Gearing help!

Recommended Posts

I come from playing wow and I've been playing gw2 a lot and have reached max level, not sure how to get better gear to do more damage. Another thing I was wondering is, is there any cool armor I can get that isn't from the gem shop? Like from dungeons or raids? If anyone could give me some info or help me out in anyway it would help me out a lot!!

This is a loaded question ! Lots to talk about ! There are plenty of non gem store armor skins that are really great, the two areas of the game you brought up both have various armor and weapon skims to unlock ! A good place to start getting "end game" gear is fractals of the mist, a collection of tier based mini dungeons. Ascended gear and legendary gear have the same stats, the only difference is legendary gear allows you to stat swap ( and rune swap on armor) and ofc great cosmetics effects. The guild wars 2 wiki has all the armor skins and pieces in the game so it's a good place to view armor sets and see what you like best . Another good tool for purely comestic reasons is gw2style. It's a website were people can upload images of what they have come up with for armor sets and sye combinations and is a great place to gather some inspiration! And last thing I have to add is qtfy.eu... that's probably the best one stop source for all the best builds for maximizing your classes dps. I hope this helped!!!!

Just to fill out the blanks.

First of all - gear =/= higher damage in this game (not like in wow anyway). You can get the 2nd highest tier gear by doing dungeons, buying it from Karma vendors in Orr or for Badges of Honor in WvW. That gear will allow you to do all content, unless you start doing Fractals of the Mists.

You should focus on buying ascended trinkets (rings, amulet, accessories) from the laurel vendors or if you start doing fractals for Pristine fractal relics (you get drops as well).

There's a ton of nice armor skins from the Cultural armor vendors, it's some of the nicest armor in this game imo.

The main goal in GW2 will always be to learn your class as you can easily outdps someone in full ascended even in yellows by actually knowing how to play your class. So focus on that. Plus if you start doing dungeons and fractals and raids the first thing to learn is not to die :) because - dead dps = 0 dps :) (does not mean you need to wear super tanky stats. Just learn to dodge etc.

First thing I did when I reached max level was buy ascended rings/amulet/accessories, they are easily accesible since you buy them for Laurels which you earn just by loging in every day.

The next step I took was buy a full set of exotic gears (covering the blanks from the gear you get from lvling up), shouldn't cost more than 15g from TP to buy a full set, just make sure it's lvl80.

Then I started Living Story and aimed for an ascended back piece, there are several choices in all Living Story maps, they just take a bit of time to make.

Once I had full exotics and my acscended accessories I started doing Fractals of the mist, the first 19 Levels have no Agony Resistance requirements, great place to farm for better equipment (ascended accessory drops are very common).

P.S.

You don't need to follow any of those steps, it's just what I personally did, the game gives you the freedom to do whatever you like in whatever order you like without holding your hand, pick your own path - more fun that way.

Hey there @"flashofdeath.8921" !

There are two websites I suggest you take a look at that cover builds, armor stats and pretty much everything that will get you Raid ready. It will help you with knowing what stats you should be aiming for in order to maximize your damage or supportive role.

1 - https://qtfy.eu/guildwars/builds/

2- http://metabattle.com/wiki/MetaBattle_Wiki

Exotic and Ascended tier quality (Orange colored names and Pink colored names) is what you will be aiming for. Ascended is your end goal. Priority on the various trinkets first , then weapons , then armor. There are various Youtube videos you can check out that will tell you how to acquire all that without having to craft every single piece. Most items can come from Living Story maps , Fractals and raids.

If you want to play Fashion Wars 2 , I suggest you go to any Bank NPC in the game and check the second tab on the left he has to offer. That tab will lead you to the wardrobe where you can preview most of the armor pieces/weapons/outfits in the game. After you've decided what you would like to wear, just /wiki *insert name of the item* and I'm sure you'll find ways of acquiring on the official wiki !

Good luck and feel free to message me for more details if you want !

  • 4 weeks later...

For the record: if you are running a power and crit based build its easier, but more expensive to gear up. As berserker stats (Power, precision /ferocity.) were released in the vanilla game, and thus are easily crafted... But because berserker is super desirable... The parts are expensive, unless you farm them yourself.

If you are running a condition based build, it can be cheaper to gear initially because Rabid (Condition Damage, precision/toughness) and Carrion (Condition Damage, power/vitality) stats were vanilla, and undesirable because HoT and PoF released better stats. But they are usually good enough for most content outside of raids. If you want to be most effective as a condition build, you'll need Viper (Power/Condition Damage, precision/expertise).

Viper is, however expensive, requires HoT, and needs special attention to get the trinkets.

Many people will mention that Sinister (Condition Damage, power/precision) is nearly as good as Vipers... But it isn't unless you're running a build relying on one condition and can max its duration out with runes/sigils/traits.

For condition builds expertise is a big deal.

To that end, remember that Giver's weapons exist. They have crap damage. But great expertise. (Expertise, precision/vitilaty).

I'm going to drop 3 wiki links because those will help a lot with figuring out what and where stuff can be aquired.

First off: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Equipment_acquisition_by_stats

That's a total overview of where you can get stuff be it dungeons, crafting, Living World Season maps, etc.

Second: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Attribute_combinations

Those are the attribute combinations ingame at the moment. Helps to have a general overview or if you read about some gear in forums and want to check what stats are on it.

Finally: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Ascended_equipment

That's the final tier in GW2 (after exotic) and can be quite pricy to get (all these items are account bound though, so they can be traded between your characters). Depending on which slot they can be quite expensive (armor/weapons) or just a small farm away (trinkets).

That said, here a small recommendation about where some ascended items can be aquired:

Trinkets

- rings are cheapest to aquire by doing fractals and spending pristine fractal relics on them

- all trinkets can be aquired from farming the Living World Season 3 maps which I would call my recommended method

- trinkets can be aquired via laurels, I would advise against this though unless you have no access to Living World Season 3 (and even then I'd probably suggest rather spend the gold on gems and unlock LWS3 instead of purchasing stuff from the laurel vendor)

Weapons

- there is a questline after finishing the HoT story which grants easy/cheap access to 1 of 5 ascended weapons

- completing the elite specialisation collections (both HoT and PoF) grants access to a predefined ascended weapon (depending on your elites weapon)

Armor

- the Bioluminescent collection grants 1 free ascended armor piece (I'd recommend picking a chestpiece since those are the most expensive to craft and have the most stats). This aschievement, while a bit long, will require a lot of farming of Silverwastes which in turn will provide you with a big chunck of gold for other ascended pieces

In general your first goal should be: ascended trinkets, exotic armor, exotic weapons (eventually ascended). Then work on getting the armor done, or not. Armor is a very minor increase in performance and is only really required for Tier 4 Fractals due to agony resistance.
