Yeah, that's why every country on Earth is still a monarchy under the original bloodline of rulers.

    Oh wait.

Things change, she just led the Legion through a civil war, this isn't that weird. Some Charr are surely grumbling about it, others aren't. The traditionalists were disproportionately already marching under Bangar anyway, so they're going to get less of a say now.

    > Maybe for the last two. But this trailer teases the upcoming episode and "future features." The future bit just shows parts of Thunderhead Peaks. So we may just wind up with 4 episodes of invasions on core maps and a few weapon models.

Maybe the "future features" bit is going to release in between Chapters 1 and 2? They said the Chapters will become more fleshed out with new stuff in-between main releases.

  3. I think cold resistance, slow and tanky are good but not enough to make the mount *fun*.

If it could also be a multiperson mount...

Maybe we could have one person controlling the dolyak, and then several other players can pile on, but they get some ranged attacks they can use (it would be fantastic if the players' own ranged skills still worked).

And maybe we get a map meta through a bitter cold area where everyone needs to get on a dolyak to cross the frozen mountains, fighting off hordes of enemies while mounted, with some players navigating the dolyak through the rugged pass and the rest trying to dps/cc the mobs while mounted, trying to protect the dolyak. So for like fifty players there are like one to two dozen dolyaks trying to make it through the pass.

It would be a pretty map-specific mount, but we have plenty of map-specific masteries and this at least sounds like a fun take on that to me.

They said 2021 in the stream but no specific season. I would guess late 2021 since it seems we're about halfway through the Icebrood Saga, which started almost a year ago.

  5. I would love this. Especially now that we have those trees as decorations, they just don't really fit with any of the current guild halls. I'm worried they'll move on to Cantha and we'll never get any Northern themed hall.

    >

    > With Dry Top, The Silverwastes, Dragon's Stand, Dragonfall and Drizzlewood Coast, we already have **five** map-wide metas stretching over hours.

I don't feel like any of those take 2+ hours like Drizzlewood Coast. Dry Top for sure only takes one, it's on a timer. And I just did Dragonfall the other day in about an hour, I think. Been awhile since I did The Silverwastes or Dragon's Stand, though, but I feel like they are both under two hours easy.

I didn't mean there are no other long map metas, but Drizzlewood is, I think, uniquely long. My point was just that I doubt that's about to become the new normal anytime soon, so I don't mind one particularly long meta.

  7. Honestly, I love it, it feels the right length to me. It's been quite a while since we had a continuous push Dragon Stand style map. Most maps don't need much time commitment, so it's fine if a handful of them do.

It's important for Anet to have variety in the maps. The super long push feels pretty epic and I'll crave it every once in awhile. I think people are just getting burnt out quick now because they feel sort of obligated to farm the new release, and it's not really a "farm over and over again" map.

And just like any map meta, there's no particular reason you can't join in partway through, or drop out after getting the rewards for the first half.

  8. I like the idea of the fight, but from what I've seen the zergs just stay right on the foot and then they don't even have to worry about the ice blast/rock mechanics. Anet seems to have this problem a lot where they design the encounter around some neat mechanics, but the players find a rather obvious spot to huddle and avoid them, and then the players all complain that the fight is boring.

    > Agree except for smodur. I dont think he did anything wrong last chapter, his actions were fitting for a charr, and the choices I would have made, if given the option. Humanizing all the charrs was a horrible choice.

    >

    > However those actions were unfitting for smodur himself. Anet ruined him with story bias meant to make him into the impuslive baddie, and retconned his whole character who was suppost to be level headed and diplomatic. At least they cant make it worse anymore.

Honestly I think Smodur's character makes perfect sense. He's a "visionary" as far as Charr go, but he's still one of the older Imperators, and has that more old-school way of actually operating in war. He may be level-headed when it comes to diplomacy, but when the shit hits the fan, he is the imperator of the "big-guns-go-boom" legion.

I like the way they handled Smodur, both in this episode and the last. I am slightly disappointed in the direction Ryland has taken. It seems like he should be smarter than this. He's just been transformed into a cartoon-villain dragon minion. Bangar I could get, because Bangar is smart in some ways but dumb in others, and he would absolutely let his ego ruin him in pursuit of being Khan-Ur and, in his mind, "saving" the Charr and securing their future. But I don't... really see what Ryland gets out of this? He's never had much of an ideology, so becoming Jomag's champion doesn't seem to serve a higher purpose for him as far as I can tell.

    >

    > Sadly they abandoned the branching paths of classic guild wars 2

I've got to say though, of all the fake-outs they've done on branching choices, that was the most effective one yet. They used it well.

  11. Drizzlewood is super fun, but I find it has several mechanics that we don't have much reason to use.

Repairing is potentially the biggest war supply sink, but there isn't enough incentive to do it, so we're left with awkwardly on fire camps that no one seems interested in fixing.

Siege already felt pretty lackluster (low damage and you get knocked off of it constantly), and they nerfed it even more shortly after release for some reason. It's just easier to break enemy influence by killing the easy mobs rather than doing anything interesting.

I both love and hate that people still haven't figured out how to target Vishen. On the one hand the community usually trivializes mechanics quickly after release, so it's nice to see one still causing trouble. On the other hand, I often play on low pop maps, and it's somewhat frustrating how many instances capture the lighthouse and then fail over and over again to take Leadfoot. I can only stay on an instance like that for so long before it gets boring.

