what password am I supposed to use?

I just bought both expansions tonight, and when I try to log into the client using the same password I log into my arena.net account, it prompts me to reset my password - which I have no need/desire to do.

 

If I attempt to log in using my Guild Wars 1 credentials, I get an error stating that I need to change my password before proceeding. Do I need to change it from via the Guild Wars client, or do I need to change it somewhere else?

If your Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2 accounts are not linked, you can not use your Guild Wars password to log into GW2.

You can not use a password that has ever been used before, by anyone, for GW2.

I figured it out. The reset password link I saw via the web portal apparently is the reset password link for my Guild Wars 1 account - I thought it reset the password for my arena.net account.

 

It's all good now. And what's up with my forum name lol :D

You don't have a display name, so it defaulted to that. Contact support to fix it.

Once you link your GW1with your GW2 account, GW1 will now automatically use the password you have picked for GW2. At least, that is what it was like for me in 2012.
