  1. I posted this a bit ago in the tech support forum. On review I should have posted it here I guess since it is website related. Since the Mac client has been discontinued you should update that to reflect the change. Right now it still shows as a supported OS under minimum system requirements. It might help with refund requests and support tickets.

    > The first time I looked at my profile, when I hadn't created any discussions at all, it showed I'd created one. I never got an answer about how or why that happened but I kept an eye on it for a while and the number of 'phantom discussions' crept up over time. As far as I know I've only had 2 or 3 topics deleted but the list on my profile only shows 81 and the count says I've created 110.

When a forum member reports a post for some reason it counts as a discussion.

If that is the case in my opinion they should revert back to the old policy. It seems a bit irresponsible to offer display name changes to anyone that asks now if it can still break the account. I suppose some people are willing to take that risk though. I wonder what they meant when they mentioned that they got their tools and display name system updated if it can still break things. Doesn't seem like a very good update in that case. :) I'll edit my OP to mention there could still be a risk.

I can see that may be a concern. Anet's communication isn't totally clear as to if a display name change still runs the risk of causing problems with the account. From GMMagister's post on reddit:

    >**While it was technically possible, it could permanently break an account** in a way where it would end up unable to chat, add friends, interact with guilds, or the display name change simply wouldn't take. For this reason, we would only change the name if it contained a significant amount of personal information (such as first AND last name,) or if it was in violation of the Terms of Service.

    >**Thankfully, we finally got our tools and the display name system updated, which is why we updated the policy this year!** While we may come across a couple cases where we can't change the name, these should be few and far between, **so this limitation is pretty much a thing of the past.**

So to me I read this as they updated their tools to the point a display name change no longer runs the risks of causing issues. Thus why they offer it as option without the prior restrictions. But what do I know? Again, as some mentioned above, a bit of communication here from Anet might have been helpful. But maybe they just don't want support flooded with display name change requests by talking about it. Who knows?

For a game I have not really played in over a year aside from logging in to unlock the living boring episodes in the event I decide to play again, I should not be investing my time to try and sort this out. That should be Anet's job. I was just a bored today. :)

  5. Edit 6 Dec 2020: It has been reported in this thread that changing a display name can still cause problems for the account. [Details in the post located here.](https://en-forum.guildwars2.com/discussion/comment/1384741/#Comment_1384741)

I know a ton of people have wanted this for a long time but wasn't available unless there were specific requirements met. It appears now that has changed. According to GMMagister on Reddit this can now be done via a support ticket.

When this was asked in the same thread:

    > Does this mean I can put in a ticket to finally change my name??

    Here is GMMagister's reply:

    > As long as you don't pick "Kirito" you should be golden!

    >

    > True story - there's so many of those that even the randomly generated 4 digit number at the end may be running out, or the system just has issues finding an unclaimed number. ;D

  6. If you bought the expansions in game then your account is automatically upgraded as it seems you have seen. The email with the serial code is to keep for your records. Keep it handy in the event you should need to provide it to support for some reason in the future. If you want to buy the expansions for a friend you can not do that in game. You can buy it from the webstore/authorized retailers and you will be given a code. You can then send the unused code to your gift recipient. They will then have to go to the My Account page for their account and add the code to unlock the expansions.

  7. I won't be buying the next expansion, that is if it even happens. My guess is if completed the next expansion will be their last given it is running on an outdated system. But that doesn't really have much to do with why I won't be buying it.

I just don't enjoy the game anymore and the direction it has gone over the last year or so, maybe even before.

I disagree with the way Anet has been communicating with customers over the last year or so or lack there of. **Anet seems terrified of interacting with their customer base.** No more AMAs, no more Release Day Dev Celebrations, no more ArenaNet Forum Chats. Heck, Mike Z left as game director and there was no follow up as to who was filling that space and what to expect. It was just a rumor for months. That was a bit odd to me since when [Mike O left October 2019 it was an announcement that Mike Z was taking over.](https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/a-message-from-mike-obrien/) Then it turned out [Mike Z left a month later](https://massivelyop.com/2020/03/27/former-arenanet-game-mike-zadorojny-is-now-working-for-amazon-games-studios/) without so much as a mention... IMO, there seems to be a lack of confidence in what Anet/NCSoft is doing with GW2 given the staff members that have left over the last year.

