The notifications when there is an upcoming sale is on the second page of the login screen. There is no need for intrusive ingame messages suggesting you buy from the gems store. Perhaps you say that you don’t read it. Well if you don’t read that will you actually read an ingame message about the gemstore when you’re trying to play.

The cash cost of Gems hasn't increased since launch. That's pretty fair.

The Gold-to-Gems feature really allows acquisition at no real money cost (to those using it); in essence 'free'.

If a player never used the Gold-to-Gems feature before the sale, then they wouldn't be aware of the '30%' increase; if they are aware of the '30%' increase, then they are familiar with the Gold-to-Gems feature.
