  3. I read other forums with a downvote button and in each forum it causes some controversy and anxiety. People get silently downvoted after making a well thought out comment and they don't even know why. From the reactions this really bugs some people and personally I'm not seeing the value in these "drive by downvotes" as they're reflexive emotional responses rather than a reasoned written response to that person's argument.

  4. I'm female and chose the "both" option but I mostly play female. However I have 3 males that I made, two of which I play (one was turned into a mule because I got bored with his profession) because I thought of a name or a look that was best suited for a male char. So I guess it's aesthetics that's the main reason I mostly play females. To me, male Humans/Sylvari run in an immersion breaking, straight backed and rigid manner and medium armor on males is teribad.

I don't think anyone knows. So, I said to heck with that and made my own. I copy paste my "signature" from my notepad after each post. A bit of effort to do it each time....... but I got my signature back.

This can mean only one thing.

As another forum poster said in a different thread about the forum

    > Locking forum functionalities behind badges only encourages artificial behavior in order to farm more badges and unlock said features. The main goal of the forum should be discussion, not achievement farming and spamming to get points.

Posting to rank up is artificial posting and spamming. It's not desirable behavior. Asking for a way to see the rules so that you can do this is asking for something that is detrimental to the purpose of the forum. Sometimes it's best to realize that that something isn't good for the community and you should refrain from doing it.

Otherwise these forums will be flooded with spam posts and pointless replies to things by people trying to increase their rank.

    > Which is exactly why the rank system needs to be transparent. Both in what ranks are obtainable and in how to obtain different ranks. I probably won't care enough to go beyond "Member" if I can see a list of what the ranks do, but without a list like that I feel the "need" to level up because I just don't know if it will be useful or not... I'm sure others feel the same.

Which is exactly why the forum _shouldn't_ have a rank system. What is needed is substantive posts The last thing needed is people posting just to level up their ranks.

Leave the forums open on your computer in the background while playing the game, then you'll see. For a quick sample, simply open the web console (F12) and enter the following script `$.idleTimer(0);` and watch the top of the screen for the 30 second warning.

    My iPad ain't got no f12s. ^^

  11. You can see the icons of who voted. If someone is mass downvoting then their icon will show up on post after post, making it obvious what they are doing. In such a case you could try reporting the person for trolling the forums and let the mods handle it.

Same question. I've been searching for an answer as I sometimes message people for private discussions. It has occurred to me that maybe it's an earned feature, like the signature and the ability to edit after 15 minutes have passed. Hopefully we'll get an answer.
