold 1. This weekend my games I feel like I’m playing against people far below my skill level, most games I have won more 1 vs 2 fights than ever before and I’m finishing the games with all top stats whilst the rest of my team seem to be completely new PvP. It’s left me feeling frustrated and made me realise that Gw2 PvP is just not on the same level as ESO or other mmos.

The problem here? I see Gw2 PvP as having 2 huge problems which keep it from being as good as other mmos for the foreseeable future. First the game mode of capturing points has literally been the only game mode in PvP for years, only deathmatch existed alongside it and that was short lived. This game mode does not really allow much individual skill to effect the outcome. It relies so heavily on a team playing well as a team together and rotating effectively. The second problem is the matchmaking, it is horrendous so much of the time. Streaks are absolutely a thing and people who have been winning will go on a 5-10 game losing streak where bots or bad players are constantly placed in your team and the games are in unwinnable.

Don’t get me wrong the best players are still at the top and the worst players are still at the bottom however Gold division still finds itself full of players who should be bronze and at the same time players who should be high platinum. With the poor match making a Plat player can find themselves in a team of 4 bronzes playing against a team of 5 Plat/Golds. This clearly shows a problem.

I love Gw2 and I want to see it succeed but I’m a huge PvPer and Gw2 PvP frustrated and saddened me more than any other mmo, that’s why I make this post and want to see if anyone agrees with me.

    > I think we can talk about the first sign of an unwinnable situation when you get +1ed somewhere, survive through kiting, bind them and your team still manages to lose the rest of the map in a 4v3. But then again, every game can be winnable - happens all the time that a team gets a grip halfway through the match in games that most would consider unwinnable

I hate this when I’m on a point and manage to kill 2 of their team after a 3 minute fight then smiling to myself and look at the map expecting a full cap and see my team are all dead and the map is for the enemy team haha.

  4. Currently I’m running a condi shortbow renegade for PvE content and it feels really effective and strong. However personally I enjoy power more, specially the sword/sword and hammer combo.

Is it better to make the expensive changes to Diviner/Berserkers gear for open world, fractals and trials content? Or am I just as effective playing my condi shortbow renegade?

    > 2- Hammer is too slow, good luck trying to hit any enemy that decides not to be a stationary rock. This is why hammer is never seen in pvp or wvw.

    > 3- Shortbow is not used in pvp or wvw either! Skill #2 and #3 will never hit a moving target, and the weapon lacks any defensive ability. Its a shame that even condi renegades never use this weapon in wvw or pvp

    >

    > Thats it. The character selection says Revenants can either be melee or ranged magic. I just wish it included a big disclaimer: "Warning: Revenant ranged weapons will only hit stationary objects!"

You sound like someone who had never played Rev ? shortbow Rev is literally 1 of 3 meta classes in pvp right now.

I don't mind the class specs specially with Elite specs. A lot is fun and there is already a nice amount to learn. Just wish we had some different game modes because conquest is mind numbing after 5 years of playing it.

    > Yes I would love capture the flag, it is one of my favorite game modes in PvP. I think it would work very well in GW2.

    >

    > There can also be add-ons in capture the flag, such as capturing an objective that gives more points to the team that captures it. Think Capricorn but instead of Conquest you get CtF.

    >

    > Or there could also be buff add-ons, like from Eternal Coliseum where teamfights will be greatly enhanced to teams w/ the add-ons. Definitely a fun game mode idea.

Exactly. There are plenty of ways to incorporate these game modes into Guild Wars 2 and keep it in a way that even die hard conquest fans can enjoy the mechanics. Flag carrier for example gains a cripple buff. Could also disable stealth and dodging when carrying but allow teleport so then thief becomes a viable flag carrier but would die fast.

  8. So I was thinking of ideas to give PvP a bit more variety in the future and I don't think Anet see it as impossible to add a new game mode to PvP. We just need to push them a bit more!

The first idea and one which would perhaps work best in Gw2 keeping with the general mechanics of conquest would be King of the Mound. This could have a Skritt theme where a mound would spawn with a capture zone randomly on the map. This would have a capture bar the same as conquest which would go up with the same pace as a shrine capture in WvW. The zone could only be captured when none of the opposing team players are left in the zone. To create slightly more balance after one zone is captured the new zone would spawn in a completely different area of the map. A team would need 3 captures to win the game.

The second idea could be a capture the flag style mode where a team have to capture a part from an enemy base and bring it back to their base to put towards building a golem. When they complete the golem with 3 parts then the golem fires at the enemy base winning the game. This mode is pretty common in other mmos but it works well and could easily be given a gw2 theme.

So do you guys think we will see a different game mode in Gw2 PvP one day?
