  1. **From my point of view:** Revenant was clearly designed by ANet to be the spiritual successor to the Ritualist and I think it's just wilful ignorance to think otherwise. It might not be so mechanically but that's because it had to be a soldier profession to complete the 3x3x3. It is anyway clear as day that this is the case. Any relation between ritualists and other professions before revenant was announced/released is just a lay-over from the fact that ANet put bits and pieces from GW1 professions that didn't make it into GW2 as their "own-thing". Once revenant came about though it was clearly design to be ritualist's successor, it even got a terrible spirit summoning spec... You can look into all the lore and history as much as you want but it really isn't that deep...

**I really wish someone from ANet could just come here and put a nail in the coffin of this debate and just tell the community what's what**

    > Purge Gyro needs a better tell. The actual gyro sprite is impossible to see in the heat of battle with tons of effects everywhere. It needs a display on the scrappers status bar like Soulbeast and warrior stances so you can see "Oh I shouldn't attack right now."

I like these sets of suggested changes, I'd also reduce the duration of superspeed from shocking speed **OR** shave a bit off the base heal on rapid regeneration.

I was excited to play scrapper again because I don't really like prot Holo but I do want a bunker option as an engineer but atm scrapper feels a bit dirty to play and when I queue as an engineer I always face at least 1 scrapper but mostly 2 + another bunker build (not rare to see a whole team of bunkers) on enemy team so they can pretty much lock down all 3 caps since no one has a solution to them yet or our team rarely has a comp that can deal with so many bunkers.

It feels like I'm gimping my team by queueing as an engineer but not playing a bunker scrapper so I'll probably give the rest of the season a miss.

    > Necro actually is okay right now as well, it's an "attack to survive" "land your stuff or die" class like Warrior but can be bursted much more frequent. The only thing making them really okay is that they contribute to the damage pool of the game and can really punish stability depending on the rotation in sPvP. They're actually okay right now even with z-axis teleports but again these teleports were never healthy for the game.

Ok, so you've told us why you think necromancer is balanced now tell us why you chose warrior?

I personally think balance in this game for this game mode is a fool's errand but anyway, I can entertain this.

For me necromancer is the most balanced because it has several builds that can be played effectively - I see effective and frequent use of core, reaper and scourge these days, although scourge is clearly ahead of the other two. Each have counters and counterplay, they are also not too underpowered or over powered. Not everything can be brought to the same level though as some professions excel at rolls necromancer never plays and necromancer excels at rolls some professions never play.

War is close but could easily become overpowered again, I think fc is too weak as it is and isn't doing what it was advertised as effectively but on the other hand defense war is on the borderline of broken and berserker isn't in a good place at all.

  4. With upcoming changes this discussion just became relavent. What if the function gyro acted as an f5 skill that changes all your toolbelt skills to different finishers performed by the function gyro as well as what it currently (barely) does.

So you'd have instant access to combo blast finishers for the fields, it would give clear synergy between the profession mechanic and the utilities, it would also free up your utilities to not be a gyro + something with a finisher you want because I'm assuming most scrapper builds with gyros will become like this.

  5. I'd like the block (duelist's preparation) on 4 back and say it blocks for a duration of say 3 seconds, the more attacks it blocks for that duration the more damage the follow up shackling waves could do (max being the current amount + pre-nerf cast time) but if you don't block anything and choose to use the follow up straight away then it should have reduced damage or deal less strikes

    Keep 5 as is.

  6. > @"Vagrant.7206" said:

    > Pistol 5 should grant slow on anybody it hits. Seems right, cuz it's glue.

Maybe not slow as this affects skills as well but cripple duration as well as imob replenished while within it would be appropriate. The cripple is enough.

    > Razzah: He could switch classes and of them wielded a scythe so GS isnt that farfetched aaaaand it fits revenant perfectly.

I hear Razah being thrown around a lot, although I did like Razah in GW1 and it would be cool to channel it. I mus ask what exactly did Razah do that would qualify it as legendary in Tyria's history? Why Razah and not any of the other companions we had?

    > The pistol and rifle are two of the most underused weapons out there. I can see a gunslinger elite, but won't guess the legendary stance to tap into.

    >

I could see pistol(s) or rifle being used with Cobiah Marriner (One of the founders of the modern Lion's Arch and the main character in the book "Sea of Sorrows") as a "Legendary Commodore/Pirate" spec I think he embodies the whole "Tyrias's races coming together" thing. You could easily theme some rifle/pistol skills around the cannons on a ship. I mean he has a statue with a sword but I think it's safe to say we can ignore statues.

