  1. I was told by ma guildies that the best runes for thief in pve are Scholar and metabattle says for WvW it's Eagle.

Do you think that I'd lose to much if I take Scholar for both PvE and WvW (or Eagle for both)?

What are the pros and cons?

    >

    > D/D sucks because ANet removed all the damage amp from the core thief in general and put it in the DrD and DE trait lines. Took the fangs mostly from core and generally speaking, hit D/x's sustained damage hard with the overall AA nerfs and removal of damage from CS in favor of EW for PvE.

    >

    > It's funny seeing the difference of opinion because PvE players say it's fine when it's atrociously bad in the PvP modes and is absolutely and totally eclipsed by D/P in every way now, with those two traitlines/builds having anti-synergy with D/D itself. It's viable in PvE which is good enough. PvP... it's dumpster-tier bad. One of the weakest builds/kits in the entire game.

    > Here's your D/D rework/fix, as suggested on repeat, for years: It needs one skill change pretty much to at least be PvP-usable.

    > > Death Blossom needs a rework. Fixed-distance dash evade 600 units with half duration currently, bleeds single-target in larger stacks at the end of the movement so that it won't reveal if used as defense while in stealth (like it currently does which actively works against power D/D). Can't be spammed this way for damage since you'll always be moving away and then dealing the damage, and encourages better spacing and non-spam by condi builds, while providing better mobility and fixes a lot of problems with escapees and disengage potential with power builds, and gets synergy with CnD for the condi variant.

    > >Drop the cost to 4 due to slightly higher dependence on CnD for optimized damage and lack of spammable PbAoE damage, since it no longer becomes a viable damage source like FS nor a true disengage like IS/IR on S/D, and this can keep condi playing in the same style as power by having it use CnD to reposition/gain distance, and strike again for the fixed-distance strike.

    > > With this, condi D/D now requires more skill and active initiative management, and now you've got a consistent performer across power/condi and D/D actually has some synergy and value across its skills for both builds. Power gets buffed in mobility and sustain which it desperately needs.

See you did your homework. Interesting idea although I am not a big fan of the Death Blossom rework as I don't think it'd be useable in PvE (and I am a fan of power builds, so bleed is meh). Maybe some kind of spin move would work (spin in place for idk about 0.5s, do damage and get a small evade)? Would work in PvE as cleave as well as work in PvP because I'm guessing you could use it after porting to your enemy?

PoE had an interesting skill called Blade Flury or something like that. Channel and get dmg reduction (maybe block) and if you block/get hit you do more damage.

That's a solid suggestion but kinda still doesn't solve the problem of daggers having little to no cleave, which is needed in fractals and places where adds are a thing

  4. Do you think it's possible to get a rework for D/D?

Imo it's one of the most underwhelming in PvE and PvP/WvW. Maybe add more cleave or range to daggers so we can get a build that's viable in fractals?

Back when I had just started the game I fell in love with thief and D/D in particular. But over time I realised just how trash it is compared to staff DD (I'm talking about PvE). Compared to other classes thief just doesn't have any build variability (again, mostly PvE)

  5. I got back in gw2 a while ago and can't seem to make up my mind about whether to play dps chrono or weaver. I like chrono as its a bit easier and forgiving to play. But I also dabble in WvW a little (mostly roaming) and I can't seem to make it work.

On the other hand I also like weaver for its theme, but it's really unforgiving and hard to play.

Usually I play mages and assassins so this is where my problem with no lt being able to decide is coming from

  6. I came back to gw2 some time ago, think it was a few days after the big February 2020 patch/rework. Since then I kept seeing stuff on reddit and the forums that chronomancer is useless or at least bad and that I'm better off playing ele.

When I came back I played weaver for some time, tried chrono and didn't like the changes at first but slowly got used to them and I don't really see that much difference now (except the merging of f4 and f5). On snowcrows and metabattle power chrono even has one of the highest DPS so I really don't get it... Is it just me or is chrono fine? Just wish there was a WvW build for it.

