  1. Almost logged in to the game today, then realised they still haven't made any changes and alliances are still coming 'soon'.

I'm now starting to think my old age pension will come before alliances.

Picking up on someone else thread about the alliance baby now getting ready for kindergarden, maybe we should start talking about the baby as if it's real and giving it a background as well as telling stories about how it's getting on.

First, let's assign it a gender. In keeping with the thread, I'm going to call it a 'them', neither male nor female. Them is slightly brown with oriental features and a mixed european/african/oriental heritage with some links to native americans and aborigines (and any other racial traits we can throw in).

Them's current state is confused- as it doesn't really know what it is yet or how it will develop, and isn't really that keen on going to learn things and play with others..

  2. The OP just wants ranger nerfed so he can switch back to his thief main and not have to worry about a class he has trouble against.

Roaming isn't the main part of the game- and against any sort of organisation soul beasts aren't that strong.

Sic Em could be removed entirely as I generally don't run it on my mainly zerging/group ranger, there are more useful skills to bring as utility.

Dolyak stance is a life saver, without which spike damage from stealth would wipe you out before you can move.

  3. >. Closed/hidden squads don't hurt WvW - it compounds with the difficulty of doing things without a group and players refusing to learn or meet the demands of a commander

Yes, they do. If new players can't see anyone on the map or anything much happening they are less likely to stick around, and over time that damages wvw.

Of course new players should be encouraged to join TS, play a wanted class, etc etc but frequently this is communicated as 'get in TS or GTFO' or 'use this build/class or you won't get in the squad'.

It's pretty much down to die-hards and a few infrequent visitors now. When I log on my friends list looks like a desert.

  4. Gz Lare on 2.1k posts.

It feels as if Lare has taken it upon himself to defend Anet and attack anyone who dares to ask when/if alliances will ever happen. Maybe you should ask Anet for a job:-)

Personally I would feel better if Anet just tell us the current state of wvw development, whether anyone is actually working on it at all and if they are then what's the current road map and estimate for alliances. If they said '5-7 years' then they would make it to ten years from announcement to implementation, which would probably be some sort of record for developing something within an already published game!

I wonder what will come first, Lare giving up on defending Anet or alliances. I should start a book on it. Although really it's a one horse race...

  5. Hidden tags and closed squads just help the game mode die faster.

Players who might come to try out wvw enter, see nothing going on, no chat, no tags, nothing really changing hands and assume no one is there and go back to pve land never to return. You're basically starving the mode of fresh meat.

'I tried it a few times but there was never anyone there' is something I have heard so often.

Yes, I understand the reasoning of those that like hidden tags and closed squads and discord/TS only groups etc and short term it's much more efficient (and more fun for those in the squad) but longer term it's not helping the game mode.

Kinda reminds me of the pvp brigade in another game who wouldn't fight each other but spent all the time going around killing lower level players and preventing groups from doing dungeons and then started moaning when there was hardly anyone still playing...

  6. None. Most servers don't have commanders on outside of prime time reset night. Most will feel like ghost towns outside prime time.

If you do manage to choose a stacked server be aware those stacking it will move sooner or later having ruined the existing structure within the server, leaving you in a ghost server fighting in too high a tier, as they go 'looking for the fights'.

I'd recommend you wait for alliances. it's only been almost 3 years since it was announced...

  7. I'm surprised there are still some people who think posting ideas for changes to wvw is worth the effort of typing.

It's quite clear there is no wvw dev team (except the intern who is allowed to work on it on Friday afternoons unless something more urgent like changing an NPC's footwear in pve comes up) so making suggestions for major changes is an exercise in futility.

Almost 3 years since alliances were 'announced' , enough said.

  8. What would a wvw player spend that gold on? Boosting reward tracks would make more sense to enable wvw players to get some of the char/account bound materials needed instead of being forced to pve.

Don't know what the current coin to gold exchange rate is, but if I want more gold I can just use 15 minutes of my rl earnings to buy some GW currency and convert it to ingame gold using the exchange- why spend hours farming it?

I remember when throwing grenades would kill yourself, with ret doing more damage per hit than the grenade did to the enemy. It was like suicide.
