    Has there been anything else said relating to the topic from the official sources? Because a "concerted effort to change his look" may be interpreted as a plethora of things, and how much a sylvari is able to literally chisel their features into what they like goes back to the anatomy question from before.

    I couldn't find any mention of it, and the cultural armor certainly looks like it's growing out of the body itself, but there might be a way for a sylvari to attach more flora to themselves, especially considering it's easily removed on demand, like, say, humans do with piercings or simply other animals' leather in the form of clothing and adornments like bracelets and chokers.

  3. My apologies for the delay - the apparently old story DC glitch happened to fly by to say hi, and the Lunar New Year celebration was going away, which needed some testing (totally worth opening the envelopes at 1000%+ MF, by the by, even if compared to 1,44g each on the TP).

    I got to test the idea of alts as a solution, and it seems like you, indeed, receive the relevant item (in our case the Highlands Survival Stash) even if the achievement is complete, so the drop of the collection piece should be just a matter of the achievement missing it or not.

    Meaning a new character with the same allegiance should work flawlessly.

     

    As for an already existing character, item rewards tend to not be awarded while using the violet "Repeat for achievements" story instances, so starting this particular story step - The Sacrifice - from the point of entering Desert Highlands and following the story all the way to jumping over the Forged gate to enter Prophet's Fall should work, too, but I haven't tested this particular approach yet.

    Sure the character You were going through the story again with has the correct allegiance for the achiev?

    You can check it by going to Amnoon and look at the heraldry hanging around, also some ambient dialogue between NPCs makes a couple of references to the choice.

    I recall hearing somewhere that the clothes in this game do a lot to work with the bodies underneath them, and it seems like they, indeed, do.

    That's an interesting point, but it goes both ways.

    All the naysayers act like they have a degree in economics, a specialization for, and a millennium of practice in, the gaming industry, when the only thing they seem to have is "WoW is $15 a month, hurr durr", but there's a reason WoW has enough players to sustain itself thirty times over, and it has very little to do with barbershops changing hairstyles for 5 silver.

     

    Ultimately, ANet's communication with players - and with the world, looking at their marketing, or lack thereof - leaves a lot to be desired, so the only way to get to them would be through not buying their stuff, and force them this way to come out and go: "'Sup, guys, you're not buying gems anymore. What's the matter?"

    But they usually don't bother - and not just because it looks like they threw everything else to the wind to bee-line EoD; the Build "Templates" are still in-game and still monetized in the image of EA - since the game's upkeep costs are probably the same regardless of how many things they're adding to the game at the current pace, so they might as well keep them and cash in on newcomers who've no idea how the game and its creators operate yet.

     

    But who knows.

    The common denominator _is_ getting forcefully moved, unless WvW has it's own shenanigans at play, yet "random" is a cheap excuse for avoiding saying "I don't know".

    Mind that the CC doesn't need to come from a player's skill. You can get slapped by a hammer, shot by a trebuchet, dismounted through damage... pick your poison, and it'll still end up tilting the character, and, as I've said in the linked thread, you can go for hours without noticing it because you've been doing stuff and not focusing on your own animations, since the issue has to get either forcefully corrected by changing the model via a tonic, for example, or by an /emote, or standing still, in some cases.

     

    Which already suggests not all tilts are angled equal, and as such, by all means, test stuff, notice stuff, note down stuff and help the devs with information.

    Just don't run around saying "God did it". Hurts everybody in the end.

    It's leagues apart from a bad rate, of course, especially if the player in question is actually enjoying their WvW experience, since then it's much less about farming anything per se. That's the general idea of the part You quoted.

     

    When it comes to map completion, as I mentioned, the usual 1-10 level run (using all the available mounts, certainly not optimal routes, though) consisting of the human introductory sequence, all five racial capitals, Lion's Arch, and creating and deleting the character, takes me at most 50 minutes, which would mean a charge every 8-9 minutes.

    I believe I've calculated and compared the chance of getting a charge for other maps versus the time spent and currently most profitable meta farms before settling on the city runs, and come to the (rather obvious) conclusion that it's much better to farm the usual Silverwastes/Dragonfall/Drizzlewood and convert the gold than to drill a hole through one's head.

