  1. I like how the game doesn't force me to do things with other people. In other MMOs, you're dependant of other players, but if those players don't want to play with you, the game becomes unplayable. So I like the Guild Wars general approach. Play alone (or with NPCs if you count GW1) and play with others if you want to. No one depends on anyone and no one ruins anyone else's fun. That said, I still like seeing other people and talking to them, or even doing things with them as long as they're not content rushers/elitists, etc.

  2. I'm on the opposite side actually. Events have become too easy and now anyone rarely fails them. A bit of "oh will we make it?" tension is good to spice up the events, imo. But that tension is gone because now no one fails Dragon's Stand or Octovines anymore. They don't need to be super hard as in we can't complete them unless we do everything 100% right, but killing octovines, Blight Towers and Mouth of Mordremoth in one go is certainly too easy.

  3. Too many people here think that you need to have an objective or to accomplish something with a new race or it has no purpose and because they think that, it shouldn't be added. I don't like raids, strikes and I think legendaries were a mistake, but you don't see me complaining all day on the forum about it.

A new race is FUN. Games don't need reasons to add another race. What, WoW or other MMOs couldn't live without, draenei, blood elf, werewolf, panda and who knows what other race they added? No, they added it because they're part of the Warcraft lore and because people might like it. Same for Tengu, they've been here since Guild Wars 1 and they have their own lore and can have their own story.

Too many people in this game think that everything that's added to the game needs to have an accomplishment, reward or something. No, some people just want tengu (or any other race) because it's fun and adds to the game story/lore.

Combat tonics instead of a race? Same I can say about any game content. You want raids? Go fight random NPCs in world instead. You want PVP? Do old pvp and forget about new pvp modes.

Each person has its own idea of fun in a game. That doesn't mean you need to trash what someone else wants.

  4. Or even better, we should just get all the game content as soon as we create our character and log in, at level 1. Free mounts, free masteries, free gear, free everything, without moving at all from the starting zone. /end of sarcasm

Yeah, maybe the game just isn't for OP if he has so many complaints about it. Guild Wars has always been a story focused franchise.

  5. I'd like that too, but unfortunately it wouldn't work. That's because most probably only flamers would join so instead of a good communication it would be just a spam chat like on streams, only that everyone would complain that Guild Wars 2 is bad and how they think they have better ideas than ArenaNet.

If people would be more civilized and would have happy/nice talks, then yeah, I'd totally be up for something like that.

  6. 8/10

Yeah, I know I'm the minority, but I kind of enjoy the Icebrood Saga. I don't get why so many people don't like it.

I don't really have any complaints about anything up to Champions. And when it comes to Champions, my only complaint is that they split it into chapters and now each chapter is a bit short.

Dragon Response Missions are ok in my eyes, I do 2-3 of them each day ever since they came out. They are like mini story-dungeons to me and the fact that they aren't too difficult is a plus, I don't like difficult content, it would create more toxicity in the game if they were as hard as strikes or raids.

I also like where the story is going, I expected Jormag to be an enemy from the begging and not an ally.

What I've always liked in this game the most are the story, world bosses, metas and just doing random stuff through the world.

I'm not into farming for achievements or high rewards, getting legendaries, doing strikes and raids. Maybe that's why I like it while others don't, dunno.

  7. Most people have already mentioned what I'm about to say, but I'll still say it:

    - The fact that there's no gear grind once every three months, like in other MMOs. You gear up with the gear you want once and that's it.

    - The game's story is good (not everyone might agree on this one though). The game is fully voiced and is story-focused, unlike other MMOs where stories are not voiced, not very serious or they just exist for the sake of introducing a new dungeon, new gear or whatever. Here, the story matters as much as the rest of the content.

    - General friendly community. This changed a bit with the arrival of raids and strike missions, but as long as you avoid those, the community is still pretty much friendly as ever. You can start a random chat with people, you can get people to help you in-game, etc.

    - World Bosses and Metas - I think this is what I love the most about the game. Boss battles in Guild Wars 2 are not stiff like in other games (boss would stand in one place and everyone just hits him until he drops dead) and aren't 1 hit death boss battles either (like make one mistake and the whole party is wiped, like in other MMOs).

Each boss has its own mechanic and many bosses are animated, aren't sitting in one place (for example Claw of Jormag, moves from one spot to another, flies, etc. ; Shatterer performs various pleasantly animated attacks and he also flies at one point, Mouth of Mordremoth moves all over the place, doesn't sit only in one spot...and many more).

In many bosses or metas, while they aren't "you get hit once, everyone dead" style, you still need to learn what to do and cooperate with everyone in order to win, which I totally love. In my opinion, Guild Wars 2's way of handling world bosses and metas is better than in other MMOs because as long you can cooperate with people and learn mechanics, you can take down the enemies. It's not a DPS fest where you can't participate because you don't hit 1000000000 dps per second, like it is in Tera or Runes of Magic for example. It's a way to make people enjoy the events while also not being annoyed.

