It's not as stable as you would imagine, and it robs you of your capability to move quickly. For someone like myself who has a stable standing stance and steady hands, kneeling is actually objectively worse because it adds more moving parts to a transaction that is very simple at its core. Either you hit the deck to shoot, or you stay on your legs to keep moving quickly. Kneeling is only used when you have sufficient cover, and laying down is impossible.