    If memory serves, it was actually better to farm the maps and buy even BL keys than to hope for those from map completion, but it's been a while, and conversion rates/profits tend to fluctuate.

     

    How many charges I use in a week... varies greatly with inspiration, and ANet's character slot sales :D

    Lately I've decided to gear all my current characters to be able to hold their ground in Strikes, which translates into at the very least 8 charges per set, plus, another 4, give or take, to cover for the lackluster preview window, the colors not matching, clipping, or everything combined. Then there's an open world set for each new character to begin with, and it really doesn't help I'm actually enjoying the entire process.

    In total, 24 charges per character that can get eaten in an hour or two, assuming I'm satisfied with the result, no other muse decides to show up, and I'm outfitting only those two roles on a single character, not others for, say, Fractals.

    But then again, it's not every hour I'm able to tinker with the wardrobe - mainly because I never have enough charges - and I imagine I'd be considered an outlier even by the Fashion Wars standards.

  9. I'm referring to exactly that part You took from the Wiki. Those two are the only mentions of the crystals on the entire page, and both have a different requirement.

     

    If what You're saying about the chests is true, however, we've found the murderer AND the weapon, because

    the Wiki's [article](https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Dragon_Response_Mission#Rewards) about DRMs states, and I quote:

    "Depending on the amount of challenges complete, **one** of these:

    * Bronze Rank Chest (0/3 challenges)

    * Silver Rank Chest (1/3 challenges)

    * Gold Rank Chest (2-3/3 challenges)

    * Each chest contains karma, unidentified gear, upgrades, crafting materials, Tyrian Defense Seals and extra Prismaticite Crystals if the required Dragon Slayer masteries have been unlocked."

  10. The research drop pages are sorted by even the specific order of drops, so I imagine that, if the reporters (or, well, one) have been diligent enough to bother with this, they would also not randomly forget to mention five other crystals.

     

    Besides, where does the Wiki confirm that you get three crystals with the gold chest and the first boost?

    I might be missing something, but each category has a number of picks stated immediately, with each item's possible count listed after said item, so it's "**Three** of the following items: Wool Scrap **(2-5)**, Cotton Scrap **(2-3)**, Linen Scrap **(2-5)**..."

    And the crystals have only a single pick with no count listed after the item.

    The golden chest doesn't even claim any number of crystals as a guaranteed drop, which, again, agrees with the drop research page.

    ...and is kinda weird, considering both previous chests have them as guaranteed drops.

     

    If there's something truly derailing the issue that You're having, it's Your original post's first four words.

    Which seems equally as apparent to You, since You decided to promptly end the search once a tangible way to be more or less certain got presented.

     

    Well danced, but I'd recommend better shoes.

  11. If You have the data, there's little I can argue with.

    I'm simply pointing out the fact that taking into account how well "ArenaNet" rhymes with "consistency" and that the crystals, no matter their listings in the Wiki's copied loot table, don't seem to appear as flawlessly in the player-fueled logs, relying on anybody saying "I remember" is the surest way to a cult.

     

    Granted, my sole evidence is based on the research pages, and I've no idea how peer-reviewed, so to speak, they are by the Wiki admins.

    But if You've been doing the DRMs daily since they came out, You can simply count backwards all the Prismaticite You have.

    No mastery (bought the Dragon Crystal, though), no CMs, solo.

    Bronze chest (0/3, duh): karma thimble, common unid gear, emerald crystal, 2 darksteel ingots.

    3 crystals from the daily.

    The Bronze Chest [drop research page](https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Bronze_Rank_Chest/Drop_rate) claims similar results.

     

    All in all, a pitifully small sample size, but it still brings Your memory, Ayrilana, into question, even if we disregard my run as already bugged (which would still at least show that the bug comes either from somewhere else, or from the crystal itself. A tiny step closer to the truth, but a step closer nonetheless).

     

    On the other hand, the Gold Chest [drop research page](http://https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Gold_Rank_Chest/Drop_rate) has exactly one crystal listed as looted in three runs, which would precisely explain the 3 or 4 crystal drops You mentioned.

    Then again, sample size of a religious anecdote.

    Aren't the chests only sparingly parting with Prismaticite?

