After some googling - in super broad strokes - **http:**//cligate.101.ncplatform.net/ - this, in essence, seems to me to be the root of all evil. it should be **https**://cligate.101.ncplatform.net/. (http is now commonly deemed as not safe anymore - and that's why your [various] internet providers classify it as such). But https://cligate.101.ncplatform.net/ is not authenticated, beca anet dns wasn't propagated properly. until anet addresses that, nothing will be fixed. so, with all due respect, stop pestering virgin, bt, telstra, etc with requests and stop, for kittens sake, fiddling with your security settings. keep pressuring anet do to things properly on their end. or go knit something in the meantime. or go outside. it's chilly, but at least the sun is shining...in certain parts of uk, at least :)

I ended up on this website myself and can confirm that it worked for me. It doesn't require tech knowledge, the steps are very clear, doesn't involve messing around with lots of system files and can easily be reverted, so well worth a shot, in my opinion.

To attempt to aide in the resolution of this problem, here are Virgin Media's DNS settings:

- Primary DNS: 194.168.4.100

- Secondary DNS: 194.168.8.100

I believe it is DNS-related as I am currently using Google's with no connectivity problems. Upon auto-assigning or manually-assigning Virgin Media's DNS config, I instantly encounter a connection problem.

I hope the team are able to resolve this soon!

Please put ticket in to Anet Support please also guys. If you're lucky enough to find a work around, that's all it is. Not the solution. Anet needs to know how extensive the issue is and what your circumstances were at the time the problem started, your ISP, what sever you play on etc., There are also instructions early in this thread for doing a diagnostic on the game, which you can attach when support gets to you. I know you want to just get playing, who doesn't, but this helps Anet get to the problem. And no I still can't get in on my PC, but weirdly my laptop does, even if that's all I have open. This gives me a GPU temp of 97-98c constant, so it's not really where I want to be, but gets the dailies done.

Good luck and grats if you've got a work around!

Virgin Media UK user here. I can also confirm that switching to the Google Public DNS worked for me. Google's instructions have Win 7 as their example, so if you're a bit of a techno-chump like me and you're on Win 10, a detailed walkthrough can be found here: https://www.windowscentral.com/how-change-your-pcs-dns-settings-windows-10

Props to everyone who's been finding and posting workarounds, especially Anska.5729, really appreciated, cheers :)

i am with Virgin Media and this works for me

Go into internet settings

Change adapter settings

right click and select properties on your internet connection

Double click Internet Protocol Version IPv4 (TCP/IPv4)

Switch from Obtain DNS server address automatically to Use the following DNS server address

Type in the first box 8.8.8.8

Type in the second box 8.8.4.4

either validate or not (myself for example I did not validate and it worked as soon as i reloaded the launcher)

Relaunch the launcher and I was able to log in.

I am on windows 10

With due respect to the helpful geeks on here, most of us are not going to tamper with settings that are working perfectly well for all other apps including games, especially workarounds that involve about ten instructions. We'll wait for a download. If the download doesn't come it will be good-bye to the sixth birthday present. It's been a decent online hobby but it's running out of road and this may be a sign that the road hasn't many miles left. IMO they are very slow to fix this given that there are plainly knowable ways round it.
