why toughness not effective in this game?_?

Honestly that's the only reason to why I'm playing GW2 PvP (and the overall combat system). All other MMOs have ridiculous long time-to-kill to the point where it doesn't make any fun. Like did you ever play or watch FF14 PvP? Lame af, it takes aaaages to kill someone, especially with a healer.. Anybody thought Firebrand had op heal? lel.

Also in nearly every other MMO you have to rely on shitty RNG miss/dodge/block mechanics, whereas in GW2 we have at least full control over all of this (that is if the servers aren't laggy and you have a quarter second delay despite having 20 ping ofc), which takes more timing skill than those passive % effects.

 

Also, why are there a lot of ppl taking demolisher amulet over marauder, if it doesn't do anything? Almost every Reaper, Holo, Warrior and Ranger (meta) build is with Demolisher and there are also quite a few Revs taking it too.

There's two main problems:

- Protection stacks in duration, and is a flat 33% (40% on Engi/Tempest), and some classes can take this even further. Its not uncommon to see 50-60% reduction on a character with very little effort (maybe some Protection/boon duration, a few traits ,etc.).

- Healing has been lost in the power creep, this used to be a fairly powerful mechanic that made bunker builds possible.. In particular, the Regeneration boon, which was a cornerstone of builds like Ranger bunker in pre-HoT area, is completely useless now.

 

The first one is a problem because a sufficient amount of defense is too easy to get on glass cannons that have full DPS builds. The second one is a problem because Toughness was mostly useful for bunker builds and without a persistent health regeneration to give sustain..

 

You might as well just run glass and use %damage reductions, blocks/evades, blinds, etc. now. There's no point in trying to be a tank, it was a central part of the game at one point and there was a time when entire strategies in PvP and WvW revolved around that but the excessive power creep has destroyed it. Even with HoT and PoF adding dedicated healers, and %healing modifiers that can reach up to 200-300%+, the game is still all about damage because the damage has gone up soo much that it has far exceeded everything else that was added.

 

If you increase healing by 5x on a specialised build and increase damage by 10x on a junk build, it doesn't matter.