    I might've just been spitting in the face of RNGzus too much lately, but I recall getting the crystals mainly as the daily reward (3 -> 2 -> 1), very rarely from drops.

    Unless the rewards scale with party size; the vast majority of my runs were solo, duo at most.

     

    Edit II: Edited the first edit in light of "new" evidence. Ever tried mousing over the date in the top-right corner? Fabulous thing!

     

    Edit III: We might not be able to see the edits, but I highly doubt the forum owners can't either. Your doubling down, Ayrilana, means nothing.

     

    Edit IV: What can I say, I do hold truth in high regard - always have, by the by - and there's enough people running around trying to edit it out to keep their renown among faceless masses. To each their own void, hm?

  14. Daredevils also have a lot of full-body animated moves, which don't seem to be affected, meaning that You could Bound and Vault around for two hours straight and only notice the perpetualus perpendiculatus upon taking Your hands off the keyboard.

    Galmac mentioned mounts, though, but mounts were always this way, no?

     

    Another detail I've noticed is that idle animations which use the entire body are perpendicular to the surface, but if the animation involves only the head (or potentially torso), the head attempts to stay as "normal" as the rest of the skeleton allows.

    It still _is_ misleading, even if not intentionally.

    As the Hanlon's Razor goes, however: "Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity."

    There's a myriad of such things floating around Tyria. The laughable part is that ANet is not fixing them, but articles on the Wiki list them as anomalies or pieces of Trivia.

     

    For the record, I like the currently available variant much more, because it looks more cohesive than the half-practical, half-fancy "mystery of the Shining Blade wardrobe" Anise is wearing. Or it could just be the hideous flap in front of her legs, and how many (light and heavy pants; medium coat) models are virtually unusable because of it.

     

    For the trigger-happy snowflakes: the quote is an idea, I'm not calling anybody stupid.

    I'm also aware that the beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Quit eyeing that Report button :X

  16. I do realize - as does Shad, for that matter - that this all is ultimately fantasy. Even the beauty I opened the discussion with, the Bright Inquisitor sword, sports spikes pointing towards the wielder, which is always a sign of a very _practical_ design.

    And there IS magnificence in utterly unreasonable things - the intricate patterns of almost literally blooming hilts, buildings constructed in virtually impossible shapes, hell, even corsets, and I wouldn't curse any women with that infernal iron maiden.

     

    But this is like making characters hold pistols by the barrel, 'cuz logic is just a social construct, anyway.

     

    On the other hand, WP mentioned in one of his videos that the devs claimed to not being too keen on digging into the old code, since it's much worse than the spaghetti people keep using as comparison. Could be that the sword wielding spot has been incorporated into many different things which would basically shatter the reality if ANet changed it?

     

    Then again, I can't imagine that in almost a decade nobody had brought this particular issue up, especially at the very beginning when the community wasn't as **UwU** as it is now.

     

    Also, found a broom and tried the female greatsword running, because it got me curious.

    Stuff's... not healthy, to put it lightly.

    ...and the reason for why we can't have nice things.

     

    Already seeing the colors on the official release page way before the content was up made me grin. "Feels Quel'thalas," I thought. "Feels home."

    Aaaand then I noticed how the sword on the preview was being held and my heart sank.

     

    Which got me thinking: "Why?"

     

    Pretty sure everybody held a sword in their hand. Or a broom. Or... anything.

    You see, the problem with this grip is that the point of balance of a sword tends to be very close to the crossguard/hilt of the sword (the thingy supposed to not let the opponent's weapon handshank You), because the blade is a gorgeously lightweight thing (unless it's whatever kitchenware the Vigil's Honor weapons are). This means that in order to control the murdering portion of the weapon - (mostly) the blade - the sword has to be held around that balance point, because the very idea of a sword is being nimble, able to adapt, which demands control, and the more difficult a weapon is to control, the more taxing the adaptation is.

    As such, the most prevalent way of wielding a sword is by holding it as close to the hilt as possible,

    in some cases with fingers even above/around the hilt for more blade control.

    Of course, this doesn't mean a sword can only be wielded in that one way, but we're looking for a general grip for most occasions. Any fancier maneuvers can be animated, after all, and the animations in Guild Wars [are utterly mesmerizing](

    ), so... do go wild! Pretty please!