Overall, Anet's fear of engaging the community and being somewhat transparent is what has turned me off. I'm not going to support that from Anet by logging in to increase player count or to buy gems anymore. They just seem too disinterested in their customers these days. Maybe that has to do with NCSoft getting more involved again, I don't know. In my opinion since I started playing in 2013 the game has slowly gone from making engaging content to making just enough content to keep people logging in and looking at the gem store. I guess that makes sense as a buy to play game, but the shift has not appealed to me over the last year or more. The monetized build template thing turned me off even more. Good thing things were not like this back when they came up with the wardrobe system years ago which is an awesome feature. Otherwise players would probably be buying gems to save things in the wardrobe. :)

I wish the best for the game, those that still enjoy it, as well as all that work for Anet. It was fun for several years but I just don't care about GW2 anymore and Anet hasn't really given me a a reason to.

I imagine my post will get some backlash from people and I'll be told that I'm wrong. That's fine. I've said what I felt like saying and as I am sadly done with GW2 this is my last post here. I don't see a point arguing about how I feel or trying to convince others. I've enjoyed chatting with many of you, argued with many more. Stay well and if you still enjoy GW2 then I hope it brings you many more years of happiness. :)

    > Oh look, someone else totally neglecting the entire point people are making By what stick do you measure who suffered most from the down time? Those who lost physical goods? How do you deal with that? Tickets? You think Anet have the staff for that? So they go with log in during a parcicular time period. That period does not reflect who COULD log in and who was affected by the down time because they could not. So if they could, who says they would not have made 1000g? Who says I didn't lose 250 items on the TP but I did not realise?

    >

    > And so, their method of compensation is flawed because it is not only those who logged on in a few hours who were affected.

Could have, should have, might have. Good grief... For people that lost goods or gold then they should submit support tickets. That has already been addressed .

Hey everyone, I was going to clear all raids, craft every precursor, do every world boss as well as hours of RIBA. But the game went down for a day. Give, me, give me... I might have made 1000's of gold.

  10. I'm having a good chuckle at all the people that said they didn't log in when things seemed broken because they "didn't want to make things worse for Anet." LOL. Also:

    1. You are not being punished for not logging in after the rollback. If it was a punishment it would be something like, "Every EU player that didn't login during that time will lose 25% of their gold." That's punishment. Not getting something just because you want it is not punishment.

    2. Many, many players never follow the forums, Twitter, Reddit, and would never know there was a problem. There are probably thousands of players that don't play everyday and would not have noticed there was a problem due to the initial rollback.

    3. I know a lot of NA players that stopped playing when they heard what was happening. There was some fear that there may be a rollback across both regions to correct it. So if EU players stopped playing and deserve the reward, "because they didn't want to make things 'worse' for Anet," then all those NA players that stopped playing and "lost potential progress" deserve it as well for trying to do best by Anet. /sarcasm

    5. You will live. It's just a skin.

This reminds me of the time they gave out, I think it was a kite, for people that bought gems over a period of time as a thank you. People freaked out saying things like, "I would have bought gems if I knew," and it was never done again. Even though most of the people complaining probably never bought gems.

The OP seems to be talking about character name change. From what I know of that from buying a name change contract and using it is programed in as I have used them myself. It is instant once used and seems to not be dependent on a dev to actually change the name. That is unless there is a dev sitting there waiting as I use the name change contract I purchased which is doubtful. ;)

Perhaps you are thinking of display name change which does require a dev, can't be bought and is only available via strict rules like using full real name, a display name that violates the naming policy, or the bug that gives players the number and letter code name.

I 100% support this. But it should be part dragon, part man with a beefy arm. It should be a dragon man.... Or maybe he was just was just a dragon. But he was still Rodgort!!!! :sunglasses:

  13. I have not really played since August 2019, just before the over hyped presentation. I log in time to time to unlock episodes and my only AP since August was 1 point from getting a mail about Lunar New Year and clicking the attached item which was a portal and awarded 1 AP for doing so. I never cared for the story and skipped as much of it as I could to play the parts I wanted to. But the problem I see is Anet keeps trying to reinvent things instead of improving on the "groundwork" they already developed.