  8. Everything you said is subjective, especially the PVE part.

PVE: I like it because it's EXACTLY different from how other MMOs do it. I don't wanna farm my brains out for 3 months to get max gear, then get new gear and have to farm my brains out again and so on, like it is in other MMOs. Same with level cap. I'm fine increasing masteries instead of new max level every expansion. You want the game to be another grind fest full of elitism and toxicity like WoW/TERA/*insert any other dungeon/grear based MMO*? If Guild Wars 2 also had these, I wouldn't even play it. We already have Raids (which I personally think were a mistake because they brought toxicity to the game), which I never touch because of how toxic people doing those are. It's more than enough.

You said that the game has no PvE content. I kind of disagree, because I always find things to do in-game, even if we ignore dungeons and such, there are still so many stuff to do.

We have a few raids, a few strikes, a few DRMs, content for every type of person. Also, what exactly is "abandoned content" for you? They'll probably add a new raid at one point, maybe even a new strike, but I feel like people want them to add a new one every month. I don't see how people would be able to do that many raids, it would be an overkill. The only games that add new raids every 1-2-3 months are the ones that are gear focused. Is this game gear focused? No, so that kind of drops the point of having a Raid spamfest.

PvP: The game has several PvP modes, I don't see where the problem is. Sure, a new PvP mode every 2-3 years or so would've been nice, but oh well. They could improve a bit here.

WvW: A new WvW map would be welcome, but that's about it. More than that I cannot comment since I don't do WvW that much (I join maybe a few times per year).

Most of the complaints on the forums are how Guild Wars 2 isn't like other MMOs where you constantly grind for level and gear. This maybe just means the game isn't for you. That doesn't mean the whole community agrees. Arena Net has their own vision of the game (it's their game after all) and the game mostly caters to casual people instead of people who prefer hard content and constant gear farming. I mostly like the game the way it is.

    > >

    > > I think they are a totally different thing, they shouldn’t be compared at all to Raid or Strike Mission.

    >

    > Why shouldn't they be compared?

Because not everyone likes raids and strikes. If for example DRMs had the same difficulty as raids or strikes, I wouldn't even touch them. I'm kind of glad they added something that everyone can participate in, instead of adding elitism content, which I'm personally running away from ever since I stopped playing other games that were focused on such content. The game has content for everyone, I don't know why people aren't satisfied. Not every piece of content in the game is supposed to be done by every person in the game. Raid and Strikes are a proof of that.

  10. The game is alive and well, but for various reasons, people tend to say it's dead.

The game isn't actively being marketed, like other MMOs (you never see ads or stuff like that for Guild Wars 2 for example). Also there are a lot of people that have something against the game because it doesn't follow the traditional MMORPG route. This game is not gear and level based like other MMOs (you don't get new gear and new level every new patch for example). People on the forum complain too, but they don't represent the majority, as most people that actually enjoy the game are in-game, playing, instead of being on the forums.

As one of those active players, I still see tons of players every day and I never once thought "pfff I wanna do X or Y content and there aren't any people for it", I always find people to do the things I want and there are lots of people on all maps, especially higher level ones.

Enjoy the game and don't let anyone else ruin your fun, best advice I can give you.

    >

    > Just saying, his point is that happy players are actively playing the game, while unhappy players come to vent. This extends so far that even players who are NOT active decide to come vent on the forums or continue to spread their displeasure while having 0 active stake in the game. Which gives a very skewed view of how players in game and on the forums actually experience the game.

    >

    > This game could be on an all time high, but having unhappy ex players cloud the forums with their complaints will make it seem as though the game is about to close shop. This is valid for pretty much all MMORPGs and their forum communities because there is always players leaving and players joining (or returning).

I'm one of those happy players that really loves the game and has almost zero complaints about it. But whenever I say that, people on the forum bash me for it, like "don't talk if you don't wanna complain about the game and have only nice things to say!"

I never really understood why people are always all doom and gloom on the forums. So many people play the game. No matter on which map I go, I always see tons of players. So no, the game is not dying and has a future. Yeah, it would be nice for the game to have all the features literally every player wanted, but that's not realistically possible. In the end it's ArenaNet's game and they can add or remove what they want. I enjoy the universe as it is, not thinking "I would like them to add this, I want them to add this, the game is dying because I don't have what I want". I always look forward to see what ArenaNet brings to the game in each patch, how the story develops, etc.

And many people are like me, more than the ones that complain.

People that complain indeed seem to be people that just can't let go of the game. I played TERA for 4 years and I really loved the game, but the toxic community was too much for me and in the end I had to let go of the game, for my own sake. But it took me a long time and until I managed to do it, I always complained exactly like this: "aaa tera is bad, aaaa bad community, bad gearing system, low population, etc etc".

Maybe it's the same situation here, because I don't see why someone would always post doom and gloom topics on the forum, when in my eyes Guild Wars 2 is such a great game.

