Overzealous filter?

Dear ANet, tonight I tried to create a female warrior with the name "Jewel Pommel" (which I obviously thought was pretty clever). That name was rejected because it was offensive. This is obviously preposterous.

@"Bladezephyr.5714" It contains the "ordinary" name (J E W) for a follower of a religion that has been subject to, shall we say, harassment over the centuries. The character name filter rejects *embedded* "bad" words and other things. A classic example that pops up from time to time is Norn females whose player wants to give them a proper patronymic, and the father's name is something that ends in "L", e.g. Karl. The middle of the patronymic contains L S D ( KarLSDottir ) which is filtered as a drug reference.

 

And yes, it is preposterous, but it is what it is. You may be able to negotiate with CS to allow it since it clearly isn't a reference to that religion (just as people have negotiated to get e.g. Karlsdottir passed in).

Ideally, the filter would remove only offensive uses of a word, and would not remove the word used properly, or as part of a larger word. But that isn't the way it works, at times, and I'm sorry for your inconvenience.
