Hybrid builds

With the recent changes to conditions are hybrid power/condi builds more viable? With more time before having to reapply conditions would it be effective to weave some power attacks into the rotations? Obviously this will vary depending on class but has anyone tested some hybrid builds out since the condi patch?

The way damage is calculated in this game, you gain a higher benefit by stacking as much towards 1 damage type. The other factor is, most weapons are either or (either condi damage or power). Going hybrid usually doesn't offer any significant advantage. The only time people pick hybrid stats is if they can't stack up on more of their primary damage type stats (both availability wise or overcaping due to condition duration cap of 100%).

That's not how conditions work. If you reapply a new set of conditions you do not overwrite the old ones. You put a new set of conditions on top of the old and both will then tick for damage. The longer duration with less stacks upfront only means it now takes longer to get the maximum amount of stacks up to reach maximum dps.

 

**Theoretical example A (old way):**

- skill A applies 3 burning stacks for 5 seconds with a cooldown of 5 seconds

 

Result:

0 seconds = 3 stacks of burning

5 seconds = 3 stacks of burning

10 seconds = 3 stacks of burning

15 seconds = 3 stacks of burning

 

**Theoretical example B (after duration change):**

- skill B applies 1 stack of burning for 15 seconds with a cooldown of 5 seconds

 

Result:

0 seconds = 1 stack of buring

5 seconds = 2 stacks of burning

10 seconds = 3 stacks of burning (1 stack at 5 seconds, 1 stack at 10 seconds, 1 stack at 15 seconds)

15 seconds = 3 stacks of burning

 

In both scenarios your peak damage is 3 burning stacks only that in scenario B it now takes longer to reach your peak damage performance.
