  1. I see a lot of people in a tizzy rushing to find really good Canthan elite specs. Keep in mind Kalla wouldn't survive in a desert, and she never likely set foot in one. Anything goes with regards to this new elite, which allows me to once again shout from the rooftops:

    **RAZAH**

Legendary Mistborn stance, with a scepter mainhand. Takes slight inspiration from channeling magic Ritualist to deliver high-voltage, mid-range power damage. The autoattack travels at a good pace, exploding on contact to harm nearby enemies. His elite spec mechanic allows you to summon the true strength of a legend, granting you supercharged 'glyph-like' versions of your currently equipped legend. Also, we gave him a portal lol.

  2. Great ideas, I think we might finally have a good reason to use something other than Herald with this.

    > I really like that you took the time to design weapon and utility skills and some of them seem fun and interesting to me. My concerns are that the kind of playstyle you suggest here is really Mesmer-ish which I wouldn't like to have. Being Invulnerable, blocking projectiles and healing, etc. - multiple functions packed in single abilities isn't healthy.

Revenant is far from a straightforward class. Most of our abilities do multiple things at once (Unrelenting Assault stacks might, does damage, AND dodges).

    > Your GS design and theme are cool but we just got ranged weapon (not that I'm against the other one) and we are very likely to get a melee one just for having some balance. Another thing is that some skills you suggest are very similar to the already existing ones but better. F.e. - GS #4 is basically _Dome of the Mists_ or Hammer #4 but better.

    > I love the idea of actually summoning from the Mists. Now we have some cheap version of Sylvari turrets as Kalla.

    > The portal thing seems great for Rev and I'd love to see it in game but for more offensive means - not defensive. We already have defensive portals and blins - Mesmer, Necro, Thief's Sword #2 Return skills. Just make it an initiation-only tool so you can't a Mesmer with better portal.

On the other hand, Revenant only has offensive teleports. A few defensive ones would be nice too. He also cited the range of this portal to be a measly 600 range. Mesmers are nowhere near threatened by this or Sand Swell, which has a 900 range.

    > **The problem with balance in the game is caused by single skills being able to do multiple things at once. This is currently the biggest problem of Mirage. So, for me, one skills applying 3 or more conditions are _unhealthy_ for the game. I really think that with Revenant's access to legends - they should be very straight-forward:

    > - Jalis - tanking, survivability, disabling

    > - Mallyx - condition management

    > - Glint - boon machine

    > - Ventari - healing and cleansing

    > - Shiro - high damage with little survivability

    > - Kalla - Well, Kalla is a bit odd because it's designed to be AoE, Condi, Condi Reduction, good buffs, stationary, range, burst and everything - very poor PvP performance and except number it's not that great in PvE either.**

I would argue that Shiro is one of the more survivable legends, giving you superspeed on demand, a targeted shadowstep, and additional dodges. Not only that, but the legends which suffer most are the ones that don't have a lot of variation. You'll never see Kalla in PvP since it can only make pseudo-wells.

    >

    > I know that GS can be very flexible. At some point the game I'd really like to use it but, in my opinion, Revenant isn't in need of pure power legend but something that would actually enhance the core class, **not** one mechanic, such as Condi, Power or flat healing.

    > I'm a fan of something like Tempest for Revenant. My weapon choices would be either: Dagger, Warhorn, Scepter or Torch.

I do think that this would be a good thing, since it would allow Arenanet to separate our power damage boosts from an elite specialization that they intended to be more supportive. Due to the nature of our utilities being tied to the legend, I don't suspect we will see a great deal of mechanical changes being tied to an elite specialization.

    >

    > For me, FoN update opened new ways to play herald. Mallyx is going in a very good direction - finally manages to fullfil its theme of controlling conditions. Ventari has now a pretty strong spot in Raid groups. Jalis is still strong in WvW providing more Stability. Shiro was our eSpec for toow long, do moving away some powers from it opens up (SLOWLY) different ways for other legends while using Herald.

    > I understand your pain. I loved the initial thought behind Mallyx that was later completely scrapped.

    >

    > For me - Herald is something that evolves with each legend as we all know it isn't really a true eSpec (we got it in the very beginning so it doesn't feel like an additional option, at least for me). Glint has the opportunity to be this interesting mix of everything that Revenant has to offer and enhance it with some support or offensive powers.

    >

    > Don't you think Shield could use some love? I, personally, see it as a versatile tool. Not exactly like Staff or Trident but something that will make you feel good while using it in specific legend. On the end - it's an eSpec(event if it doesn't feel like it), so let the Shield change our playstyle a bit.