All in all, I'm taking a break just because I was playing a *lot* for a few months precisely because I am enjoying the new season and it was naturally time for that to ebb. I'm not actually disappointed in it, I will get the itch again soon. I like Drizzlewood quite a lot, but these are just my nitpicks that, if fixed, would get me excited about coming back to it.

  12. I like it. As a newer player (started just after PoF released) I got to play everything pretty much all the way through for the first time before finally catching up just in time for Icebrood Saga.

And from my perspective, Icebrood Saga is the best the game's ever been. Lots of rewards to go for, best story so far, much better maps overall than the other Seasons. This is the first time since I reached HoT that I've picked maps to hang out and play in for no reason at all, just because I enjoy being in them.

Masteries are a bit lackluster this season compared to others, but that's my only complaint, and it's not a huge deal.

I would be WAY more high maintenance than Kormir if my eyes got gnawed out by a demon.

To be completely honest it's been awhile but I really don't remember Kormir being annoying at all.

The same armor/outfit on a male vs female character is so different — a fully clothed armor on a male character is a revealing battle bikini on a female character.

    > I know some people like these designs (they do look good individually if you're into that), and that's fine, there's just a lack of options. I don't mean to insult anyone's beloved characters. You do you — I even have a female Norn, myself.

    100% agree.

I'm a guy and I play an even mix of genders because I just like to think of them as characters with some backstory that I make up, rather than avatars for myself. And I completely agree about the armors, *especially* light armor. I find myself wondering why so many of the female armors are so *ridiculously* male gaze-y. Even the heavy armors have weird random "windows".

My wife watches me play sometimes, and she was interested in the game so I made her a free account to try it out. But then she went to make an elementalist, and hell I forgot how weird the starting light armor is for female characters. She was so annoyed, her reaction was pretty much "I'm a sylvari still in the Dream and I have to wear a freaking _garter_? Really?" I agreed and offered that we'd find her some better armor first thing but even though she halfheartedly continued for awhile, she was kind of done. Said she didn't want to have to *earn* pants. I don't blame her at all. Anet lost a new player there.

While I understand that some people love the current options and I don't want to take them away, they should do better about providing more, especially for the starter and early game armor sets when people are leveling and are just stuck with things for awhile. Some of the armor skins labeled "pants" are not anything anyone would mistake for "pants".

And there's definitely some sexism in the available character models, too. You can make male Norn of various ages with just totally gnarly, scarred, weatherbeaten faces, look like they've been through hell. There is, I think, exactly one female Norn face with any kind of scar, and zero older faces with any visible wrinkles at all. Not to mention male Norn have totally different proportions from male humans, but for some reason female Norn are just tall.

    > > > I know some people gonna say “I don’t care about a fancy CG trailer, give more better game content” yes we always need good game content, but I think it will worth the time and money put into it for a great advertising, even if it’s a very short and sweet cinematics. And we can be more proudly showing the game to friends and on social media.

    > That's not how Video game industry works, how many Wow player refund the game cos the in-game model looks different from their trailer movie? how many LOL players quit the game cos the model doesn't looks nearly as good as the splash art?

    >

    > A good trailer or splash art provide a great fantasy for players see their loved content go live, it's not about giving false expectation.

I doubt many people buy the game based on the trailer and then demand a refund.

But I've been disappointed many times by "cinematic" trailers that look nothing like the game. I pretty much hit pause and then close the window as soon as I realize what it is. What's the point? I don't mind a few unplayable camera angles to show things off better, but I much prefer the trailers to be in-engine. Otherwise they have basically nothing to do with the actual game.

That being said, I love Anet's incorporation of concept art style illustration into the game and it's something they're known for. The art--to-game transition trailer they did before GW2 released is still well-remembered. I *still* get kind of pumped by how cool that trailer was, but the Rytlock CGI trailer for Heart of Thorns? Meh. Just doesn't do it for me.

The Icebrood Saga trailer is also actually very good, and that style would work for an expansion if it was followed by some gameplay like the original GW2 teaser.

I'd rather have an "art" trailer or an in-engine trailer. Both would be great.

  16. Skyscale is definitely super versatile, but I don't really understand why some people say they never use the Griffon anymore because the Skyscale makes it obsolete. The Skyscale is still *far* slower than the Griffon if you're traveling horizontally and you have a bit of height to start off with.

I use the Skyscale to get height or to do lots of diagonal climbing over rough terrain, but once I have some height and I need to go somewhere else I always use the Griffon to zoom from place to place.

  17. I hope they're planning to explain more about how exactly the Frost Legion became a thing.

We just killed the source of the Whispers, and last we heard from Bangar he didn't seem very interested in working with the Sons of Svanir. How exactly is he tapping in to Jormag in order to corrupt the army? How is his army coordinating with the other Icebrood? Is Bangar figuring this out on his own or is there another source of whispers now, or is Bangar so close to Jormag's lair that they don't need a champion to whisper to him anymore?

  18. Rebuilding defenses triggers the camp assaults sooner, so is it correct to say that a map where people are spending supply to rebuild goes through more cycles per day and hence everyone participating in the assaults on that map gets more rewards per hour? Compared to a map where no one rebuilds the camps, I mean.

It's very easy to spend all of your war supply if you do a lot of repairing.
