vila.3175
I was wondering if it is allowed to play the game on Linux using a compatibility layer like WINE/Steam Play("Proton")?

Sure, as long as you recognize that it's up to deal with any tech issues that occur as a result. (There's a thread on the forums with some specific advice on playing over WINE.) jbrother.1340
See this thread about Linux and GW2 a few of us only play this game and use Linux for all PC needs. There is a lot of good info in this thread and it can help if you are having performance issues: https://en-forum.guildwars2.com/discussion/31192/playing-guild-wars-2-on-linux-performance-optimizations-and-more/p1

So it is pretty safe to assume that they are ok with it.

So it is pretty safe to assume that they are ok with it. The wiki is written and generally managed by players, not ArenaNet.
VAHNeunzehnsechundsiebzig.
well, once upon a time there was a discussion about the forewardrender option. A dev said he did not even see the reason for using that option. I wrote that it helps some people using wine with performance issues. He acknoledged that this is a valid reason. So.. yeah. They know we are doing it. And they never tried to stop us. Unlike people using dpsmeters and gearcheck, wine is not used to grief, troll or look down on others...
