You really do need to follow the story so you can unlock the masteries.

 

There is a cave at the far SW of Silverwastes past the yellow fort though

I thought I had seen everywhere in the SW but never found any sort of way in. I have 4 level 80 characters that all have access but for the life of me I can't remember how they got there. It was around the time HOT first came out and I used the boost to 80 tickets. It was a long time ago.

its just west of the amber fort a small doorway opening in the rock wall

In the Southwestern Silverwastes, west of Amber Sandfall, south of the bottom vine canyon, is a small cave. Enter it. Continue through it.

See the vista in South Western Silverwastes? It's just opposite in the cliff wall

How did I miss that. I have fought at that fort a million times. I spent all yesterday trying to find a way in. I should have just asked here.
