Cuks.8241
Elementalist: Shaman Shamans, compared to Tempests and Weaver which have refined their magic skills, are the original users of elemental magic. Living as hermits in secluded areas, away from civilization, they have more primal connection to the elements. While their elemental magic is basic, they can summon elemental spirits, bind and consume them and in the process even take their powers and their form. While in the elemental form they lose their basic abilities but gain powerful new abilities depending on the elemental form. New weapon: axes or hammer. I have always seen mesmers closer to arcane than elementalists.

Mesmers have Chaos magic, which is different from Arcane magic, but I agree that they both just feel like raw magic. Chaos magic has a clear theme of manipulation, randomness, and bending reality. But, Arcane magic has always been ambiguous in GW1 and GW2. Having an elite spec that dives deeper into Arcane magic is a good opportunity for Anet to flesh out the lore and flavor of Arcane magic.
