Why would I us a Gift of wood (legendary item) to build an exotic item? This seams like a waist of materials.

It's a unique skin and it's not the first unique, non-legendary item that requires a "Gift of [...]".

Gift of wood isn't even that expensive, there are exotic skins on the TP that are a lot more expensive than a Gif of Wood.

Any Item that requires some legendary gift should be ascended. In my opinion.

We should love gold sinks too, how else do you think we would be able to afford anything? If no materials have any value anymore then items like the chak egg sac become the only sources of real income and everything will pretty much turn into premium content only available to the rich.

It's a one-time cost to produce an unlock for a skin; the actual armor is incidental. While it's true that the costs are commensurate with crafting ascended, there are plenty of skins in the game that cost more.

 

That said, in ANet's shoes, I would have invested a "Gift of Glass" instead of a Gift of Wood.

so I take it you would be ok, if Anet made a new exotic gift of wood, that has the same material requirements and used it for this rexotic helmet?

I would have been more okay with it if it were ascended
