  1. This sounds like some sort of a connection issue. Certain values not loading suggests that the client is receiving the information correctly for some reason or another. The endless loading screen reinforces that theory - of course to get to the character selection screen at all confirms there is some sort of connection. Client repair will be the thing to do for sure if your connection is solid. https://help.guildwars2.com/hc/en-us/articles/201863008-Repairing-the-Game-Client

  2. From experience - Lots of crashing may well indicate a file error somewhere in your system. Things you can do:

    1) Remove arcdps and any other addons you have and see if you're still crashing when you next load up the game.

    2) If still crashing then run the repair, if the repair client appears to "freeze" or says "Not responding" just leave it. If it's been like it for half hour then it might genuinely have frozen but this is unlikely to happen. Instructions are here: https://help.guildwars2.com/hc/en-us/articles/201863008-Repairing-the-Game-Client

    3) If the repair client crashes or this doesn't repair the crashing problem then it's time to do a full re-install.

Chances are whatever the problem is that one of these methods will fix it. If not then the problem is more than likely somewhere within your system - check driver updates, close programs running in the background, etc. It's definitely worth posting your crash log in the thread. There's plenty of technically minded people on the forums that might well identify the problem sooner than Anet will get to your ticket in the queue. =)

The vast majority of error 42's are going to be the connection from your computer leading to the server but not the server themselves. Usually if the servers are messing up for real there are a lot more people having problems than one person commenting a connection error in a thread about client crashes. ;)

  3. Ok so sounds like these are becoming an account unlock that is handled differently for each character? eg: On my guard I'll have my flameseeker prophecies with berserker stats but on my chronomancer i'll have it but it will be different stats. So does this mean, in theory, any character that hits level 80 will automatically be able to use a personalised version of an unlocked legendary? Because I have 20 toons slots, I'm going to make more, most of my gold gets spent on gearing new characters. If I could dodge that cost by having legendaries that aren't restricted to one character or needing to be banked and taken out to be used on others... I might actually start giving a crap about legendaries.

Next up - harvesting tool slots to be account based rather than character based? Then I'll actually get some unbreakable harvesting tools too =D

  4. Interesting! The other people who have the disconnect issue at this same point have all got their files downloaded - what we've got is a client freeze/crash.

This is good new data! I'll update my ticket with this theory. I'm guessing if we fully download the game we'd begin running into the disconnect issue rather than the freeze/crash.

I'll report back if I finish downloading. Thanks Reaper!

  5. I don't get a disconnect after the fight with almorra I just get a big old client freeze - it doesn't even crash to desktop I have to force it, have left it for ten mins on one of the attempts.

For you others who are d/cing or client freezing after Almorra fight, have you fully downloaded the game yet or are there still files left to install? Just curious if the fixed file is "yet to be downloaded" or something weird...

  6. Tried again but first I removed arcdps and set the game on best performance graphics settings to be sure and also playing in windowed mode.

Replayed this instance a 3rd time. Defeated almorra. Client almost immediately froze. Mouse cursor is a spinning blue circle. The client says "Not responding". As per image: https://imgur.com/OxtVPpd

The only different result is that because I put it in window mode I can close it without having to sign out of windows or restart my PC.

I know other players are past this bit. Why am I getting stuck here? The patch that was meant to fix an issue on this instance, is it possible that it isn't applied because I haven't fully downloaded the entire game yet or something?

  7. Get to the end - defeat Almorra - The game client then freezes and even though I can hit the windows button to bring up the start menu I can't actually switch to any other program (eg task manager to force close gw2) it just flips back to full screen gw2 and just sits there doing nothing.

I've done this twice now with the same result. I'm not really excited to try again until this crash is resolved. I have no error report since I had to sign out of my windows account just to get access to my pc again.

  8. Woah thanks so much for that info!

SO I've installed this on a D drive that is installed on the computer as the main C drive is only 116GB strong and the D is about 450GB - but I this was ok before i finished downloading the whole game. Perhaps something happened at the latter end of the download process.. I'll run repair in non-comp mode and leave it frozen for the rest of the day to confirm if it's actually freezing or if I'm just impatient. I most certainly am impatient.... but yes. Thank you =)

Edit: I checked the log and a few crashes had that error. The repair crashed again with it too. Sooo I guess I gotta reinstall. Oh well, here goes!

Update: I've re-installed to "Playable" and have been running just fine for the last hour using the same install directory. Will update again once the whole thing is completed.

