  1. Yeah, in PvE, which is all I play, not so much. It seems especially with the CC/Stability/stunbreak nonsense they have simply made gameplay worse. I don't see how you get around this; it's a straight-up nerf that affects the game by making it less fun to play. Generally, this is something you simply don't do as you evolve a game. The game should always be improving and becoming more fun to play.

I've heard some say don't worry this is simply a stepwise process. Let me offer an alternative. 1) Decide where you want to go; 2) Take steps in that direction, improving the game incrementally. I know it sounds simple and, in fact, it is.

  2. In all games I play I always set camera to "use free camera" or whatever is the equivalent. It is disconcerting to have my view snapped back and forth when I rotate my camera. This doesn't work on mounts in GW2. It does work on mounts in other games I play. I would like mounts to work exactly like everything else with respect to free camera.

  3. Agree with most of the comments and with the point of the OP. I really enjoy using a hammer on occasion on my guardian and warrior. But, it's not because of its effectiveness, it's simply for its great animations. It feels really powerful, but it's not. I think that's why it's being referred to as cosmetic. There is no reason that hammer shouldn't take its place as a truly useful weapon.

  4. I think the principle is fairly straightforward, and as has been said does not pertain to first amendment rights. In any community oriented to a particular end (here GW2), conversation that is off-topic is always inappropriate. In-game discussion and postings here should pertain to the game. I've seen everything in game chat from politics and religion to people wishing to process psychological issues and the desire to commit suicide. While it may be important that these issues be discussed somewhere, in game or on gaming forums is not the place.

I have a bit of a different take on change. First, change is inevitable. It happens. Change itself, change as a thing in itself, is neither good nor bad. However, change produces results that are usually either good or bad. Good change is good. Bad change is bad. Generally, change for the sake of change is bad.

  6. I have long been an advocate of the removal of leveling from the MMO experience. Why? I'm convinced that all aspects of vertical progression, i.e., power being in a positive relationship to time, add nothing positive in the sense of character progression. They call it a treadmill for a reason; you get on and off at the same place in terms of relative power to other players and the environment. The numbers in terms of npc power and player power periodically increase and players need to scramble and grind to replace their hard-won gear. It's just not my idea of fun any more. So, I'm all about horizontal progression which I find to be a satisfying experience all around. Mastery points can be a very good solution to the need for character progression.

And, why do we need the leveling experience? Because it's always been that way? What would we have in it's place? My idea was always an introduction to the game like an extended tutorial (but in terms of a story) where you gain a knowledge of the game, lore, place, gear, and abilities. Then with appropriate celebration you are launched into your adventuring proper in the game.

That all said, I do NOT propose that GW2 adopt this. I would love to see my ideas implemented in a game some day but I don't believe it would work, or that there is any reason to change GW2 at this point. It's better left to a glorious future. I would like to see Anet continue to refine our horizontal progression systems.