Dungeons, left behind when I think a lot of players would play them more if they were tweaked a bit and added a chance at a really rare reward. Guilds and guild missions, again left behind. Bounties, again seems to be left behind. Most of the masteries players gained from HoT have little to no value in the game post HoT. Now the next big thing is strike missions that I'm willing to bet will be abandoned before the year is over. It seems like a lot of "groundwork" often gets abandoned after a while and I can't blame people for being skeptical.

Overall I think Anet needs to stop trying to reinvent the MMO wheel and focus on making fun, rewarding, replayable content based on what they have already developed. Instead it seems they keep reaching and trying to convince players that their next "innovation" is going to be the next best thing in MMOs. Improve on the systems in place and give a reason for players to replay it instead of constantly trying to invent new "groundwork" that seems more often than not abandoned at some point.

I don't think it is bad that Anet tries to work outside the typical MMO box with GW2. I just think at times they seem to be throwing darts and hoping things stick long enough for the next "hyped" feature that will come and go..

As for people that mention an optional sub... My question is what does that optional sub give? If it is only gems a month, well you can already buy that every month if you want to. So an optional sub would have to offer something more but what? It can't be for access to the stories/sagas or people will get really mad at this point since Anet has already set a standard for that. Unlimited material storage like ESO Plus has? Or what? What could an optional sub offer that isn't already available via the gem store to convince players to subscribe instead of just buying on demand? My point is if Anet offered an optional subscription they would have to in some way handicap those that do no subscribe to make it worth it for subscribers. At this point the way GW2 has been marketed and developed it would not go over well.

As for the emails. I changed my settings for my account several months ago to turn off receiving newsletters. That didn't work and I still received them. In December I still got sent the newsletter and once the same newsletter multiple times in multiple languages. I had to send a support request to be removed from the mailing list as doing so in my account settings didn't work. The support request seems to have worked as opposed to turning off newsletters in my account settings. So it seems turning it off in the account options does not work. Hope that feedback helps.

Edit: Also those emails I got did not have an unsubscribe link that I could find.

Oh, yes it seems your issue did go a bit off the topic. But myself and others were simply trying to answer posts from those questioning the legitimacy of such surveys. I agree if you had less than 24 hours to respond to the survey maybe that should be looked at by Anet. After all not everyone reads all their email within 24 hours myself included. I don't remember the amount of time between when I got the survey request email several months ago and when I completed the survey.

They do send out surveys occasionally. There was one I know of last July as I received it and it had the same wording. Here is a thread with similar concerns from that time frame.

But if you are concerned you can always contact support or just ignore the survey.

You can purchase PoF (and previously HoT) via the gem store interface on accounts that don't have the expansion but only for real world money and not gems. That's how I bought each expansion. It automatically upgrades the account with no need to enter a key.

  18. To clarify.. The Black Friday sale is for the Deluxe Upgrades for HoT and PoF and not for the expansions.

    https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Guild_Wars_2:_Heart_of_Thorns%E2%80%94Digital_Deluxe_Upgrade

    > Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns—Digital Deluxe Upgrade is an account upgrade and requires a standard edition of Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns.

    https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Guild_Wars_2:_Path_of_Fire%E2%80%94Digital_Deluxe_Upgrade

    > Guild Wars 2: Path of Fire—Digital Deluxe Upgrade is an account upgrade and requires a standard edition of Guild Wars 2: Path of Fire.

You have to already have the standard versions of the expansions to upgrade to deluxe. It is a fairly common misunderstanding from what I have seen here and on GW2 reddit. The expansion PoF which now also includes HoT is not on sale via the Black Friday sale at this time.

  19. I may be very wrong but I don't think Anet has a large enough customer base or the funds to do marketing campaigns with multi billion dollar companies like McDonalds that reach 100's of millions of customers. This Business Insider article from 2012 claims that [McDonalds feeds 68 million people](https://www.businessinsider.com/19-facts-about-mcdonalds-that-will-blow-your-mind-2012-4#mcdonalds-sells-more-than-75-hamburgers-every-second-2") a day and sells 75 hamburgers every second. I mean would a company as large as McDonalds even be interested in a campaign with a company as small as Anet without Anet having to pay McDonalds what I am guessing would have to be a very, very large sum of money given McDonalds global reach?
