  1. I'm working towards my first legendary and it seems Gift of Fortune is the largest gold bottleneck

Are there any jumping puzzles that I can park my alts at, that rewards primarily T6 materials?

Or would it be more efficient to park alts for gold and buy the materials from the TP?

Any other good sources for T6 materials besides laurels and material promotion?

  2. What stats should a healbrand be running in high level fractals?

Sites like Snowcrows recommends Harriers, but that would be for a raid environment. Would you also use harriers for fractals? Or something with a bit more survivability, like Minstrel and Givers?

  3. I like the template system overall. It is a very much needed feature, thanks!

A few changes I'd like to see (in order of importance):

    1. Equipment and build template changes should require a manual save. Changing a skill/piece of gear should not automatically be saved to the templates, as these are usually one time changes for specific encounters. It is very easy to screw up templates when save happens automatically

    2. Allow the ability to choose an equipment template for a given build template, so both can be activated together with a single keybind. In other words, build and equipment templates should be linked, as specific builds will usually run with a specific equipment layout anyway

    3. Increase the maximum number of equipment and build templates. 6 is way too few and is sometimes not enough for a single game mode, let alone saving builds/equipment for multiple game modes (fractals, raids, wvw, open world etc)

  4. Im thinking of buying some unlimited gathering tools. I've been reading that some tools have faster animation speeds than others (e.g. consortium sickle, unbound tools), which allows you to complete a node faster

However, does that only apply if you cancel the gather early?

I always tend to gather by letting the cast bar fill up 100%. In other words, I dont cancel early and I have no intention of doing so even with my new tools

In that case, does the faster speed of certain tools actually matter to me? Or are they all technically the same speed without the early cancel?

  5. I just started playing firebrand/quickbrand where I need to maintain quickness on my party. however, with so many boons starting and ending, it gets quite difficult to quickly identify the icon you need to pay attention to (especially given the icons are so small and they shift position constantly)

are there any addons (or ingame settings) that can enlarge boon and condition icons so theyre easier to see at a glance?

  6. I tried to join a ranked pvp match earlier, picked the map, and now the game has been stuck on the map results screen since then. I'm also still in the queue apparently, so it won't let me join any other matches:

It has been like this for 3-4 hours. I can still play the game, but the results screen remains and pvp queue is broken. Tried restarting the game, changing characters, disabling all addons. Nothing seems to fix it...

    > Well, the deal is that if you want do the Quickness or Support variants of Firebrand, you need a Renegade as well. The full support variant includes the Quickness, it's just a question of which one of the duo is geared towards damage and which one towards healing. Quickbrand is the damage variant, support is the healer variant. I understand the Quickbrand+Alacrity Healer Renegade duo is favored.

Im planning on pugging most fractals, so I can't guarantee the group composition or the presence of a Renegade. In that situation, what would the group typically want me to be? Whats the general expectation of firebrands, for me to dps or to heal?

  8. Returning to the game and decided to roll a guardian. I'm only really interested in high level fractals (dont really raid). Whats the meta Firebrand build for fractals these days? I don't really mind healing/supporting or dpsing

I've seen a bunch of builds floating around, like healer, condi, quickness, power(?), and not sure which is the most desired setup for a Firebrand. Bonus points if it will also be good for the raids I decide to do once in a while (but not a big deal)

Or would it be more typical to just run a standard power DH, instead of a firebrand, for fractals?

  9. (This question is strictly about sPvP and WvW)

I have been playing Mirage in sPvP (Carrion Ineptitude - https://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Mirage_-_Carrion_Ineptitude) and realized I don't really enjoy the playstyle. Maybe I'm playing it wrong, but it feels very twitchy and reflex intensive because you need to execute quick combos in a short time to do most of your damage (e.g. see the burst combo section in the link above)

I'm looking for a more straightforward (slower?) class that doesn't rely as much on fast combos to do well. I don't mind having to do a "rotation" of specific skills after each other, I just don't want to have to do it all in a tiny burst of time. For example, the mirage burst requires landing a shatter in the middle of a mirage thrust mid-air. Another example of this with mesmer (although not in PVP) is executing something like the thaumanova reactor trick, where you have to cast CS within the cast time of Mimic. Not a fan of fast precise timings like that.