Update 19th March: Fully downloaded and everything is working just fine. =)

  9. Crash log of the -repair client. I'm going to bed. I guess I will try a reinstall next but I'm hoping there's some other solution?

  10. Hi all, PS Mods please move to tech support forum - I misclicked and didn't notice till I'd saved.

So I just got myself a new PC and I've been playing GW2 without problems for a few days. But today I left the client to finish downloading and when I came back the game will crash. Usually it happens instantly after a map finishes loading, but sometimes it will let me play for a few minutes before it crashes. I have removed the d3d9.dll for arcdps but it's still happening. Doesn't seem to matter if I run it in windowed mode or not. The problem replication as follows with crash log below:

    1) Finished downloading files after having played with no problem.

    2) Loaded up my new weaver, played for about 2 minutes > Crash to desktop.

    3) Removed arcdps d3d9.dll from bin64 install directory > Login > select Weaver > Crash to desktop when map finished loading.

    4) Logged in on DH, loaded fine and worked for 2 mins > Crashed to desktop.

    5) Created Gw2 shortcut with target line -repair and ran the repair

    6) Repair program "Not responding" so I changed it to compatibility mode for windows 7 > it started fine and didn't freeze.

    7) Repair got stuck at around 75% so I closed it and open the client > It downloaded around 8000 files.

    8) Started up client > hit "Play" and then the screen went black except for a message about not being able to play at the current resolution (even though it was playing fine before).

    9) Changed -repair shortcut to -windowed shortcut > loaded up fine > played for about 2 minutes > Crashed to desktop (Edit: Actually maybe I switched to windowed fullscreen mode before it crashed)

    10) Tried a few different settings changed on nvidia/geforce control panel but nothing has fixed this

    11) Uninstalled Geforce experience > No change

    12) Deleted GW2 cache in appdata > No change on first startup attempt

    12) 7:53PM (UK time) I appear to be playing okay in windowed mode now. (1 hour after first posting, 5 hours since problem began)

    13) For science and convenience I switched to windowed fullscreen mode and haven't crashed yet... I will update if anything happens or tomorrow if nothing happens.

    14) 8:20PM Client disappeared while I was roller beetling across Brisban, I did notice some minor textures looking off-colour on the ground before this happened. No crash log, error report, anything. Just gone. Restarting and sticking with Windowed mode.

    15) 8:35PM Client disappeared again without changing from windowed mode. Will full restart, run repair again and leave it alone even if it gets stuck again...

    16) I ran repair which crashed at about 50%.

    17) Deleted local.dat after a few unsuccessful attempts at loading up a character and was able to login for a few minutes before a crash.

    18) 9:17PM Attempting repair again.

Maybe something to play around with. Core guardian build with some decent support and potentially not terrible damage. It's got a hell of a lot of condi removal for the party and should have just under 100% crit chance with retal and fury which it should be able to provide a fair amount of. I used to play something like this before I became a sucker for berserker. I'm not even elitist or anything I just like the challenge of squish and the buzz from stuff melting. I may play around with something like this myself. I thought about using torch instead of focus and I only put sigil of fire there for idk. Maybe scepter would be better than mace I guess I just like the idea of mace being used ever since it's quite a cool weapon even if quite niche functionally. I can't imagine this being particularly great damage wise to be honest but the utility is strong and the condi damage is fairly well used as per virtue of justice and it refreshing on kill. GL with your mission.

  12. Hello fellow lovely Guild Warsers!

So I'm going to get a PC specifically so I can play GW2 again. I don't care about best specs in the world or anything. All I am aiming for is to play GW2 with decent graphics settings on and I don't mind that things will get choppy in a zerg - I'm used to that and as I understand it from others, even the best machines struggle there.

So I want to ask people opinions on what kind of a machine and parts I can get that would play GW2 well enough that I'll be able to keep 30 FPS most of the time and on decent graphics settings? I'm thinking to get something secondhand with just like 4-8 GB of RAM and maybe a 'not-great' graphics card that I can replace with a 'will do the job' graphics card.

Also I was reading that GW2 was designed for single core cpu (or something) and that part of its struggle is because it's using more than one core on modern computers. I didn't really understand what this meant and couldn't find a better explanation. Could someone explain this to me if they know? And are there any settings changes I can make to help with this?

    Thanks!

