[Going Beyond] Harathi Hinterlands (cool stuff, horse-faces and a lost town)

Recommended Posts

Hello, so in short, I love finding my way out of the maps in gw2. There's always something cool to look at, and today I bring my first post from the Harathi Hinterlands. There will however not be any tutorials on how to get beyond the map's boundaries, since showing it might make ANet patch it and I don't want that, there's no exploitation coming from it so I see no reason for it being fixed, especially if you have to go who knows where to get out of the map.

But, for those who love getting out of the map just like me I'll say that it isn't too hard to find, just follow the dead.

Now here's some pictures.

Each map has it's soft and hard edge it seems, the soft edge is far away out of reach where the water ends and the hard edge is the outline of the square or cube the map is set in. There is an invisible wall there that, to my knowledge so far, cannot be passed.

You remember the centaur camp on the hill near the small town where to finish the heart you need to wait an hour in front of the gate because you can't bothered to feed the chickens?

Well you can get there! You can find centaurs there with coded routes and patrols, although they tend to vanish from time to time. You can also spook players from ''beyond reality''.

A nice close-up of our 4 hoofed friends.

Seems the entire camp is just one centaur over and over, but I think I saw a single different one, was too fast to catch him though.

And now the best part of all. Some of you remember this door, near the checkpoint and a jumping puzzle, you can't use mounts there so I'm sure you know it.

Normally you can't go past this door no matter what, but now you can just fly to it through some rock. And what hides behind it?

An entire small town with animated spinning ''antenna'' a few torches and even a cool purple machine, which I assume is a furnace of some sort.

That's all for this part, they may be a lot more to explore, but it's midnight so I might wanna go to sleep now. More posts sure to come :3

Cya!

No wonder some maps tend to cause lag when there is animated content beyond the visible/accessible.

No news there. Everyone who picked the Skritt for the personal story has been there without using tricks. ;)

Thanks for the peek at the horses! I always felt the Centaur conflict was an undertold story though. We do get a smidgen of nuance from a [Centaur envoy](https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Centaur_Emissary "Centaur envoy") who comes peacefully to a hostile Human reception, but the story doesn't really do much with it. Instead of solving the conflict, we kill the Harathi in map events and later meet "better" Centaurs out in Maguuma who are friendly from the outset.

Always seemed a little cheap, but at least it's in line with sidestepping grey morality in the rest of the game.

Leaving it unresolved at this point allows them to return to it at any time in the future...and there are places not yet mapped that are home to a lot more Centaurs then we've seen.
