  1. I'd like to see other changes for mesmer than single dodge. It's a bad solution for the class. And while I did find condi mirage oppressive once upon a time. I think if they adjusted down (not sure if even required anymore) some of the mirage clone burst when they dodge, I'd give them back the second bar of stamina.

Mesmer is the only class I've never really invested into, but I can feel for players having to adjust between pvp and pve with something as jarring as losing a dodge. Remove damage, remove duration of conditions, but don't change the mechanics of the class or how it feels to play it.

    Thanks.

Haha, so true. As a primary pvper in this game, I can't remember the last time I considered transmute charges. I think I have over 600. It's funny because pvp in this game started as a great way to farm skins. Now it's great to farm gold and transmutation charges to buy skins and use them!

  3. I'm seeing a few polls about this lately. And honestly, I think it comes down to how rarely we get expansions. I couldn't stand if the next expansion was pvp or wvw only, but if expansions were a yearly thing, that brought sometimes elite specs, sometimes big maps and new story arcs, sometimes pvp expansions, sometimes wvw expansions. If every year something big and cool came out, I'd be really happy for specific expansions. As it is right now, it's been over 3 years since the last expansion, with another year or two expected before it hits. With 4-5 year gaps in expansions, I can't support the idea to have more specific additions only.

Would be great in an ideal situation, since it would allow them to focus a lot of attention onto one aspect for a bit. But it's just not the reality of the game sadly. If someone had told me when PoF came out that we'd be 4 or 5 years before another expansion, I'd have laughed. Who's laughing now....?

Still glad we're finally getting an expansion!

  4. I gotta say, I don't encounter too many bots. I've seen maybe 1/15 games so far. But I wanted to comment how funny it is that some bots are making it to plat. That's hilarious, cause I was just responding to a guy wondering how to climb the brackets. It's funny all my advice seems pointless if a bot can do it by just playing a lot of games and getting lucky. Haha

  5. I played only silly joke builds last season and dropped to silver 3. This season I'm playing a bit more seriously (no matches with builds I've never tried, outside of game I misclick and select the wrong gear template to go the correct build template before a match)

Now, I'm sitting about to enter plat, like when I try hard. I figure I can make it into plat again if I don't mess around too much.

Moral of the story. Good players get to higher rating and bad players stay in lower rating. If you're not getting higher, it's cause you're not good enough to carry through the bad games of your bracket yet.

There's a reason when I'm struggling up a bracket, at least 60% of my games are as close as 50 points by the end. Close games you barely wins, by pulling your team across the finish line is how you rank up.

If your skills have gotten better as a solo player, now you need to get good enough to make up for the 50% bad players the MMR system puts you with the balance the match. You need to overcome that obstacle, like everyone in plat+.

You could always team up, but I've never done it for a season and I've still made plat many time. Although usually plat 1-2 only. And there are players better than me.

I'm sure with more time, you'll find some builds that you can use to either tilt the enemy team. (Far point trolls). Support your team through team fights (support). Or play a build that can allow you to quickly tear apart the enemy rotations. (Holo is best for that right now)

You need to do more than play good to win at this game. You need to give your team an edge and put the enemy team on the backfoot, while staying alive and capturing points.

If you're just running mid, and your team gets wiped and this repeats over and over until the end. You probably belong in your bracket. But if you find ways to reduce the loss one game, eventually you'll turn some very close games and that's how you shift the 50/50 ratio. To reach higher brackets. You have to barely win the games you were meant to lose.

    Good luck!

  6. Only do the grind if you love PvP. I've heard that the other sources (raids, and even wvw) are faster than the PvP legendary armor.

Having said that, I grinded legendary armor in PvP, since I don't raid and prefer it over wvw usually.

I enjoyed it and started to work towards a second set, although it's been forever that I make any real progress on that. I mostly just PvP for fun and one day expect to get another set.

Still if you love PvP, and grind hard, you can get it in about 3-4 seasons. Or you only play a game or two a day, it'll take more like 8 seasons I think.

Obviously, it is possible to save up in a single season. But you'd have to never sleep and just PvP probably...

    Good luck!

  7. Yes, pvp is more fun at lower tiers anyway. Some people get really triggered in Plat+. Afking games on one lost mid fight, etc. But if you have a good attitude, and enjoy the mechanics, it's quite fun.

