I'm a WvW and PvP enthusiast so yeah... Carrion is crafted from 5 patches plus ancient bones. Dire is salvaged from dire gear, typically from fractal drops or dungeon gear bought with tokens (or via dungeon tracks). And patches are expensive because they contain Leather. So Dire gear is a race to the bottom as people undercut each other hoping to sell detritus from salvaging gear. Whereas Carrion's price remains high because leather is still pricey.
