Some Changes to the Skimmer.

1: What I would like to see is the ability to mount up underwater using the skimmer, but instead of it being usable underwater it would simply jet to the surface.

2: Would like to see its speed buff maintained with its hover ability, this would give a way to cross small stretches of ground with out loosing speed. Increase its endurance re-gen by 50% when over water while decreasing it by 50% when over land.

Another option would be to make its speed buff just that a visible buff with a 5s duration that constantly renews it self while over water, would allow for crossing small stretches of land but quickly disappear when not around water for to long.

I mentioned the first one in a suggestion awhile back. I would like to see the skimmer move over ice and snow at the same speed as it does water.

Wanted to make an edit to my original post but seems there is no option for that so will add my comments here.

 

I think the best way to perhaps implement this would be to add a straight up speed buff to his hover ability equal to that of weapon skill and such at 33%, to balance this leave his endurance regen over water the same as it currently is but decrease it when over land by 50% and increase the rate of endurance used by the hover ability while over land.

Again this would allow for crossing small stretches of land while still maintaining the raptor or beetle for quick land travel.

 

And would still like to see the ability to mount the skimmer underwater but it would take you straight to the surface before you had and real control over it.

This might be possible? If not then maybe edit an already accidental glitch in the game. I have clicked waypoints underwater while mounted on Skimmer and it does shoot you up to the surface. It was pretty comical to witness when it does happen.

I like the mount as it is currently. Some of these suggestions buff it even more on water, which is already where it excels, but further nerf it on land where it already is rarely the optimal choice. While it doesn't get a ton of use on land, I think it's important for it to maintain enough utility as to still feel like a viable, valuable choice. Obviously it has the best evade potential with the Jackal mastery that grants all mounts evasion, but I also used the Skimmer a lot for freedom of movement before getting the Griffon. It's no speedster, but when using its ability it at least speeds up to around Raptor running speed, the engage ability is actually quite fast, and the fact that it hovers rather than jumps can be useful to traverse certain terrains, particularly if a cliff has large steps wherein you can use the hover ability to turn it into more of a ramp than a series of jumps. Also handy if you want to jump off a cliff and don't have gliding.

 

TL;DR: Skimmer is fine. It does its job very well, and still has some utility on land. If they want to put an underwater mount in, that's likely to be specialised in a whole different way rather than tacked on.

Yeah you are right, I didn't really consider the impact this would have to his hover ability, so lets scrap that idea.

My main thing is how noticeable it is when he runs over a strip of land, its like some one is hitting the breaks, he is gliding through the air, there should not be any resistance so the sudden jolt in mobility just feels off to me. Perhaps they could allow him to coast for a bit, so he slows down more gradually instead of suddenly making it feel smoother.

 

As for underwater, upon mounting he would swim directly to the surface at a fairly steep angle. Although I would like to have control over his direction of travel while rising maybe even that should be restricted until he is at the surface, and all other ability's should be blocked until then.

This would just make getting from the bottom of areas to the surface faster and you would already be mounted once there.

I don't really think this would make him a true underwater mount. I do believe that is some thing we will see eventually though, and when we do it will be up to the devs weather they wish to transition him to such a role or not. the skimmer in my own opinion would make a good one, but I know that is a divided camp so will leave that for another post.

 

Let me close this by saying that yes if underwater mounts are some thing we are going to see in the near future then making him accessible even in such a minor way is just a waste of time, and that time is better spent else where. But some minor tweaks to how he works over non water surfaces, maybe not such a bad idea.
