computer.1468
Does someone think that new SoI is good? I am a wvw player so I know very little about pve, but the post I have seen about SoI has a bad reaction on it. I think there are two main problem on new SoI. 1. Timing of using SoI: New SoI relies on other players give boon first because chronomancer can only offer very little type of boons. Maybe alacrity and quickness are enough in pve but not in wvw. New SoI just become useless in wvw 2. New SoI has nothing to do with concentration: Although this skill's function is to do something with boon duration, concentration is not useful at all. This could be a good thing to chronomancer because you can increase your damage or hp etc. instead of having concentration. However it is still extremely strange to me that concentration is not react with SoI.
Heartpains.7312
Okay, what I think the reason is, are things like rune of durability, I mean I had idea once of running more than Mesmer to toy around with this xD so an almost worthless 1sec of resistance can extend etc, And not saying that's why the changes, I bet they are changing randomly as usual, damn whoever invented the dartboard nerfboard!! =p
Ojimaru.8970
The _current_ version of SOI is actually too good. As you duly pointed out, it is not affected by Concentration. Secondly, it is a flat increase in duration. In other words, with zero Concentration, you can increase the duration of a 1-second Resistance boon to 6 seconds; and you can do this for up to ten player characters. Every other flat boon duration increase mechanic goes to only two to three seconds, and are either personal (Essence of Speed) or up to 5 characters (Consumer Legendary Dragon Stance). This is in addition of the Chrono's ability to use CS to double cast SOI, can gain Distortion after each cast, and SOI applying to every individual stack of boon. Tempests now have two 30cd 3-second increases on 10 targets from one traitline. SOI requires Inspiration and Chrono to be better.

SOI requires Inspiration and Chrono to be better. I must have missed it in the patch notes, but where did you see Tempests getting an "Increase Boon Duration" effect similar to Signet of Inspiration? They already had it. Now it exceeds our baseline with Inspiration, Mimic, and no Chrono. > Sand Squall: The increased boon duration that this skill grants has been increased from 2 seconds to 3 seconds. The number of allies this affects has been increased from 5 to 10. https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Sand_Squall https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Imbued_Melodies So they can double SOI every 30. While we have a 60cd mimic. Of course with Chrono, especially improved alacrity, ours is much better, but that's two trait lines.

I like to clarify that the current version of SoI is very *abusable*, but it is not *good*. If you abuse the mechanics by stacking multiple mesmers and overlapping the duration increase, it's very broken because it has no limits. However, the way it functions is poor, the fact that it doesn't work with concentration is bad, and the impact that a single signet has is poor. If anything this complements chrono as tempest looks better as a druid alternative. And ele must run warhorn, and be in earth attunement to use sand squall. And running the GM trait for sand squall is significantly worse on support/healing builds than the heal on aura trait. So you may see single sand squall but double isn't worth it. Ele doesn't have a single trait that affects weapon skills (even cooldown reductions are attunement focused). And ele is tied to warhorn for theirs. (That GM trait is garbage on support builds and dps tempest takes it because there is literally nothing better).

Spike.5073
Because they misunderstand their own class. Look at my post on page one of the balance post. I think I explain why this skill isn't working well at all.

SoI just needs to be redesigned, it will never be both balanced and fun to use with its current functionality. It can be, at most, one or the other