  7. The question has be bugging me lately and it's gotten to the point where I spend most of my ingame time by switching from chrono to weaver and back. I'm focused on open world, fractals and wvw (altough I want to raid at some point). In other games I generally play mages or assassins which really doesn't help in gw2 because I see both elite specs as kind of assassiny mages...

Can you please help a fellow gw2 player make up his mind?

  8. I see staff DD being used mainly in PvE (it sucks in PvP or WvW roaming cuz it's kinda a slow weapon that a good player can play around), d/d DE seems nice but again is kinda meh in PvP or WvW as you have even less mobility than core Thief and core Thief seems to not work in PvE anymore cuz it's being overshadowed by both specs. Sure it might work in Open World but Raids and Fractals seem to be a no go.

Is there even such a thing as a good all-around build?

  9. I can't decide which spec to main. I love the rogue archetype in most MMOs but Gw2 has a weird take on rogues/assassins.

There's Daredevil which uses staff which I kinda don't like and then there's Deadeye which is kinda like a sniper (there's a d/d build) that I somewhat like but has less mobility which I also don't like. I'm torn and need help.

I'm mostly a PvE player but I also dabble in some WvW (mostly roaming).

  10. Thief is probably my favorite profession, the only thing I don't like is the incosistency of builds for Thief.

What I mean by this is staff DrD is apparently the best for PvE but shit for PvP/WvW (apparently ok in zergs but meh roaming), D/D Deadeye is good in WvW but meh elswhere...

Is there a build that I could use in every mode without having to switch weapons and trats all the time? Preferably s/d or d/d?

  11. Getting bored with Thief (didn't know it was mostly a PvP class and I don't like staff). So I'm thinking of making either a s/s Revenant (either Herald or Renegade) or s/d Weaver. I don't really like condi builds so I'm talking about power rev/weaver.

Which has better DPS and is all around more usefull in PvE (both raids/fractals and open world) and WvW?

  12. I recently got back into Gw2 and was having a blast in Open World and some WvW, but recently I remembered why I stopped playing.

I usually play assassins in MMOs so ofc I mained Thief for quite a while. But I realised just how underwhelming they are... Their damage is meh, usefulness in PVE is kinda trash etc.

So I'm thinking of starting a new profession. Was looking into s/s Revenant (Herald or Renegade), s/dWeaver or axe/x or gs Mirage (really dislike condi builds but I can make an exception for Mirage).

I need something that is usefull in almost every game mode (don't really care about Pvp, mostly play PVE and WvW), What do you guys recommend?

  13. I've been playing thief for a long time and still have a blast while playing, but I feel like I'm not as good in raids, fractals etc. I felt like the only usefull build is staff DD. which I don't really like (I'm more of a D/P player). So I made a revenant. And god is PvE fun now. I feel like I'm actually doing stuff (with thief all I could do was burst). Though when I WvW I feel the dmg on rev is slower/lower and I kinda miss the mobility which also isn't as great as on thief.

Could you guys help me decide which to main? Ty.

  14. I am also a thief main and imo the classes that come close to thief are Mesmer, Rev and Ele. I haven't tried Engi yet, but I hear it's also fast paced and rewarding.

Out of those 3 professions I found Mesmer to be the easiest to play. Ele was the hardest (I only played S/D Weaver though).

For me Rev was the most fun class out of these 3, at least in PvP and WvW (right after Thief ofc)

  15. I've been playing S/D for some time now, but recently switched back to D/P and ohh god was it frustrating.

They way I see it though with D/P you have a high risk, high reward playstyle and a lot more mobility while S/D is a bit safer and feels slower in my opinion.

I mostly play WvW and PvP right now.

Wanted your guys thoughts on both and maybe some pros/cons or recommendations.

    > I'll admit.. I have not noticed any significant difference between Male Sylvari and Male Human Animations, what is it that the Sylvari do that the Humans Don't, that bug you?