PS: I am confident with software stuff I'm just fairly clueless about hardware stuff. When it comes to settings and things you don't have to dumb it down for me but you might have to when it comes to machinary things

  13. Ok so I'm not going to record my DH rotation in order to understand Power SB. Doesn't make sense. Suffice it to say I wasn't the only one in the party who's mind was blown by what was happening - we're all experienced players and given every bit of information we have and have practiced since seeing this guy: this was unusual.

The last thing I am thinking is maybe he was opening up with one wolf pack, worldy impact, whirling defense and starting their rotation that way which I'm going to try myself. Been playing with my power SB since this experience and have been getting better results the more I practice but still not catching up with DH burst.

  14. So I main a DH and as burst damage goes it's very rare that I'm pugging anything and someone else has faster burst than I do. It does happen but rarely is there much of a margin. There are plenty of classes that catch up and overtake in longer fights.

But just running CoE now with a friend and we pulled in some pugs. The last person to join was playing power Soulbeast and as far as burst DPS goes - this person was bursting faster than me and by quite a wide margin! It didn't seem to matter if I did a perfect rotation.

I asked them for their build and they just said it was "the normal sc build". One of my main alt's is a power soulbeast and runs that build. But I can't figure out what on earth I'm doing wrong because sure I can get it doing pretty good DPS but never have I beaten a DH's burst before.

Does anyone have some insight? I'm really mesmerised by this. And I want my SB to burn things as fast as that dudes. <3

Edit: I'm not running exactly the snowcrows power soulbeast build - I have runes of the scholar instead of the thief...

  15. Is there some hidden setting to hide "nearly completed" achievements if they are for PvP?

I want to be able to track nearly completed achievements but I am a PvE player and because of a little dabbling in PvP over the years to work out if I definitely hate it, several times, (I do in fact consistently hate it however hard I tried) I was left with "Slayer" nearly completed at 1009/1100 kills.

So today I thought I'd shift it. Went to PvP and spent some hours painstakingly killing other players until I got to 1100. I got to 1101 in the match and "Slayer" is STILL the top achievement in "Nearly Completed" because it's considered being at 92% and to make matters worse the second achievement there is now PvP related too. So I'm potentially stuck with this unless I go again into PvP which I didn't even want to do this time.

If there is no option to hide these things, does anyone know of an app or something that I can use API code to track nearly completed achievements?

    Thanks

I think discovery might be bugged as of yesterdays patch? Someone in map chat was saying when they tried to craft this that the bar would fill but no mats were used and no product received. I switched to my chef (lv400) to discover the recipe and craft one myself and only the slabs of meat are showing in the discovery tab - I have all the other ingredients in my inventory.

    >I love everything about this episode! Everything! And I'm excited to get Skyscale, eventually, in a few hundred years. I honestly didn't mind the timegate, but now there's a timegate within the time gate and who knows how many more timegates are within the timegate and if those timegates have timegates. I fear for a timegated, timegated, timegate. And really I was all in favour of it until I found out about the new timegate in the timegate. This is I guess only personal to me because I'm flying away for work in a week or two, don't know when I'll be able to play gw2 and would have loved to have played with the skyscale before I go. This does mean I've got something to work on whenever it is I next get to play again - and this is the only game I play, I'm pretty much devoted to guild wars! I get that people who play a lot complain about not having much to do but this really hurts players who can't play a lot. Timegated timegate for a highly desired feature is harsh. Give us a few difficult instances or something, or reasons to spend time re-completing older maps, it's nice to be revisiting older maps but it doesn't seem to affect the maps so far except for us passing through them! But maybe there's some of these things to come in the rest of the collection - we won't know for days. Anyway I hate complaining and I love this game and I love everything else but damn this is rough!

    >So I just needed to get this rant out and then I'll go back to doing the collection and probably won't complain again except to relate with people in game who are frustrated in this way. thanks for all the work that was put into this too - even if I don't entirely agree with the means to the ends.~~

Edit: I changed my mind. Ok so I still think it's harsh on people who can't play that much because it is a seriously time consuming collection/timegate buuuuuuuut it's a very cool feature that's not actually required for anything and in theory should never be a requirement for more than achievement points. But it gives hardcore players something to work on, it gets people logging in and aiding on the login/profit/etc side of things. My annoyance was largely completely personal because I WANT IT NOW WAH WAH WAH! So actually I take it back for the most part except for the bit about players who can't play that much. Thank you Anet. <3
