Astriadex.2716
So I'm trying to pick up Chronotanking for my Guild's Raid Group, but I'm not quite sure how to go about it. I get that Toughness makes mobs more aggro towards you, but am I suppose to do something special as a tank or do I just play it as Boon Chrono, but with the boss punching me in the face? Currently going off SnowCrow's build, if current ChronoTanks can give me some insight that'd be amazing! https://snowcrows.com/raids/builds/mesmer/chronomancer/support/

Cyninja.2954
Depending on the boss and mechanics, it can be as simple as reduce as much self damage as possible and position to boss correctly (while providing boons), up to deal with mechanics, use specific skills at the right time, reduce damage, buff squad and position correctly. **Wing 1** Vale Guardian - position the boss correctly, don't get ported by blue circles, provide boons to squad and cc when required. Toughness based aggro Gorseval - position boss correctly, turn boss away from squad, provide boons to squad, cc when required and ideally provide aegis and stability for slams. Toughness based aggro Sabetha - no tank mechanics, reduce tank gear and provide boons and damage, use focus for pulling adds **Wing 2** Sloth - no solo tank mechanic. Provide boons, cc when required, use focus for pulling adds, try to catch as many projectiles during shake as possible Trio - no tank mechanic, tank chrono should be doing mortars Mathias - no tank mechanic, if using full minstrel tank gear, help out with condi cleanse and healing to group, provide boons and cc when required **Wing 3** Escort - tank chrono should be doing cave and towers KC - position boss correctly, provide boons to squad, cc when required, help pushers with focus pull. Toughness based aggro Xera - position boss correctly (know the patterns and where to go), ABSOLUTELY turn boss away from squad, reduce damage from boss via shatter cleansing conditions and blocking or otherwise avoiding the bosses Confounding Frenzy, provide boons to squad, cc when required, use special action key when required properly, call shards to clear. Toughness based aggro **Wing 4** Cairn - no tank mechanic, don't get ported by circles, provide boons to squad, cc when required, if you are running minstrel gear intentionally take a red and move out of group MO - know how and when to claim, provide boons to squad, position boss correctly. Special mechanic based tanking Samarog - tank mechanic based on range, provide boons to squad, cc when required, use focus pull to help position Rigom Deimos - bring aegis well to be able to protect yourself and potentially the black kiter, position correctly and don't get knocked off the platform. Reduce damage as much as possible with skills especially during hectic phases. Toughness based aggro **Wing 5** Soulless Horror - special skill tank mechanic, position boss correctly, buff squad, turn boss as much away as possible from squad, coordinate with 2nd tank as to not have one take on to many debuff stacks, cc when required. Special mechanic based tanking River - no tank mechanic Dhuum - position correctly and move throughout the room, block as many attacks of Dhuum as possible as to reduce damage to self, provide boons to squad, help with condition cleanse after greater death mark if need be. Toughness based aggro **Wing 6** CA - no tank mechanic, tank chrono can do shields or swords Twins - depending on left or right side, position boss correctly, provide boons, cc when required, reduce damage to self as much as possible to relieve healer. Toughness based aggro Quadim - tank the adds by staying closer than any other squad member, don't get ported, provide boons to squad, cc when required. On splits, use focus pull on big elementals, remove protection or retaliation from guardian pyres. ranged based aggro mechanic
Turin.6921
Snow crows website has a tab for Guides. You will find a support chrono guide there that explains also tanking and things to be careful per boss. Its a good place to start.

And than cried SoI still extends boon duration, but yes: Maybe I should of just left aegis in there. Was counting the extending squad stability but that can be confusing with the last change to SoI. Cyninja.2954
There are sort of break points for toughness. Past break points were 1,500 - 1,800 - and maximum toughness (and many other in-between). 1,500+ toughness is for the most squishy tanks (some go even lower). The idea here is to compensate for some classes talents which might add 400 toughness bringing players to 1,400 toughness. 1,800+ toughness is for runs where you have some people have to do other mechanics (say Hand Kiter on Demios which require another person beside the tank to stack toughness). Maximum toughness gets usually run on the fights where you will take big chunks of damage or might be left without a healer for a while. **In general, the amount of toughness you take is dependent on how much you are comfortable with for a given fight, how much is required by your squad so that you are highest on toughness and how much concentration/toughness gear you need to bring. Please check some build guides on metabattle or snowcrows for how the class is played.** Also make sure to read up on fights and/or watch some videos. Blindly starting to tank will get you and your squad killed. Not all mechanics are easy to pick up on if not read up on first (unless your squad is into figuring things out themselves). Ideally go for 1 wing and try to master that, then move to the next. Even after all this time, Wing 1 is considered a very good place to start tanking and practice. Most of bosses attacks can be distorted, evaded blocked etc, but for example on sh I like to go full minstrel. All quadims hydra attacks hurt a lot so all of them must be mitigated, so if ur good, u can even go rly low, u just can get one shoted eventually. If ur starting to tank its better to have higher toughness to be sure u won't die. Imo it doesn't matter that much if ull be making 2 or 5 k dps

I real life I suggest use more toughness build, and set minimal value to 1800 or increase until 2200+. And be ready that very otfen ~1500 heals have too. And keep mind, that for exsample if raid group partially contains from guild members, wihtout 250 lee filter :)), you shod be ready that heal have 1800+ too, especial if this is revenant.
