"###### is your LIKE verification code" text message

Recommended Posts

a) What is a "LIKE" verification code? This sounds more as if it is coming from Facebook than from Arenanet, does it say "LINKED" verification code?

b) I would not change my passwort. Obviously the person does not know it, so I personally would not see a reason to change. Is it possible that your email ended up on one of those numerous huge lists of email/password combinations that circulate in the dark corners of the internet? Those can originate from **real** hacks of various sites that happend years ago. I would recommend checking [this legit site](https://haveibeenpwned.com/ "this legit site") and see if the email you use for GW2 is on the list. [(If you wish, check this wikipedia entry about the site before entering your email there)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Have_I_Been_Pwned "(If you wish, check this wikipedia entry about the site before entering your email there)")

For example the big communityforum "Aionsource.com" was hacked more than 7 years ago. I use different email adresses for alomost every single account I make, in the form of "nameofthesite@", and even now 7 years later I still sometimes get phishing mails sent to aionsource@ which are partly quite amusing and for games I never even played like WoW.

The person received a text message, not an email, with the verification code to log into their account. Yes, the OP really should change their password ASAP, and then maybe think about changing the email. Someone had both, and because of the phone, they actually couldn't get into the account. They tried twice even.

Oh I see, missed that post #3. Also, in my country we refer to "text messages" on the phone exclusively as "SMS", nobody here would call it anything else so i failed to even consider it having been sent to his phone, sorry.

(PS: A mail actually is a "text message" so the seemingly common term for SMS in the US seems quite misleading and totally not logical to me) :)