     

    If we compare it to, say, axes, those are much more flexible in the "general" grip, because axe handles were in the vast majority made of wood - and, in-game, very few have any ornaments or other purely cosmetic nonsense added to their handles - and so almost the entire weight of the axe was the head, yet the same laws of physics apply - the closer to the point of balance the axe is held, the more control over the weapon the wielder has. The further away, however, the more raw damage swinging the axe would do thanks to how rotation works.

     

    So the idea of taking shortcuts came to mind - designating the same point on the weapon for every race to hold, so even norns and charrs can wield the same sword without clipping through half of it while not needing to scale the weapons up or down.

    Then I logged to test it and, although the count of usable swords went from ~20 to a decent ~60, it's still a sad amount, considering how many swords there are.

     

    Which is a crying shame, because the models themselves are beautiful, creative, and still much less bonkers than the usual fantasy weapons.

     

    So although I wouldn't mind knowing the rationale behind the astonishingly heartbreaking abominations such as

  18. Turns out the issue has nothing to do with movement skills as I first suspected. At least not one's own skills.

     

    The problem appears when an _enemy_ lands a movement-forcing CC on a character (of any profession; props for playing the Thief Master Class, though!).

     

    Before last patch, it occurred only if a lot of movement (should have) happened at the same time, and the client apparently fried in indecision.

    After the patch, every single form of these cardio reminders - from nightly Lego bricks to wheneverly encounters with legs of various counts and attractiveness - causes the glitch to surface.

  19. Nah, been happening way too much after yesterday's patch.

    I'd assume Daredevils (thieves in general?) are somehow special in this regard, since the rest of my characters don't suffer such severe cases of the legendary perpetualus perpendiculatus.

    'Till (if?) it gets fixed, changing Your character's form via a tonic, for example, seems to reset the model, getting rid of the bug, in case the weapon swapping doesn't work.

    Urine-poor luck, isn't it?

  20. No clue if the Destroyer of the Third Fortress' waves are meant to be this hideously powerful, but if not, do keep them this way, finally putting some "challenge" in the "challenge mode".

    The invisible waves Norfel mentioned also seem to not happen outside of melee range, as in the DotTF won't use them if it has to run to the target, since it seems to prioritize normal attacks. Or it could be not an invisible wave, but just the fire field. Hard to distinguish since everything is called "Incinerating Shock Wave".

    Also, one can tank each and every non-IK wave and still get the achievement "Killer Waves", with the Eligibility icon not going anywhere at any point. Tested by dying to the IK waves, the invisible waves, and face-checking the meteor waves spawned before the giant AoE nuke.

    Also, also, Crecia always keeps the DotTF in combat, which makes the achievement a sad joke, if it's intended.

     

    P.S.: Further research suggests that the challenge-modded .TF's after-wave fire fields are about as accurate as a professionally written horoscope, both in the area affected and the apparent longevity.

    Also noticed that Kasmeer's phantasms use her old model (flowing hair, Phoenix attire) instead of her new Regal gown/banged tail hairstyle look, but I've no idea how old this particular inconsistency is.

    P.P.S.: Even more research has found that the .TF's pulling attack has gotten the vague prophecy treatment as well, affecting a much larger area than the targeting zone indicates.

  21. I'm well aware there's a myriad of devils in the myriads of details involved in the process of creation, and as such each new piece of information about how stuff works is more than welcome.

     

    That being said, however, the final product is meant to be critiqued, and, hopefully, ultimately improved, because I can't quit singing praises for Tyria, which is the main reason for caring enough about such "small" things as this.

    So, to the matter at hand:

    **Why the flying hell does the human female version of "Shake It Off!" sound like it's said by some teenage drama's stereotypical main cheerleader antagonist?**

     

    This is the first thing that comes to mind, because April Stewart's work in lending her voice to the human female commander is absolutely magnificent in virtually every aspect, and I might be obviously biased, but I can't recall a single line that would feel out of place, which is naturally absurdly subjective, but considering she's been able to put a soul even into the horrifying writing of the core story is an astonishing achievement.