  9. I also wish the dragons were less "human" in their behaviour but I also do remember in the early days of the game when the dragons presented as "forces of nature" and neither good nor evil a lot of people argued something along the lines of that they would not be good villains like those we saw in GW1 since they do not bring up any strong emotions from the players. Now at present we see the opposite complaint which just reinforces the idea that you can't please 100% of the people 100% of the time and those with a complaint are the most vocal at those times.

    > I would agree that we need more weapons but I do not think we will see new core weapons. They've stated that Elite Specs is how they want to add new weapons to a profession and I don't see them breaking from that just for one profession.

Rev literally got a new core in the trident...

  11. I do not understand why so many people complain about energy management. Energy management is supposed to be something you have to think about when playing the profession as it is a limiting factor by design, it was not intended to be there just for aesthetic purposes. If me or my build does not manage my energy well enough - it is not the profession mechanic's fault therefore I do not think it requires a rework like this.

    > I don't know why people thing revenant is hard to play. It's one of the easiest classes to play ever. It's so easy I figured it out day one. Unless you're trying to heal. Than it is difficult. But even that doesn't compare to scourge or healing scrapper.

Why do I always see you in these forums trying to put down rev and prop up necro? You're that guy that argues to death that Necro is the spiritual successor to the ritualist even though everyone not wearing a blindfold can see that the devs have clearly put rev in that position. Now you're trying to say scourge is more difficult than rev?? At this point I just feel like you might be trolling.

Back to the OP, I'd agree with the guy that said whatever you play least is the most difficult so for me that would be Elementalist, I've barely played any professions outside of {engineer, revenant, mesmer, ranger, guardian} and out of those not named elementalist is the most difficult for me.

I'd say overall the most difficult are Engineer, Elementalist and Revenant/Thief/Mesmer(these three are close) in that order although personally I don't find engineer that challenging but I main it, I do recognise that a majority of others find it challenging to play so I assume that there is truth in this.

I'd like to add that I also main revenant and I'd say that there is a large variation in the ability of players when they play a revenant, seeing how many people struggle with playing rev in pvp is testament to this. A lot of people pick up rev and think they know how to play it but they never actually use it to its full potential. So many non-rev mains under-estimate the legend Shiro because of its heal or the staff because of its lack of damage when in reality they are some of the best and most complete things about rev.

    > No, no it isn't. Revenant has little lore that works with ritualist.

    > In fact the magic that revenant uses is fairly common among professions now. Thief, Guardian, Necromancer all use mist magic.

    >What shadow stepping is is creating a portal through the mists. Looking it up. It is the same thing that revenant does.

If this magic is so common then why did it cause such intrigue among those that witnessed Rytlock use it for the first time? Why did Rox ask "what's that new magic you're using"?

Don't know what you mean by "mist magic", sounds like a made up term to prove a point but anyway. Magic falls into 4 classes and "each magic using profession also falls into one of these"(so all professions in GW2), they are: Preservation, Aggression, Destruction, and Denial. Specialisations (not Elite) hint at parts of a profession falling into one of these for example shadow arts (the source of the shadow stepping) from thieves is in Denial. It is not the same as creating a portal through the mists. There isn't a single thief skill or trait that says anything about the mists.

    >The Ritualist uses death magic. They are death mages.

Ritualists don't use death magic, they use channeling magic and restoration magic, their other trait lines are channeling and communing (which are terms that appear a lot in texts to do with revenants). They are not death mages.

You sound like you have no idea what ritualists are so here is their description.

_"Ritualists channel other-worldly energies that summon allies from the void and employ mystic binding rituals that bend those allies to the Ritualist's will. They hood their eyes to better **commune** with **spirits that grant great power and protection to Ritualists and their comrades.** The **energy** they channel drives Ritualist skills which enhance the deadliness of an ally's weapon and wreak havoc on an enemy's health. The Ritualist can also use the remains of the dead to defend the **living-not by reanimating corpses as a Necromancer would,** but through the ritual use of urns and ashes. Where the Ranger lives as one with the spirit world, the Ritualist can and will be its master."_

    >This is cannon.

    So no it's not.

    >Necromancers call spirits and can call into the realm of torment and underworld. But not hall of heroes to my knowledge. Which the ritualist couldn't call >into the hall of heroes either.

What's your point? It doesn't say anywhere that revenants can either so by your logic that should make them more similar right?

Oh and btw Necromancer's don't use spirits in combat!

    > I'd drop you a couple dozen links about necromancer design and lore,

Please drop these links because so far almost everything you've said sounds made up.

