Housing would be new content, technically. Just not new content _you're_ interested in.

That's okay. Not everyone likes everything. But I wouldn't deny someone else something just because I personally don't want it.

    > "_Player housing has been developed, but didn't make the cut this expansion. It's been postponed as the big selling point for the next possible expansion. This would've included us being able to customise a large plot of land, which acts a lot like current Guild Hall decoration. We could choose the spots of our resources, and it will make a lot of use of Scribing. You'd get a lot of basic decorations to start with, but if you want to spend a ton of money and resources on it, you can do it._"

    > As I stated earlier, the whole post must be looked upon as rumors and speculations, as most of it didn't come to pass - but keep in mind that a few details in all the fake news were actually accurate, so you best decide for yourself whether you want to put your hopes up for housing. ;)

Where is this person getting his information from? To me, the post looks like he is just pulling things out of the air, but I'll be honest and say I don't really know anything, so my opinion and two copper gets you two copper.

I would love this to be true.

I would love to hear them say they were adding housing. To me, that would lock in my loyalty to GW2.

    > As someone who has done RPing I am a bit lost on the request. Can someone expand a bit on why it is needed that is not already done better elsewhere like guild halls or the existing home areas (either instanced or not)?

Because not everyone is in a guild.

Because housing is personal, as opposed to a guild hall which belongs to the group or (more accurately) the guild leader.

Because it gives every player, solo and group players, something else to do.

Because it is something else to be worked toward. It is a gold sink, a time sink, and a potential cash shop sink. For a game that lives and dies on its cash shop, that in itself should be enough of an argument for housing.

    >

    > All premade, in the sense that there is no matchmaking. That said, for things like fractals, bounty trains, world bosses, etc, it may as well be random: there won't be an interview waiting for you on the far side, just click and go, more or less. The exceptions to that general rule happen at the top end of T4 fractals (especially challenge modes), and around raids, basically the highest end of PvE content.

Too bad about no matchmaking, but glad to hear that people aren't being terribly elitist about it either. WoW has a problem with that in premades.

Too bad it doesn't teleport you to the instance. That always was a nice convenience.

    > I'm afraid to report that instanced content is comparable, or worse than, open world content. Most significant attacks are on around a three second timer

Three seconds? Oh, that's just fine. I can get out of the way of a three second attack, as long as the AoE isn't huge and I'm in the centre of it. Been trying it out in FF14 and haven't had a large problem with it yet.

    > That said, what sort of latency are we talking here?

700-1100 ms, depending on the amount of traffic. Satellite internet. Life in rural America is beautiful, but we have to put up with rotten internet.

  6. Is LFG all premade or is there random matchmaking? I've always been shy about applying to groups. So WoW and FF14's random matchmaking was a God-send to me. :)

Second question. I see people always taking about the need to dodge and move out of the way, etc. How twitchy is GW2? I have extremely high latency and wonder about being able to get out of the way of attacks. WoW was pretty merciful with that. In GW2, I seem to get hit an awful lot, but I've never done a dungeon, so maybe it was just outdoor stuff where you have less time to move maybe?

  7. Given that one of the questions that gets asked a lot is "What is there to do at endgame," I've always wondered why housing hasn't been implemented.

A lot of people seem to like it, it's certainly something to grind for.

Is the community here against housing? Is ANet? Is the engine not capable?

  8. Strange question, but one I am serious about.

I'm asking this question of both Final Fantasy XIV and Guild Wars 2, because I'm tired of WoW and what seems to me to be the arrogence of the developers there. (Plus the art style is one level above a crayon. haha)

I am trying to decide whether to go for either FFXIV or GW2. I don't have the ability to dedicate myself to more than one game.

I have tried both out. Each has positives and negatives.

But what I want to know is: Who will be around for the long run?

Guild Wars 2 has a hard row to hoe being Buy to Play. Their financials make me wonder if it will still be around, putting out new content in a few years.

Final Fantasy XIV has the advantage of a subscription, meaning more incentive to keep investing in it as long as the profit is there. Questions is: Is the profit there?

    So thoughts?
