Anyone else think that character models, or at least some info about the model that can be used to render a likeness (har style, face shape, colours used etc), should be part of the API external sites can hook into? So, this has actually come up before, and it turns out that the rendering code is very, very tied to the rest of the GW2 *client*. Since the API would need to run on the server-side, that'd mean hacking up the client code to get only the rendering parts out, and wiring them up to work either on a different platform, or firing up new Windows servers to support them. So, while it may seem like an easy idea, it is actually painfully complicated, and consequently, definitely not a high priority for a fairly small API team.
