There's zero reason to stay mounted when talking to NPCs / interacting in cites etc. > > Incidentally you can avoid dismounts throwing you off a cliff by pressing the back button as the character is thrown up into the air from the dismount process. That compensates for the forward momentum of the dismount and you'll land exactly where your mount was standing. So your problem can be fixed by just pressing one button as well. That or just positioning your mount a bit further back from the edge to start with. Well MMOs are the wrong game genera for you then if you hate visual clutter lol. Try an RPG, or GW1. And yeah, there is a reason to stay mounted when all the new maps have such high aggro npc density you find yourself having to run for 10 minutes to find a safe place to recall your mount. akenoyuki.8210
I agree with mount is dismounted when clicking on NPC in public area / towns What I disagree is, if I got dismounted while: - Opening Chest (Such as noxious pods) - Taking buff from Heroes Banner / Food Tray - Talking to NPC on a personal story mode, my home instance, etc. (you get what I mean)
MrRay.3027
Remember the times when we used to walk? Awful, right? Pressing that W for hours on end. Now we traded those hours for fewer hours, but we have to press the same button (mine is CTRL) a couple of times, some times even after a second after we've just pressed it. I don't know if my pinky can stand so much abuse.

And yeah, there is a reason to stay mounted when all the new maps have such high aggro npc density you find yourself having to run for 10 minutes to find a safe place to recall your mount. There's aggro if you're running across the world yes. But OP is on about dismounting for vendors, talking to NPCs and vistas. In cities there's no enemy aggro, NPCs in the open world/ heart vendors generally have an enemy free radius around them, and if you have pulled an enemy to them then staying mounted while talking wouldn't help you as the enemy would take down your mount health and knock you off it while you're talking/selling anyway. Vistas are also generally enemy free, or at most have 1-2 enemies which takes no time to clear. The enemy aggro being an issue to remount can certainly be annoying for gathering, collecting chests, or trying to switch a mount to get over terrain, but it's irrelevant for the situations the OP mentions that we're discussing here. I can thing of trolling things to do as it is. Use a portable npc beside a bank or trading npc and then you and someone else mounts up on each skimmer or griffin. Good luck click on your desired npc. > > > > I would even like for anet to make it even more strict so that you cannot mount while interacting with something. > > And even disallow mounts in towns. > > For what reason? Restricting the freedom of players is a terrible thing to do and you need kitten good reasons to even think about it. I gave you one reason but I can give you more. - That a blob of players will stand with mounts by npc's and make it very hard to click the NPC and it will be easy to troll with just a few players. - That for in Amnoon as an example, there are signs in the town that says "Raptors are not allowed" though at the moment there is no punishment or angry people when you ride around in the Bazaar or Casino with your mount. - It's a bad reason as to alot allready in this game isn't very realistic but I would have a hard time to loot a chest, pick up a bag, use a lever, light a bonfire or even buy and sell on a mount. But I am not against it as it is now, I just mean that I would even see it more strict for these reasons, I wouldn't complain. But yea it is really neat to have a mount everywere. PopeUrban.2578
The way mounts are designed you're constantly on/off them anyway. Do yourself a favor, bind each mount you have to a hotkey. GW2's mount system is designed in his really situational manner so that they work more like skills than vehicles. Once you get used to just hitting a hotkey for the proper mount situation you'll learn to love getting on/off mounts as part of the flow of play as you'll be moving around and getting a lot more buffs and damage from engage skills more frequently. Basically, the mounts are designed so that you are constantly hitting mount related buttons in all parts of the game, so if you're complaining about having to unmount and mount again you're sort of missing the point. The whole system is designed for you to be constantly mounting and unmounting for different terrain, different groups of enemies to engage skill on etc.
Vanive.3804
Here is a perfect example of why this is annoying. Go into Fallback Fissure and collect all that you can collect and then tell me you still feel the same after trying to get out without suicide. Even my Shadow Refuge did no good. It just happened that I barely lost aggro long enough to get mount back out, barely. https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Fallback_Fissure
Zaltys.7649
I'm more bothered by how you actually get _thrown_ off the mount when dismounting. You don't land exactly where the mount was standing, but instead a short distance forward. ...on several occasions, I've ended up sliding off a cliff while trying to dismount to view a vista... Purgatori.3645
This thread is making me squint >.> I just dont understand .... its a little tap on the "x" button to dismount just give it a little tappy ... tap tap taparoo.
draconicrose.6213
There's situations where being dismounted is very annoying, such as when talking to NPCs (simple dialogue) or viewing vistas. Things that are actual interactions such as gathering, buying and selling, opening chests, etc, should still dismount you.
Cleopatra.4068
Dismounting is annoying because it shakes the screen. It makes me dizzy. I don't actually care that I was dismounted. I care that it makes me dizzy.

castlemanic.3198
Fun fact, if you're on the springer and you interact with a vista that's on the very edge of a cliff, you can go through the whole vista cinematic and then go back to your now dead character because springer dismount throws you forward a little bit. I think it's hilarious and when i tested this out i nearly fell out of my seat laughing. As a whole i think it's fine as it is. I think the devs in the recent ama in reddit claimed there was some sort of thing on the programming side of things that would make life hell for everyone, so they opted for dismount to solve the issue. Mister Asdasd.6194
at least change it for vistas and opening chests. More than once have i died because i had to stand on a tiny ledge for a vista only to die because i was dismounted and thrown of the ledge while the animation played. Or at least dismount on the location our mount stood, not catapulting us ahead

Tyncale.1629
After reading in the reddit AMA summary that they moved away from activating stuff from your mount due to the the variety of triggers---> action messes up, it seems there is room to be able to do *some* stuff from your mount, but not everything. For instance, I do not see why they could not just make it so that you can actually harvest nodes from your mount, but for the rest you have to dismount. Most harvesting tools us some hands=off animation these days anyway, like the Jack in the box, or the laserbeam and such. Not really sure which triggers are the ones that could cause problems though. Dialogue? Heropoints triggering a Fight? How many types of triggers--->specific reaction are there in GW2?
Maikimaik.1974
I just don't understand you guys. Remounting has no cooldown, you can do it while walking and it's instant. WHY does it bother you so much?

"harvesting tools these days" You realize that those harvesting tools are luxury microtransactions right? Its not like people get them just for buying an expansion.