I'm less enthralled than I was in the past, due to certain class mechanics being less enjoyable, and balance issues, and most of all, that I've been playing for almost 8 years. So I'm a bit tired. I certainly don't grind seasons anymore. Still only 4 games into placement, but having fun each time I feel like hoping on.

Don't be discouraged by vocal complainers. The mode is not in as good shape as it once was, but if you're a total noob, it's really fun to see what works and what doesn't.

    Important Tips:

-Pay a lot of attention to the minimap. You should generally know where all 5 enemies are at all times, same with your allies obviously, but that's easier. Enemies appear on the minimap when they are near your allies. Count them out and keep track. It'll change everything once you get the habbit down.

-Avoid outnumbered fights. While you're learning, lean heavily on this basic concept of strategy. Try to outnumber your enemy, but never fight when you're outnumbered. Check the minimap and meet back up with your teamates.

-On respawn (outside of certain roaming classes like thief) head to your home base before heading to the mid fight. You can avoid this rotation if you have a solid position for all 5 enemies, but if you don't see one, check your home base and make sure it's not being capped.

-If the game gets weird, where you have an enemy/ies, always hitting your home and camping it, it's okay to abandon it until the enemy leaves it. Usually these enemies have builds tailored to fight outnumbered, and will force more than 1 player back to defend. In these cases, it's better to outnumber the rest of the map and ignore these people. But it's easier said than done.

-Learn defensive rotations and positions where you can get away from your enemy. (Some places where people can't teleport to, etc exist on the map, and will serve as places you can escape to in a pinch.

-Rotations are more important than just about anything. You'll need many games to get used to making the 'right' decision, but of course we all make mistakes. Do I decap far or help mid? In time, it'll become clear.

Good luck, and I hope you enjoy yourself. I'm hoping for balance changes one day, and that the next round of elite specs don't make things even worse, but honeslty, as far as MMO's go, the pvp in this game is still good. I usually make my own builds, as you learn better that way, as you tweak it, but you can visit metabattle to get started on viable builds.

  8. I'm fine with deathmatch mini season replacing off-season though. Although, I'd love it if they could come up with some fun competitive alternative pvp modes. Capture the flag like in wow would be fun. 5v5 capture the flag. Flag carrier has no strange restrictions, but you can't cap the flag unless your team has it's flag back.

I had a lot of hope for Stronghold as a dota type gamemode, but it was way too tedious. (Buying creepes I mean) I hope they try something new soon.

  9. Just a quick message to thank the Devs for including the festival end date into the in-game UI. I've wanted something like this for years, glad to see you can finally know (without too much trouble) when the festivals will end. I assume this will be the standard going forward.

If this has been in for some time, and I just noticed, forgive me. haha. Haven't been playing as much as I once was.

I thought you said there was no expansion?...

Nice troll. I checked twice before realizing there's nothing. Last post from A-Net on balance was from June.

I've been hearing some rumors about changes, but I haven't seen anything truly describing the changes.

All I've heard so far is something like (Thief nerf, Holo Nerf, Elementalist Nerf, Necro Nerf?) Specifics aren't clear. It's not even clear if this is legit. (From my perspective)

Hopefully someone will come in and confirm a date or even generally what they are doing for balance.

  12. Stronghold would be better if the npcs spawned periodically with side objectives that enhance them or summon heroes for your side. I don't like needing to grab supply to buy a unit to march across the map. Not a fan of the map, but it's close to being a fun mode imo. I'd like to see some effort made to make it work better. Not holding my breath though.

We didn't get to name Braham... What are you talking about?...

  14. I actually just uninstalled for the first time in years. PvP was always my main game mode. But frankly, I'm not sure what it is, but I felt like I needed to take a break from the game. But ya, pvp hasn't really been that fun since PoF launched imo. There were some dark spots before. (Like omg Season 1, with mesmer bunkers everywhere I also stopped playing)

I can't believe that headbutt still does 10dmg. (15 if you have stability up....) Like just remove that damage increase and let us stab our headbuts again. This mechanic was just added this year I believe, and it's already removed, but not really. Details like this get noticed, and they build up.

I still think gw2 is a good game. But I just can't push myself for another season.
