Newly returned player ... what's best to be doing?

Recommended Posts

I've been away from the game most of this year. If I remember correctly, I got a bit frustrated with the emphasis on jumping puzzles and avoidance mechanics in fractals, and was bored with the 'jungle' battles. But I'm prepared to give it a fresh look, particularly since I find myself with 5 fully equipped lvl80 professions. So, where to begin? Or more to the point: where to continue? What are my options? BTW, must I find a guild?

A good guild for whatever mode you play is of course excellent. Meeting new people, easier to organize groups for fractals etc. I would bookmark gw2timer, do metas like Teq, Auric Basin., Triple Wurm etc If you want to farm gold, then SW chest farming is still the best way to go, netting around 15g+ an hour. If you have played POF, well definitely buy it, complete the story line, get all your mounts etc.

One POF meta I would add in is the Casino Blitz, at the end of this easy event chain there's a Choya Pinata and it has a very, very small chance to drop an extremely rare infusion worth 5 figure gold. LW4 Istan map also has 1 meta there that's decent. Speaking of Living World, I would buy any that you've missed, especially lW3 for easy ascended trinkets.

WvW still has plenty of people, SPVP queues are still low and worth it to at least get the last chest once for a free ascended piece, transmutes and some handy side gold.

Wintersday is good to farm boxes, if you are good at the jumping puzzle it's very nice gold/hr if you can stand doing it over and over - even take the easy path and it's only like 3min per go.

Other than that, if you have 5 fully geared profs I'd personally do the other profs too so you have ultimate variety. Get both elite specs for each unlocked - it's quite quick these days. There are lot more achievements out there as well to hunt down.

To add onto Despond's words - you do NOT have to play HoT to get the HoT Elite professions. I am saying this because it _seems_ to me that is what caused you to nope out in the first place. You can actually unlock your elites by doing World versus World through Skirmish chests. It is exactly what I did for my Druid, because I _really_ had issues with HoT too. Which, while it is is very beautiful and interesting, the verticality (So not a word!) was very difficult for me to handle due to getting motion sickness, so I needed to do the alternative.

Other things you can do in GW 2

* Raise Rank in WvW

* PVP

* Complete all: Dungeons, maps you enjoy

* Join a Guild _I am adding this on here, though it seems from the question 'must i find a guild' it almost seems like you don't want to join one. Which is totally FINE, you do not have to join a guild. However, if you did - find one that is active and kind of does a little bit of everything, so that way you can have someone to play with when things either get a bit too much and you need some backup, gets too boring, or just because. I lone wolfed the entire core game up until Arrah, so I understand the siren's call to just do it on your own. But if you can find a good guild, you can still do it on your own - but you can also find guildies who will be there for you if you need them. (Also it can be fun just to do silliness and other things together with guildies).

I know that Despond said most of these things, but I did want to add on about the Elites and other thoughts, and about joining the guild.

Welcome back to the game.