    >Revenant has one spell. They are hardly a magic user.

What does this even mean? Are you saying revenants have only one skill? Ritualists were hardly magic users either, the ritualist profession existed before the gods gave magic to the races and it was only amalgamated afterwards.

    >They have one spell and all other skills they low come from the channeled legend. They don't have the discipline in magic to do what ritualists do. In fact, summoning >spirits is a binding ritual in the lore. It isn't even magic. But we know

    >for a fact that the method Revenant uses to channel legends is a spell. Very different to how the ritualist preforms.

They have weapon skills not associated with any legend, only their utility skills come from a summoned legend... Since ritualists were able to do what they do before magic was given to the races, it is safe to assume that they had a way of reaching into the mists to get to those ancestors, who else has a reaching into the mist shtick? Oh yeah. REVENANTS. Starting to wonder if you know what revenants are either

_"Revenants have learned to commune with the Mists, a magical protoreality that makes up the fabric of space and time within the Guild Wars 2 universe. The Mists remember what came before, and echoes of those who left an especially powerful imprint on the world of Tyria can still be found there. A revenant calls upon these legendary historical figures, bringing them back into action to enhance the revenant's own abilities and power._

Necromancers use spells and magic to summon their minions and just about everything else too. What is the point you're trying to make here exactly?

    >And in the lore the necromancer has become more like ritualist than they were in gw1. You can read all about it >on the wiki, check it out on the website, read about it in >game and even participate in missions and events that show necromancers preforming rituals to calm and >summon spirits.

This was only done because at the launch of Guild Wars 2, the ritualist was not made to be one of the original professions. Pieces of it were taken and put into some of the 8 professions we got, yes Necromancer got some of that but so did the Guardian (**spirit** weapons) and Engineer (Spirits --> Turrets) but now we have the revenant.

  14. Engineer and Revenant about equally I have roughly the same playtime on both but since I have created 2 engineers as opposed to 2 revenants and can't get another char slot to get a 2nd rev yet, I'll go with engineer. I think the poll should include a "none" option for those that don't particularly main any one profession.

    >

    > Its worth noting that while Kalla herself has nothing to do with Elona or the Desert, she does fit in with the themes of PoF more broadly:

    > Kalla's legendary status among the Charr based around rebelling against unjust authority and overthrowing tyrants, particularly false or oppressive "gods", all of which mirrors the expansion storyline of first killing Balthazar and now trying to overthrow the tyrant and god-king Joko. In so far as a Revenant channels and embodies a legend's teachings and persona rather than merely using their powers then the Renegade fits in perfectly in Path of Fire and a PC renegade is actually following in Kalla's footsteps, just like the renegade we see in the Elon Riverlands who is helping the villagers against Joko's tyrannical awakened.

    >

    > Therefore to answer the OP there is no reason why Anet wouldn't add in a Norn legend provided they could find a way to make the personality/backstory of said legend fit into the themes of the next expansion, even if the expansion had little to do with Norn per se.

You've literally just repeated what I said in more words...

    >

    > -

Yes, I know war is supposed to play sides but so are druids, mesmers and some engi builds but out of all these four, I run into wars that flame/can't kite/don't rotate/cry outnumbered/don't look at map/some combination of the aforementioned more.

  17. Yeah I could write about the many terrible games filled with clueless flamers but I'd rather not.

I Had a game that was the most perfect game I've ever played, it was on Forest of Niflhel and it was this season. We had a thief, warrior, a mesmer, me on engi and a necromancer. Everyone on the team played their roles well that game.

The only things in chat were "inc x" warnings by teammates and **complements**(so rare these days). When someone needed a +1 the thief was there, when someone was in a 2 v 1 at sides, the team had the rest of the map. We did have a moment in the middle of the game where the enemy started to catch up because of deaths but the regroup was so seamless with no communication required. Obviously we won that game. I added everyone on that team to my friend's list so I remember who they are in future games and how well their season goes - we all seem to be bouncing around between plat3/2.

  18. My bet for the next legend is Asgeir and I don't think the legend has to be **directly** related to the expansion. As you said - what does Kalla have to do with Elona, Balthazar, the Crystal Desert, Kralkatorrik or anythng in the current story? I'm sure you could think of some half-baked reason to link Asgeir to any potential expansion/plot, the same way you can with Kalla.

  19. +1 for tubby too, he's hilarious.

just going to add one that hasn't been mentioned already

Edson plays rev pretty often although he multi-classes as well. Speaks Russian on stream but does reply to comments written in English in English.
