(Even though we had run a verify and a repair on my .dat file and it appeared to be exactly the same as xyle's.) Unfortunately, I didn't play much again until last night after the patch. My weird lag spikes appear to be gone now, though. Either the patch, or the copied .dat file.

Well so swapping wifi cards did not fix it, copying over the .dat file did not fix it, forcing the Windows 10 Fall Creator's Upgrade did not fix it (though I thought it did for a few days) and finally, getting a new fan driven laptop cooling pad did not fix it. I'm at a loss of what to try now. My husband, on the same home wifi network as I am, does not experience these FPS slow downs.

And the cat5 cable for not fix it. I know a lot of people are experiencing this for what they think is their connection to the anet servers but my husband does not have this problem.

Also experiencing 1-2 seconds skill delay alot the past 2-3 weeks. I like to roam solo or small group in wvw, which is next to impossible if vital skills fire later than intended. As sometimes you are facing ovehwhelming oposition. Then it sort of sucks to have them kill you not because they were more or you were not good enough but simply because your skills do not fire when you want them to. If this is because of some server move, I suggest you move them back. Because this is really gamebreaking and if its not because of a move I think you should look into why this has started happening and find a resolution. Either way, you can't expect to have a fast paced competitive mmo running for long if you wont pony up for proper connectivety and server. FIX IT QUICK ANET

(I'm from Europe and i play on a European server, no idea if those servers got moved aswell?)

The FPS issues are definitely due to the particle effects introduced in the two major expansions and the rework of Lion's Arch.

Original Guild Wars 2 content runs well enough. It looks like optimisation went right out the door in later years, and this is obviously something that can't be easily fixed, unless the game is majorly reworked, which won't happen. I guess it's time for Guild Wars 3 in a year or two.

As of last night, I started having major ping/latency issues with the game, most noticeably in WvW. I am not having download/upload problems in any other program, Internet seems to be working fine other than the GW2 issue. I eventually get forced out with the Error 7 notice. Is anyone else noticing that the problems are exacerbated or only occurring in WvW?

Since I am experiencing heavy lag issues for a couple of days (since January 2018) I wanted to share my "workaround". Ingame Ping always seemed to be fine (50ms), but skill activation lagged a few seconds.

fyi: I am located at Berlin, Germany with a Telekom 100Mbit fibre internet connection and play with a 2.4GHz / 5GHz WLAN. pathping didn't work, tracert showed up a few hops with 2k ping.

1. Restarted my Fritzbox 7490 - no success

2. Turned of all IP TV - no success

3. Turned of 5GHz WLAN after I noticed maximum WLAN workload (100%) - success!

Ingame Ping rose up to 50-200ms but I dont have any more lag when activating skills. I am aware my issues are **local** issues, but maybe anyone can confirm these hints will work.

Tried Pingzapper and WTFast - did not make any difference in case of ping stats. Pings are still bad.

Half a month after my last post and still no changes. Lag spikes and high Ping is still happening. The only time I can play on a relatively "low ping", which is a sad 350ms (from my old 250ms), is during 10:30PM GMT+8 and onward until early NA.

Honestly, this is kinda frustrating. I wish ANET would acknowledge that this is a problem affecting some players worldwide and post a response to this thread.

Until then, I'm probably only limited to doing the daily login / achievement (which are a pain to do cause everything is delayed)

If it ever boils down to this. I don't know what to do. Money doesn't grow on trees and anything above $5 for me is pretty expensive for a game that is supposed to be Buy-2-Play. (and yes, $5 on my end is pretty high when converting it to our local currency)

Yes the spikes is what really kills it for me too, both in spvp and wvw, and they seem more and more frequent. RIP GW2? *sadface*

I am getting these lag spikes which goto 4k making the game unplayable. This issue mostly comes up when doing meta events like Auric Basin,Silverwastes etc. This was never happening before like a couple of months ago.Really frustrated that i can't do any sort of group content with this.

if you have nvidia Geforce GTX 970 graphic card, it is caused By the newer drivers.... you need to remove old drivers and install driver version 385.28 and prevent Windows 10 from automatically downloading the driver .... Anyways it is little tricky

if there is any good VPN to use from SEA region (especially Indonesia) to connect to NA server, and has proven to work. please do tell.

Game is just unplayable. 4 of my friends already experiencing this. 1 from Malaysia experience the same problem too. we can't do anything in wvw. the ping shows 300-400, but all skills are delayed. can't even move to commander tag. can't even approach Stone Mist.

Is this behaviour 970 specific or might other nvidias be affected also? Where do you have this information from?

Heres the thread I found the solution from in gw2 forums https://en-forum.guildwars2.com/discussion/15302/solved-fps-drops-randomly-to-8fps

The solution is in the reddit thread mentioned in the opening post.

It has something to do with the never nvidia drivers but no1 else than GTX 970 seemed to have the problem

Does this issue affect the GTX 1080 as well?

We spent a couple days working on my settings and our network settings. We found that my computer was using utopia.net as it's DNS server. According to what we could figure out, this is a problem that affects some Comcast users that have a certain ARRIS router/modem. We were eventually able to stop it after lots of registry editing, rebooting, manually setting the DNS and finally swapping out the ARRIS router causing the problem and using the old ASUS one we had and putting the ARRIS router in bridge mode. My husband also blocked utopia using the ASUS router. This was right after my last post 10 daysish ago and I am no longer having the ping and FPS lag spikes. I have NO idea if this was it.

Thanks mate, that actually resolved mostly (if not fully) strange hitching when opening map or looking around when new map loaded after using teleport.

Using GTX 980Ti.
