  1. When I'm playing my mesmer and in the mood, I port for jps or mastery points. I don't ever do it expecting a tip. I do it because I enjoy helping people. I know how frustrating some of those puzzles can be, and I like being able to save someone time or frustration. Tips that I receive usually range between 1-5 gold, with it most often being 1 gold. I don't send it back, but I do send a thank you to the person who sends the tip. Since I'll often spend up to an hour helping out people by porting, keeping a few gold in tips helps offset the loss of funds that I could be making by doing other content. Never expected or necessary, but it's nice when it happens.

I tip other mesmers periodically. I often do the jumping puzzle and skip the port because I enjoy jps. However, I take the ports when I'm pressed for time or just am not in the mood to do do the jp. I tend to tip when the mesmer is friendly or when it's a jumping puzzle that is more involved. Sometimes I also tip people popping mentor tags and helping people find the entrance. I generally tip between 50 silver to 2 gold. Regardless of whether I tip or no, I always say "Thank you." I tend not to tip when mesmers ask for tips though.

  2. The pricing that's being advertised as a "discount" is not truly a discount. It's the same price the package was prior to the "sale" but being advertised with a discount, plus unlocked episodes are being advertised as increasing the percentage of the discount.

Long story made short: The "sale" price, be it 20%, 40% or 70% off is the exact same price as it was a six weeks ago when the package wasn't advertised as being on sale.

  3. The other day, I was in the trading post building in LA and noticed the paintings propped on the table and the one that was a small copy of the load screen for Straits of Desolation. Then, I was struck by all those little touches that I just run past. Props to Anet for actually sweating the details.

I was on my first horse at age 3 months. I was solo riding not too long after I was walking. Side saddle riding is horrible. And yes, it absolutely is sexist because the only reason for it was from gender-based social conventions for modesty, which clearly aren't present in Guild Wars 2. Without such gender-based conventions for modesty, nobody would ever choose to ride side saddle. If the sole issue is clipping, then a side saddle animation would not needed for characters, male or female, who wear pants.

If it's for some sort of mandatory throwback to unsafe riding practices based on archaic social perceptions of gender that uses clipping as an excuse, regardless of what the character is wearing, then of course people are going to be opposed. I suppose it's your choice to try and make it into some sort "kitten drama," however it doesn't really get to the reason why a lot of people would not want to see it introduced into GW2.

Nowhere did I ever say making it OPTIONAL wasn't fine, but thanks for letting me know it's a game because I totally wouldn't have known that if it weren't for you!

When you ride a horse, there is a great amount of work done with the thighs and knees to help with balance, absorb shock, help guide the horse, and just to keep secure in your seat. There's a reason why those side saddle riding ladies tended to be riding "genteel" horses and you don't see someone saddle breaking a horse while side saddle. The loss of stability and control in that position is huge. It's scary and dangerous, particularly when jumping or riding on rough terrain. I used to have a horse that would buck every third stride. I can't imagine having to ride side saddle on her.

    And just to clarify...

It would be appropriate for any gender to ride a broom side saddle. Straddling a broom with full weight on it in the air would quickly become painful and be fairly unstable. Well then, there's a vote for all characters riding side saddle.

Male characters in trench coats or robes have clipping issues too. Guess you don't have any issues if all characters ride side saddle on all mount items as well. You know, since some things clip.

    > Nope, dumps you back to Lion's Arch, where the instance starts. Instance aborts always return you to where you entered the instance. That only worked in the demo because the "entry" for the instance was temporarily in Amnoon square.

Yep. I lost connection just after I completed the first story chapter and was outside Amnoon. I reconnected back in Lions Arch with no waypoint. Luckily, I had a Lily pass or I would have had to go through it again, which would have been annoying.

  10. Imo, yes. The price point is good and it's worth it just for the mounts alone, providing you have interest in the mounts. I didn't buy HoT for about 2 years because the price was too high for the content that interested me (mostly solo player who plays in short sessions with frequent afk). I bought PoF before release and have no regrets.

  11. My oldest was running around with us in World of Warcraft when he was 5. He made a night elf ranger and named him "Offcourse," which my husband and I found hysterically funny because he would run around on the roads like a drunkard. He would memorize all the spells in the gem and pretend to cast them on the playground at school. Yes, he was "that kid." When he was around 10, our guild would take him on lower level raids.

Both my kids have been playing GW2 since release. It was the first MMORPG that my youngest ever played and he bought his copy with his birthday money. He was 7 years old. He completed the Wintersday jp before I did and never let me live it down. I'm not even going to get into how much he razzes me about the fact that he got an ascended chest the first time he ever did Tequatl, while it took me over 2 years of almost daily runs.

We also play other games together (video and modern board games) and my oldest and I were in a Firefly tabletop RPG campaign a couple years ago. My youngest is has been trying to get me to run a regular family pen& paper RPG campaign, but I'm too lazy. I really enjoy my kids. They're pretty neat dudes.

They are also currently fighting over the computer in the other room because my youngest wants to get on to play GW2 and get his jackal mount, but the oldest wants to finish watching a show he and his girlfriend are streaming.

  12. This or even just having it so you can dye the main color and it mutes it to a base color that's in the color category, i.e. dying any pink or red, no matter how bright would give a reddish-pink fur on the springer or dying any yellow dye would give a creamy color fur on the springer. It would avoid neon mounts, but allow a little bit more variety.

  13. It took me several repetitions, but I didn't mind. However, I can see where it would be a challenge for some, particularly if they have physical limitations.

I think it would be great to leave it as it is and make it a repeatable challenge for a reward and then put in a shorter, simpler version for the mastery that contains no reward.

  14. It seems like that might be it, but then that also means that beyond the shady way that's being done, there's no price break on buying the complete package vs. each individual episode under most circumstances, and I'm pretty sure there used to be a price break on the package. For example, Season 3, which is not listed as "on sale" is 960 for the pack regularly vs. the 1200 gems it would cost to buy individual episodes (representing a 20% discount on the package), and each episode unlocked reduces the price more. Anyhow, it was just really weird and definitely different than the way they've previously listed things. I'm not even sure if it's actually a sale.

Edit to add: I found a piece of paper from a couple of weeks ago. On the paper, I wrote down the cost of LS Season 2 for Account #1. It was the same total gem cost then as it is today, and it wasn't "on sale" when I wrote it on the paper (I was trying to decide how to spend 4k gems from PoF Ultimate purchase). So, it seems that this current "sale" on Living Story Season 2 Complete Pack isn't really a sale, but just a different way they are listing the complete pack.