    > > I don't have any of those issues, I even went out of my way one day and checked all the maps that people mentioned to be "laggy and unplayable". Everything runs super smooth anywhere in the game for me. Makes me wonder if some people maybe have bad internet or bad PCs and just blame Arena Net for no reason.

    >

    > Let me guess, you are on NA. The issues are mostly EU related.

No, I'm from Central Europe. And I've done this test across all maps, did events flew around, spent like 1 hour on each map or so. No issues. Plus some of the maps are maps I visit almost daily (Dragonfall, Jahai Bluffs, Kourna, Bjora's Marches, Drizzlewood) and spent hours on each of them.

  13. To be honest, the move is a good one, but the game will be poorly understood.

What I mean by that is that from what I have seen, ever since 2015, many people perceive the game as a free to play game, when the game is actually letting people trying out the base game for free instead of paying for it, like in was in the past.

This has led many people saying "Guild Wars 2 is a free to play, pay to win game" and from what I've seen in some of the curators posts on Steam, they share the same oppinion. This might affect the game negatively. The "free to play, pay to win" type of games are so many these days that many people assume that if a game has paid content, it's automatically pay to win. Pretty sure most people that have never heard of Guild Wars 2 or never tried it, will just assume the base game was always free to play and that the paid content is a "locked content in order for Arena Net to get more money, pay to win game, yada yada" without even searching to see that the base game wasn't initially like this.

So while Steam might improve the population a bit, it might have an overall bad impact because it will further spread the oppinion of those people who think that Guild wars 2 is a pay to win game. I'm neutral towards this Steam thing, but the negative impact it might have on the game worries me.

  14. My main character is charr. My character isn't me, but with both Guild Wars 1 and Guild Wars 2, I've been invested in the game story. For me the game's story and characters are something similar to watching a movie I like, I wanna know how the story develops and what happens next. That's why I just go with the flow and I usually don't care about the direction the story goes in. You can't change a movie creator's plot while watching a movie and same applies for me with the story of the Guild Wars franchise.

  15. I tried this today and while it works without glitches, I can't say that I see any difference in both minimum and maximum FPS. When doing Death Branded Shatterer, the Steel warband phase in Drizzlewood and other taxing metas, the FPS still goes down to 14-15 if the map is full. Had some hope that frames in metas with gazillions of peope might become better, but didn't happen.

My PC is Ryzen 5 1600x, RX 580 8GB and 16 GB dual channel RAM at 2666 mhz. Playing on max settings.

  16. I used to play World of Warcraft, Runes of Magic and Tera for like 3-4 years each game (while also playing Guild Wars 1 and later Guild Wars 2) and those games were all about doing dungeons non-stop in order to get the best gear, only for your gear to become meaningless after 3 months when a new patch with new gear would come. Then you would have to farm again only for a new patch to come and then all your work would go to waste...and so on.

I eventually got tired of this system and stopped playing gear-based MMOs. Yeah, it's nice to feel overpowered for a few months, but the mega grind and the toxicity of such games (players that have the best gear in these games are the most toxic people because of ego boost) aren't worth it. Those kind of gamers require such a grind for gear that they basically become a second job. I'm looking for fun in games, not for a second job...too bad I realized it after wasting like 10 years on this kind of MMOs.

Guild Wars 2 on the other hand will leave everything as you left it if you don't have time to play. You're tired after work and don't feel like playing? Good, you can play tomorrow. In gear based MMOs, not playing for one day felt like I was losing game progress, so I felt forced to play even when I didn't really want to do it. That doesn't

happen here. When I play, I know I do it for fun, not because the game's system forces me in order to not feel like I'm wasting time.

This is the reason why the Guild Wars franchise will be the last MMO(s) that I'll ever play. All the other MMOs are toxic because most of them are gear based and they drive out the worst behaviour out of people. Heck, there are people in gear-based MMOs that don't even talk to you because they think it's not worth it talking to someone that doesn't have gear as good as them (happened often in TERA).

So yeah, Guild Wars 2 is good as it is.

  17. I'm playing since 2013 and I tried to get people into Guild Wars 2 too a lot of times, but each time people didn't want to because of reasons like "I prefer classic quest system" or "The game doesn't have gear farm, I want to farm gear to feel overpowered".

In the end it's not the game itself, but the audience to which the game appeals. A lot of people want to play games where you grind for gear. I was like that too for a long time, but I eventually got burned out from farming gear just to have it until next patch comes and then farm all over again because my gear became irrelevant (TERA, WOW, Runes of Magic were like that, played the games for a few years each).

This game is for people that want to enjoy exploration, open world events, don't wanna constantly farm for gear, want a game with a good story (I know this one is debatable). But some people want games where they constantly grow in level and constantly have to get new gear. It appeals to the human nature of always improving and/or being better at something than those around you.

All in all, Guild Wars 2 is a good game, but it is not made to appeal to absolutely every MMO player out there. And I know, it's sad because a lot of times people don't wanna join because of that.
