Ashantara.8731
Why do only 3 of the 4 gems glow? Couldn't find any info on that. Does anyone happen to know the historical background, perhaps through one of the novels (which I have not read)?
Danikat.8537
The gems represent the 4 legions - Blood, Fire, Iron and Ash. The Ash Legion gem is black and therefore doesn't glow exactly, although it does have a sort of haze effect around it. (I assume the red gem is for Blood Legion, yellow for Fire and grey/blue for Iron.)

It doesn't look like a dagger anymore at that size but rather like a (1/4 size-reduced) Bat'leth. ;)
Ashantara.8731
LOL, I should have read the reference section on Wiki: "Ghosts of Ascalon, page 357: Two blades pointing forward, two pointed back, a handgrip in the middle. An ungue. It was set with four gems—red, black, gray, and golden—for the four childrn of the imperator, and the four founders of the modern legions." Although, it would not have answered my question exactly, as I thought the fourth socket was empty.