Well for starters their running animation feels like they're running on their toes and it gets a little bit annoying :P

  17. I have 2 lvl 80 Thieves, but can't decide which one to "main".

I love playing orc, elves etc. in other games and I love almost everything about Sylvari, but male Sylvari animations kinda bug me and I don't like to play as humans, but human Thief looks alright.

    > Daredevil and core thief were both very much viable for open world content; heck, DD was somewhat easier than some other professions **cough** elementalist **cough** when I was running around in HoT and so on, and doing personal story missions, including the painfully challenging ones.

    >

    > Mesmer is absolutely viable everywhere, and highly desired in all content, though the specifics of the role they are wanted for vary, and "support" roles are popular in raids. It has high mobility, good damage options, can be power or condition, and generally ticks your boxes. It has somewhat straightforward basic damage stuff, but a high skill cap.

    >

    > Engineer definitely qualifies for the "skill required" part, and the mobility, but I'm not sure you would enjoy because ... of something. I'm not sure why I have that impression.

    >

    > You might like Ranger, where your pet can do a bunch of tanking, making a lot of PvE content vastly more trivial. With Soulbeast you can also return a dead pet to life in what feels like a cheating fashion, by merging and unmerging a couple seconds later, making your pets effectively immortal.

    >

    > I'm pretty confident you do not want elementalist (if thief is not open-world viable, ele definitely isn't for you), or necro (it's pretty solid, but unloved in popular opinion, and lacks good mobility options).

Didn't mean that Thief wasn't viable in Open World (maybe I shoul've specified that :P), I was thinking more about raids, dungeons, fractals etc.

Mesmer and Engineer sound nice, gonna check them out. Ty

  19. I have a lvl 80 Thief and a lvl 80 Spellbreaker. I love Thief, but seems it's only good in PvP and somewhat in WvW. PvE seems to be a no go. Still getting used to Spellbreaker though.

But I was thinking of making another profession, so what profession is viable in all game modes and is fun (I know this is subjective, e.g. I find mobility, damage and classes that require at least some skill fun)

  20. Been going trough a few builds for the Thief and found out about the S/D core. I've been having luck with it in PvP, but in WvW it seems lackluster. Can't burst for a lot of damage so usually what I do is burst to 50% hp if I'm lucky and then have to run. Can't even solo a camp (or at least can't do it fast).

If I remeber correctly when I started playing WvW I played Staff DD and it seems like I have been having more luck with it.

So which build would be better for WvW (mostly roaming)? I know Staff DD PvE is considered great, but I heard that it sucks in PvP and WvW. Is it that bad?

  21. I've been getting into PvP and WvW with Thief a lot. A guildie told me to try out S/D Thief and it was great, but I kinda started missing the 3 evades plus the Unhindered Combatant trait.

Looked trough a page called Metabattle and couldn't find a S/D DD build and was just wondering why. DD trait gives you some damage from Havoc Mastery (or you could take Brawler's Tenacity for more heals), condi removal when evading with Escapist's Absolution (with DD and Signet of Agility you basically get around 4 dodges) and Unhindered Combatant gives a longer dash + condi cleanse (or you could go Bounding Dodger for more damage). So was thinking you could just swap Acrobatics for Daredevil.

The way I see it Daredevil gives you way more survivability and damage than Acrobatics, but then again I'm still kinda a noob thief so I'm looking for someone who could explain this.

  22. So I've been playing this game for more than a month now and after weeks of leveling interesting proffesions I finally found my favorite: the Thief.

I finished both Thief Elite specialisations and have been switching between them like crazy.

I love the mobility of DD, but it feels just like a normal thief with extra dodges and nothing else really. The staff rotation feels kinda boring. I also kinda miss stealth since you kinda have 0 stealth skills as DD (depends on build).

Then there's DE... I've been playing WvW with a friend and have been having a blast with DE. I love the feeling and the stealth, but when I try to 1v1 it can be really frustrating because of the limited mobility.

So to help me decide which Spec I wanna "main" I wanted to ask you guys what your favorite Elite spec for the Thief are and why.
