  1. Human and Sylvari are my top choices. I lean towards human for general visual and appeal. But I lean Sylvari because their story sounds more interesting. Third is Charr. I think I just like the idea of the Charr, more than actually playing one (?). I adore their slightly grumpy/sarcastic personalities, I even got a Charr plushie (so fuzzy). Maybe it's because they are so unlike any other race I've ever seen.

  2. I recently returned and finished leveling a character (human core-necro) up to 80(cap?). Mostly through map completion, farming, events. To familiarize myself with the game play.

Now I'm looking to create a new character to main (and really get into the story), but I'm at an impass on what.

Profession I am looking at either Elemental or Necromancer (basically clothie wizard type wielding Staff)

I'm really stuck on race. I have plenty of character slots available and have been creating different race/profession combos trying them out.

I'm rather vain and looking pretty is important so I lean toward Human (for Fashion Wars!). But I worry the story might be a bit bland and so many humans running around (who doesn't like feeling unique/special?!).

So I think a different race might offer a more interesting story. I like the Charr surely personality (but something just feels off to me, they never seem to stick with me). Norn is a no (I just see big human, with less appealing customization). Asura have great animations a fun looking, but the armor just doesn't look as appealing on them. And Sylvari. Very interesting lore, interesting looking. Not really a fan of the architectural style. They can wear armor well though at times it can feel like it clashes (out of place) with being a walking vegetable.

Sorry for rambling, but if you're still with me; to sum up. Looking for advice on Race/Profession and story.

    Profession: Elemental=Necromancer>mesmer

Race: Human>=Sylvari, then Asura/Charr, no Norn.

  3. Hm..yeah. I liked the idea of having a pet for utility/distraction help (but mostly having a raven follow me around it cool). The mes does offer a great variety of armor transmog options. Also, the clone/phantasm offers a more glamore type of magic of the fae in old fairy tales.

  4. Hello, new-ish to the game. I played a few months after vanilla launch, then quit PC gaming for an extended period. Returned about a month ago. I've narrowed my choices down to three.

Guardian (soldier), Ranger (adventurer), Mesmer (scholar).

What my playstyle is mostly about roaming open world, "farming", doing open world events, with eventually perhaps doing some dungeons (fractals? w/e they are called). Not really into PvP, and most of my play time is solo (except for when events spawn and people show up). I will probably join a guild at some point, but for now I am just trying to get my feet under me and choosing one profession as a main. Oh and will also be doing item crafting as part of end game activities (but really not relevant to the choice I guess...)

I am looking for a character that I can mold into the "wizard" style (think classic, like Gandalf/Merlin...not new style like Jaina Proudmore/ D&D [the standoff fireball throwers]). My primary weapon choice will probably be sword/torch. Not really concerned about armor as I will be using the transmogrification and/or outfits to achieve a desired appearance. And a secondary weapon of either Staff or Longbow, probably staff (a walking stick is always helpful for long journeys). Oh, I'm also not a min/maxer, as long as I can make it work so I'm not getting slaughtered.

    Advice is appreciated.