I'm also going to remove elementalist from the pool just because Im not a fan of the idea. So of the other 7 professions, how would you rank them in terms of their twitchy/reflexive/fast combo requirement?

  10. can anyone explain how a chrono can solo the cooling chamber?

I was in a group where people were expecting me to do it using portal, mimic and blink. Ive tried watching a few videos on it but its still not very clear

  11. ok so to confirm...

there is only a single backpack skin that can be obtained. this hasn't, and will not, change

but regarding the achievements themselves, I've read in various places either that 1) the achievements will reset every year, so you have to restart from stage 1 yearly and/or 2) each year there will be a new set of achievements to craft the (same) backpack, rendering any progress made pointless if you didnt complete the item within the year

is any of that true with regards to the achievements themselves? do they change/reset, or is it safe to start working on the achievements now (buying the required items) as there is no such reset/new achievement path coming?

  12. I have a total of 7 level 80 characters, and 2 below level 30

I only play 1 (maybe 2) of my 80s with any regularity. I'm wondering if there are any good places to park my other alts so I can just log into them briefly once a day and get some value out of them? Maybe at some jumping puzzles, or big events, or something?

Where are the most valuable places to park alts?

    > Mesmer - berserker for power core, works but you might not get taken as dps in PUGs

    > Chrono - berserker with commander mix (or minstrel) for support/tank role

    > Mirage - Viper but not ideal on every boss and you might not get taken on certain bosses as damage dealer in PUGs

So going back to my original question, why is berserker + commander ideal for chrono fractal and raids? why would viper + commander not work? The way I see it, Im there to give people quickness/alacrity, and that is provided by commander stats. Sure, having berserker gear would optimize my damage output, but damage isnt really my main role in PVE as a chrono

Wouldnt getting viper armor be better overall as its ideal for mirage, and at the same time doesnt hurt the main job of the chrono? i.e. I can perform both chrono and mirage roles perfectly fine? Whereas if I get berserker armor, im hurting mirage performance for a mild increase in chrono dps

  14. Ascended armor is not cheap/easy to get, so in acquiring my first set Im trying to come up with a stat set that is the most flexible for all game modes and both chrono and mirage. Came up with something like this:

    http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?vhEQRAse8dncfClfi9fCGoBMrhlTj68IiisjMAShlr+Zz2tF-jRSBQBNU9n+pBZiPBA+t/wFV+dPdBkUJIe0aAgTCApA8alG-e

The big change here is using viper armor instead of berserker for chrono. and then viper armor + switching out trinkets and weapons to viper for mirage. I dont care about extreme min maxing, but I want to be effective at my role for each game mode.

**Raids**: as chrono I get ~99% boon duration and 1400 toughness. as mirage I switch out trinkets and weapons to viper

**Fractals**: as chrono my main concern is enough boon duration (for which this is slightly overkill), but im not worried about min maxing my damage so I think viper armor here is ok instead of berserker? as mirage, I just switch out trinkets and weapons again

**WvW**: for both chrono and mirage I think having commanders is nice for the toughness, from which I also get power. then having viper armor gives me hybrid damage, which is a bit more balanced?

**Open world**: lends itself mostly to mirage, but chrono damage with this setup is sufficient I think

I feel like if I get berserker armor then mirage isn't really playable, whereas getting viper makes mirage ideal but doesnt hurt the main job of the chrono in any game mode (as commanders is the most important stat). Is there a more flexible setup? Am I missing anything?

I guess the main question here, really, is whether using vipers instead of berserker armor is a huge detriment when playing chrono across different game modes?

of course over time I'll acquire specific armor stats for specific roles/specs, but for my first set of ascended armor is this the most flexible stat choice?
