So why exactly can't we have bigger capture points?

AoE spam is the cancer besides condi spam. We are not playing the game by watching our enemy. Instead we are playing GW2 dance fever that watch and jump around red circle on the ground.

 

No matter pvp or wvw, the increasing amount of aoe and effectiveness is slowly pushing the game off a cliff. PvP point size is mostly okay, but I don’t mind a slightly larger mid point. Truth is AoE spam is a bigger problem at the moment.
