The best way to get acquainted with the world is to go everywhere in the game world, listen to people talk, read the statues and books scattered about. There is lore buried in the farthest reaches of the maps. However, the official wiki is a pretty good gathering of the lore that has been found, including articles that were only published on the main site that detailed some of the history between GW 1 and GW 2.
