  1. I'm new to Linux. I am trying to get GW2 running on Xubuntu 20.04 x64. I installed Lutris and GW2, but I am running into the network error. Apparently I have to switch Wine version to 5.7.11 but it's not available in the Runner options. I can only choose between Lutris-6.0-x86_64 and System (5.0 (Ubuntu 5.0-3ubuntu1)). I've been googling for over an hour as to how to install an older version of Wine but I can't figure it out. Any advice would be much appreciated...

**NVM**...I'm an idiot. Another Wine version could be added straight from Lutris by clicking the downward arrow next to Wine...didn't need the terminal at all.

  2. I think you at least used to be on Gandara. If that's still the case and you have occasion to log on in late afternoons or early evenings, if you see me on you can join on me and I'll run a hidden tag and give you participation. I only do home defense, however; since we're vs two german servers and we're empty and dead last in t5 it means primarily flipping camps while dodging zergs and gank squads. If that's acceptable to you then feel free to join.

  3. Try to think of it as a feature: the bots artificially decrease the queuing time and makes it seem to the uninformed wanderer like the game mode is still active. ANet just needs to improve the scripting of the bots so they don't break immersion and provide a better experience for those who can follow what's happening on their screens.

On Mesmer? Well, you can scout. Stand in the tower and call out enemy zergs that attack it. Harvest nodes when available.

Sorry to hear this is happening to you. It must be really frustrating.

Put "Need help with buying gems" as the subject if you want them to even read your ticket. They won't do anything about it, but perhaps you'll feel better knowing it's at least been seen by a human.

  6. Chasing down pvers doing dailies isn't roaming, it's just being trash. All it does is validates the preconception that WvWers are elitist, toxic douches. People who do this yet whine about roaming being dead can take a look in the mirror.

  7. In Breaking Bad terms this thread is filled with Heisenbergs, Twilight Tempest is Skylar, and instead of having their last conversation it's just Walt going on about doing it for his family.

She already called y'all out. Just have that last conversation.

  8. Don't mind me, I'm just another idiot career Mesmer who's a free kill to thieves, but... I don't see their stealth being the issue aside from perhaps DE. My issue is primarily their mobility; when taken by surprise, by the time I've broken the (unblockable) venom stun and tried to cast GS 2 or 4, which each take effectively 1 second to cast, he's out of range. At this point he's shaved off around 3/4 of my health so I can put my heal on cd now right next to my failed phantasm, waste my second stunbreak on round #2 and then die. It's probably a l2p issue for me.

However, I don't think we're going down a very healthy road by nerfing basic game mechanics that have existed since the dawn of the game. For Mesmers, the long-asked-for baseline IP wasn't a problem before Chrono. CI was in the game from day 1 and it was never a problem until all of a sudden thanks to cMirage. Finally instead of addressing the actual issues of cMirage they just removed a dodge - halving a basic game mechanic.

I know this is a thief thread but I don't know enough about the class to comment on traits where it might need fine-tuning. All I know is, it's a slippery slope down a very unpleasant path when you start nerfing mechanics or core traits to combat issues brought on specifically by poorly designed elites.

Yeah, we're talking about the geniuses who thought that removing a tier and rolling out the turtle meta was the perfect time for adding more PvE crap to bring the noobs in. A stellar plan. If you're wishing for brainstorms at Arenanet I wouldn't expect more than a few sprinkles.

    > While I understand why some people dislike HoT expansion, I find it beautiful and super interesting. It stimulates group play over solo and if you think about it - this is the point of an MMORPG. I have a hard time to like something in PoF. However, I believe there can be done some nice additions or reworks to the HoT style but keep its base idea.

I'm sort of with you there in that the HoT maps really had some cool designs. It's just a shame that trying to explore them was far from fun as a solo player due to the overwhelming infestations of condispam mobs. It wasn't unmanageable but not really fun either. It was difficult to stop even for a moment to observe the beautiful design of a map without getting aggro from another aids bot. However, the design was interesting enough that I even did the meta in the whatever dragon map several times despite not enjoying post-core PvE - although I mostly just needed the meta to get the leadership runes which were not available from WvW npc at the time.

I'd actually prefer something more like the core maps. I dislike the map-specific currencies and the mastery or hero point system.

  11. They won't make another playable race since the amount of skins they'd have to go and make compatible would be a ridiculous amount of extra work.

I can't say I am particularly excited about the prospect of another elite, either. All that the previous expansions did for my class (Mesmer) was to create an elite version of the class that was superior (P2W) to the previous. Due to the power creep and my focus being only on competitive modes of the game, I had to purchase the expansions just to be able to play and not for content. Since they have now rendered both elites from both expansions useless, I see no reason to expect anything from the next one but another power creep which will then need to be nerfed until it's no longer fun to play.

What might, _might_ make me interested in PvE again would be new maps which allowed exploration without unnecessary, artificial time-gating. No more "poisonous swamps" I have to grind a mastery to not die to, or needing to farm mastery points to be able to access the next area in order to advance in the story. I just want maps like the core ones: open to explore. And please, for the love of god, no more map-specific currencies.

    > Man there is so much misinformation and lack of knowledge in this thread, probably coming from bad servers/guilds/roamers. First of all, nobody cares about roaming balance, wvw balance is for group fights, whether it is 15/30/50+ etc. If you want balance for small scale fights, you can go pvp.

So Power Mirage had to be killed off because it was over-represented in zergs? o.O

  13. No. Their budget for new servers will be spent on maps for the next expansion, not this unsupported game mode. Be happy with the Pentium 3s we have now and run an aids necro or something so timing skills is less important to your success.

Asura don't even need different versions; the females aren't exactly "top-heavy."

Can it kill unskilled players? Yes. Can it kill skilled players? Maybe, if they make a series of mistakes.

Is it fun to play? No.

Is it fun to play against? No.

There's bad and then there's bad.
