Constant ping spikes in the thousands. Started with recent balance patch. Routing to Sweden?

Recommended Posts

I'm located in the SF bay area. I've ran every test imaginable on my internet, traceroute, etc. It's not my connection itself. I've ran the repair tool on the game.

Once every minute or so my ping spikes massively, showing either 400+ in game, or 2k, and I often disconnect from the spike.

I can't play the game anymore. Help.

Here is the GW2 diagnostic result:

All my packet loss is from the game's servers. Why is NCsoft sending my packets to Sweden?

You're not. If you were, you'd notice at a 100ms jump as it goes overseas. The real world locations of IPs are only an estimation. This was a long time problem with people thinking the EU servers were in Texas for example, because the IPs were registered to NCSoft in Texas, but IPs can be used anywhere.

For the most part, the actual location is shown in the name. Early on for example, it's Santa Clara, California. Hop 8, which is where you may be seeing Sweden, is Los Angeles, which continues on to Dallas.

This trace is useless however, since that's the old NCSoft servers, which are no longer used. For Amazon, do auth1.101.arenanetworks.com (or auth2 for EU). Also, the estimated packet loss between nodes are the in-between lines with the |.