    That's why, upon creating a human female warrior a breath back, I'm quite confident a portion of my being unironically imploded when I heard the "Shake It Off!" line, especially since my previous two warriors were a female sylvari and a male charr, with Jennifer Hale's stoic, commanding shout, while Ron Yuan's deep, aggressive rendition fits the idea of pushing through _anything_ by sheer force of will perfectly. In comparison to these two - as I have no experience with other race/class combinations - the human female shout is a shout... or warrior-related... or a skill in the first place about as much as the Build "Templates" are templates.

     

    Which, however, raises the question: how did it get a pass into a release?

    I have absolutely no idea how the road to recording and implementing voice lines goes, but my current hypothesis revolves around the voice actors not being given proper context to the lines. At this conclusion I've arrived because of the quality of the actors' other work when compared to the off-feeling remarks, or, in some cases, entire characters, the best example of which is probably the original female charr voice actress Kate Miller. Looking through her IMDb page and performances unrelated to Guild Wars 2, the woman's not only an accomplished voice actress, but a full-body liar as well, and she sounds _believable_.

    Except for Tyria. Here she sounds like a rather disinterested third-grader reading some passage of a school-forced book to her class while trying hard to impress the teacher with her pronunciation and clear period distinction, but not having the slightest of clues as to what she's actually reading, so every single sentence bears the same tone, rises in the beginning and falls at the end, there is no emotion, no character, no nothing. Save for a well-read line. Ironically enough, this happens solely in the story (core and HoT; haven't found the mental fortitude to push into S3 with her yet), her open world character barks are grand (once more, no clue about the rest of the classes, since I only have a single femme charrtale engineer).

     

    Another reason I could understand, 'cuz _never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity_, is simple greed, so the actors get a list of lines, record them as quickly as possible, and the paychecks are happy, since what else is the gaming industry known for but limitless capitalism.

    This one I'm way less likely to accept, however, because the gem store still isn't being flooded with your typical Korean MMO outfits (read: new and creative ways how to hide the unspeakable, terrifying evil that is female nipples with as little material as possible). Almost to a fault, really, as outfits and armor pieces designed solely to be attractive are very rare, if they exist. But that's for another topic.

     

    Suma summarum: all of this is highly subjective. I get voice actors are still people, and people can have bad days, people can be difficult to work with, and people don't always understand other people. It's also understandable that a MMO protagonist has to be somewhat soulless, so they're liked by as many people as possible, because artists still have to eat, and the game already costing only what it does is a steal of a magnitude similar to CDPR's The Witcher franchise or anything coming from Supergiant Games.

    Once more, though, if anybody's more knowledgeable about how the sausage is made, so to speak, by all means, moar dataz always welcome.

    There's also a lot of things I haven't mentioned here for various reasons, so any other experience with different race/class commanders - or, of course, reasons why my particular perspective isn't exactly correct - does have the door open.

     

    Who knows, perhaps one day we can get Tyria as beautiful as she deserves to be!

    With no more pePegasucks griffon abominations, preferably.

    Same old problems I've been seeing brought up since the implementation of this buildshit.

     

     

    Switching "templates" (personally using only hotkeys, no clue whether there's a difference with doing it manually) sometimes results in:

    - utility skills being reset to their default positions (this particular thing happened to me on other characters as well, although at best once or twice in half a year, as opposed to almost every second log-in with a revenant)

    - a complete wipe-out of the current "template" - no legends, healing/utility/elite skills, or trait lines selected

     

    and switching gear sets (also tried solely via hotkeys) sometimes results in equipment's stats getting reset, and said piece requiring a manual selection again.

     

     

     

     

    As I recall, there had been many a complaint back at this bad joke of a feature's initial release about it actively deleting upgrades and/or gear itself, too, and since my financial status is not fit to casually double the price of Mystic Coins on a whim, I'd really hate to research said "feature" of this glorious EAnet stunt on myself, at least not without getting paid.

     

     

    Note: No hate on the devs, the feature's decent sans context. All undying hate on whomever let this go live triple-monetized, killed ArcTemplates, and completely ignored every breath of feedback given.

     

    The irony that exactly a class channeling the past legends of Tyria revolts against these AAA practices is quite remarkable.
