  1. Non of them sounds that interesting, I want a Half-Demon race in Cantha, Like Fox Demon or Dragon Demon, those are more Oriental mythology related.

Secondly while, yes Cantha is mostly a hodge-pog of different Asian cultures, it's not a one to one comparison. Case in point: the predominant dragons of Cantha, the Saltsprays, _had wings._ We don’t know if mount is a POF specialty thing yet... and creature from GW2 could look different than GW1 version. also there can be way more type of dragon than Saltsprays hah

Look at the skin closely, it actually got a lot of details, the hair is not poorly done, the paws looks good and tails too. I think my biggest problem with it now is mostly it’s face, it’s looks a lot more like a goat than a dog, a dog would be so much better, but a goat face with that evil eyes (why gave him an evil vertical pupil eyes) it not that cute. And these horn design just make it look even more like a goat, maybe it’s the intention to make it a little devilish? But then I’m struggle to decide if the skin should be cute or creepy, I rather it get a simply wolf face with a deer/ox horn

Oh u still on that topic lol... I’m was just explaining why it’s call Lunar new year... But see those examples u showed are using the word “Moon” rather than Lunar. If the skin is call Moon Maned I wouldn’t question the oriental reference at all. Sure lunar mean moon first, it’s also Sailor Moon’s black cat and Sarah Brightman’s album name. Those are the things that came to my mind first when I hear the word ? The reason it get connect with Cantha is also because of the timing, it became available on the day the Lunar New Year event finished, and sure It’s not necessary that they are connected, but there defiantly I tension there. The skin grow on me though, might get it today
  6. Hum, i suddenly realize this skin looks a lot like the Forest Spirit creature in Princess Mononoke ![](https://i.imgur.com/si4IxWj.jpg "")

Trivia: Lunar New Year (or Chinese New Year) is the Spring Festival based on the Yin Calender (as Yin and Yang). and it's based on the full cycle of the moon phases. The modern calendar we use today is also existed in Chinese culture and they call it Yang Calender (sun calendar) or Nong Calender which mean Agriculture Calender. It's more called Lunar new year now days because a lot of other Asian countries other than China also share this tradition.

That doesn't mean the artist who designed it set out to design an Asian style dragon and somehown accidentally drew that instead, just that it was an available design at the right time and someone in marketing wanted to make it obvious it's tied to the Lunar New Year. Kinda agree, probably just a bad naming... I’m ok with this skin’s look, just worry that the art department will associate the furry/dog looking features with eastern dragon design, that’s it... A lot of people think it’s acceptable because the furry dragon design in Spirited Away, personality I think Ghibli did a bad design by giving the dragon lot of furs, specially it is a water/river-god dragon. It should look more like a serpent or reptile. Feel like they did that to try to look different and cool... Furry dragon could be a good idea if it’s some kind of arctic monster...

Kuunavang actually looks very close to the Shimmering skyscale model

Yeah I think they do know how to model a oriental dragon, this skin is just a lazier approach to re-model the skyscale, it’s fine, but they could do a little bit more, for example a bigger and more stylized head fur (like the fur style on the Shrine guardian Jackal skin) and it would already look much better.
  12. > @"hatsamu.4327" said: > I don't think it's supposed to be an oriental dragon. I think it's "lunar" because it's like a wolf-dragon-thing, like you'd see on DeviantArt. And other places. I can see the reference from Spirited Away dragon, it’s a very unique new design they introduced in the movie with the wolf face and hairy body, and since then there are artists start to go that direction because the movie is famous. In eastern mythology, dragons (called Loong) is a creature that lives in water either ocean or lake, and they have power to control water and weather, that’s why they are so powerful and treated like god because farming culture depends on the rain to get good harvest. So those creature highly related to water animals, they are called the King of all scaled. Covered by a whole body of fur won’t do them good, they be always wet and swim super slow lol, I think it was a bad design decision for that movie anyway...

It is Tuesday, after all. > > That said, you’re not wrong to express your opinion, and I kind of agree. I love this skin and would like them to use it in the world somewhere, but I hope it’s not the only, or one of very few, designs of dragons we get to see. Considering the name of the expansion is end of *dragons*, we’re fighting 1 more more elder dragon, AND this is the empire of the dragon, I find it very unlikely we won’t see many more dragon designs. Also, this is really kind of a lunar new year skin, not cantha. The real question is why did they add this the day the festival ends and not a week or two prior? Yeah I’m just so excited for Cantha and I have high hope for the art. I love GW2 for the visual and I think it’s the best, so I just hope they treat some of the concept art a bit more seriously
