Dristig.9678
It seems like it is bugged or poorly designed. When I have three shades the damage from F2 is dramatically higher than when I have Sand Savant. Did they forget to count it as three shade$ for damage? Zefiris.8297
It's not supposed to triple your damage. They didn't forget - that's how Sand Savant works.
Dristig.9678
How could that be intentional? Why would you take a skill that directly reduces your damage?

It increases your target cap from 3/shade/you to 5/shade/you. It also increases radius and gives maximum bonus for the minor traits.
Kumouta.4985
It's because normal shades are bugged. Savant is for support and easier area coverage, which is why it's still taken by some peeps (especially in pvp/wvw where the area coverage counts)
OJ Chicken.1279
Like other people have stated it's to increase the area covered by one sand. Not every trait needs to increase damage. And this trait does not "reduce" damage. The devs have stated at some point before this, they only intended one shade at one time. You putting out 2-3 shades at one time to increase your damage is considered by some/many to be a bug. The trait was designed to increase the area covered by a shade for barrier. Like in pvp for point denial or WvW or even pve when group needs to be spread out and you still got to support all of them. We have a grandmaster trait option that already increases damage, and it is Demonic Lore.
Lahmia.2193
Sand Savant is great for Wall bombing too. That 300 range can normally hit arrow carts and the like unless they are the jammy stair placed ones.