More playstyles were opened up, sure, but other playstyles also had the book closed on them. I will admit that Jalis now has a very solid presence in WvW now, at least in zerg play, and can sometimes even do some roaming as well. But usually an elite spec has a single good role. It would also seem Arenanet almost intends for us to use Herald as a healing/boonshare support. If we tie too many good things to Herald, then other especs in the future will not compete. Perhaps we should work on core instead.

If our weapons had elementalist-esque reactions, I wager that Shiro would be one of the only legends that sees use. This game tends to favor evasion and high damage builds instead of damage mitigation and recovery. I can agree on shield needing some love, but it can be a situationally solid choice. As it stands, shield holds one of our 2 block skills. With the changes to Hardening Persistence, it gives the class some much needed condition management outside of Mallyx.

Glint overall lost tons of boon duration. And this is a personal reason, but Enhanced Bulwark was essential to my fractal carry build. Now my personal stab is very, very spotty.

It gives you like 8 stacks of rejuvenation. Add that with life steal from vul, assassins annihilation life steal, and life steal from soulcleave and you've got some insane regen.

It was disabled in the latest patch

  6. There have been many threads regarding Revenant balance. I know the class has a great flavor and theme, and some people would prefer it plays like the other classes. However, there are many people who know how to play the class as it is with a great deal of skill. We used to top the leaderboards in PvP all the time, it was such a ridiculously strong class in the right hands. Some of the tools are still there, actually.

Just keep practicing, learn to manage your energy properly, know which skills do what, and use them when they need to be used. I advise you to check out some videos of WVW roaming or PVP montages, and see how they react to certain situations.

  7. **1.** _Replace Steadfast Rejuvenation with Enhanced Bulwark, the old Herald Grandmaster trait._

    * In case you don't remember, Enhanced Bulwark granted you an extra stack of Stability with a base duration of 5 seconds (1s ICD). This allowed certain builds with Jalis/any to hold in one spot very well. It's more thematically appropriate to Retribution/Jalis traitline, and has good synergy with Unwavering Avoidance as well as Determined Resolution. Being in the Grandmaster line, however, you'd have to make a hard choice between it and Versed in Stone/ Vicious Reprisal. A choice between more damage, group sustain, or personal sustain.

**2.** _Unwavering Avoidance gets Stability and Retaliation for 3s each along with a 10s ICD, Retaliatory Evasion gets canned._

    * It seems a bit odd to have 2 traits kinda do the same thing, so this seems like a natural shift. As for the trait that takes it's place, I propose this:

----'Stout-Hearted' -- Vengeful Hammers do more damage, recover more health, and grant Retaliation (2s) upon activation (10s ICD)----

**3.** _Replace Field of the Mists with Dome of the Mists, and give Drop the Hammer a quicker drop._

    * Not only will this give us greater coverage, but Dome of the Mists gives us more Weakness, as well as avoiding having to fix the Z-axis bugs that Field of the Mists has. It would be a far better tool for dissuading melee attackers as well. Drop the Hammer could perhaps be taken down to 1 1/4 of a second cast time.

**4.** _Malicious Reprisal improves Enchanted Daggers_

    * I'm not sure how, but either by making the daggers unblockable again or by increasing the duration the daggers remain beside you. It's already a fairly good trait though, probably would cut away the bonus damage from special buff stacks to compensate.

**5.** _Change Expose Defenses back to Mutilate Defenses._

    * I find 'after using an elite skill' traits to be quite awkward. Especially with Revenant, seeing as they are hardly things you use, aside from Chaotic Release/Energy Expulsion/Embrace the Darkness (the last 2 not being things you'd typically find on a Devastation build). The traitline seems to focus on building offensive momentum and not giving your opponent any breathing room. If I'm wrong, I could recommend switching Expose Defenses to refresh upon activating a healing skill, which would line up well with how many people play Shiro, and use it to increase the initial burst.

I agree. I envision something along the lines of a Channeling Magic Ritualist perhaps, where they take a while to channel, but drop huge bombs. Channeling Magic also included some pretty good offensive buffs, but I think that Revenant players are more keen on having a really strong DPS e-spec instead.

I do think that Revenant was meant to be able to switch roles, just like Razah, so perhaps we should have something along the lines of a Celestial build instead? Don't know how they'd make it work, but Arenanet has surprised me before.

  9. Yeah, Expose Defenses was baloney. Now you **must** use Sword mainhand for it to work properly, since nobody ever really uses the elite skills on Revenant. I wouldn't mind Mutilate Defenses coming back, or at least making it so Shiro/Devastation don't have the problem of shrinking lifesteal potential.
