  1. It's my main MMO, but I take breaks whenever I feel like it and play _other_ games on the side, even MMOs. But only GW2 has me coming back and enjoying it every time. Other MMOs seldom hold my attention as much as GW2 when I return. Might be back to try a new feature or such, but then rest of the MMO loses its appeal and I'm back to GW2 again.

Kind of nice how this is with GW2, but at the same time I'm a bit disappointed GW2 sends me on these breaks.

Probably a few more colours they can add to the dragon slayer collections in addition to azure, crimson, we should have enough grind for years xD

The god awful grindy collections they started adding with stormcaller weapons, dragon slayer, etc that cost so much to craft aren't everyone's idea of fun. I am playing and wrapping up collections these days, but less expensive collections, but I hope Anet have something else in mind than these minimal DRMs as content to keep us busy until EoD.

  4. So the current contenders of GW2 - NW and AoC - are unreleased games that are now looking to be launched (NW) or have its alphas starting (AoC) around the same time we're expecting the EoD expansion to GW2. The difference is how these games post development updates and showcase some of the cool stuff that's coming, whereas Anet continue in their same style of not sharing anything - and with an upcoming expansion in a competitive MMO market, isn't it about time they market it a little and at least give us a little update on something coming to help build a little hype and interest in their upcoming product.

My guild(s) are all looking ahead to NW and AoC and preparing for these games because those games *are* publishing articles that give some insight into what's coming. Of course, GW2 is different being already established and players already being max level / power, etc. I'm not talking about Anet giving away what the elite specs will be, nor any new features they're going to surprise us with, but glimpses and artwork of Cantha, some stories as background to what's taking us there.

Possibly the conclusion to Champions will make some of this unfold naturally, but simply knowing 'xpac is coming' may be enough for me (a die-hard fan of the Guild Wars universe), but for many other players it isn't.

    > I am not cool with the dead game memes, but this feels like the game is being abandoned.

Well, you know they are working on End of Dragons xpac so the game is far from abandoned. But yeah, this weak LS update needed a weekly update to missions or community event or some such to improve on this first week's weak effort.

  6. Anet: Here are the rewards you will get if you do NN amount of missions to help mobilize!

Player: But it's boring... but I guess I can play them to get my rewards.

Anet: Oh, but it's a community effort, you all have to grind these boring missions to achieve all the rewards.

    Player: ...

So even if I convince myself to go through this, it won't be enough because I must rely on a lot of other players to also go against their own good judgment and play this boring content?!

Completely failed on this one, Anet.

Maybe it wouldn't be so bad if the 3 missions were varied and good, but they're all boring rinse and repeat spanking of various destroyer tanks/sponges, and occasionally a respawn race as the only way you manage to halt progress in the mission is by popping a fissure amidst a barrage of meteors and projectile-launching destroyer fiends... I think perma-evade thieves are the only ones who can avoid all the damage you choose to dish out.

    > It has been stated by the devs they will add more content between the ‘chapters’ of Champions. So we should get more additions and updates to this story content between now and Chapter 2 in January. It probably won’t be anything MAJOR, but they’re doing a steady/staggered release of content for Champions.

Ah, that's good to know. If that includes the 7 remaining DRMs then hopefully they can fix those before they release those, because this first batch of three really did not impress.

But this was it though, wasn't it? Next up now will be Wintersday in December and next part of Champions isn't coming until January?

  9. Story ok, but the missions are terrible. Whereas before we've had map-wide metas that have been cornerstone to Guild Wars 2 nature with big fights, now we're being split into small units of 5 players, and in the public instance you're not even grouped up so lacking that dynamic.

And the private squad... well, fix the LFG for starters... The "Champions" section under LS: Icebrood Saga a "Squad" type so if you try to make a Party there for DRMs (because obviously, why else would you group up for Champions seeing as there's no story instance nor new map to join each other in??) then you get a squad and you cannot enter the private instance mode of the DRM.

So after a while you manage to put your group together (hint: Central Tyria - Parties) and then you enter these bland missions that

    a) isn't fun, takes too long and feel unrewarding

    b) aren't fun because you repeatedly punch a sponge for ages only to whittle away its HP, only to be swarmed by trash mobs when you've in addition got a barrage of nukes/meteors, stuff erupting from fissures plus the winged destroyers who carpet-bomb the area. Maybe it's a scaling issue but when these are intermission phases to a boss fight who hardly takes dmg, well...

    c) just makes me shudder if this is what we're getting moving forward, circling back to the opening argument of being stuck into 5-man instances with no sense of party... token collection hysteria from rinse & repeat 3 more or less identical missions that more or less make me want just shut down the game and watch a wall instead.

And the new masteries are time-gated behind some sort of mechanism - to do with the community-wide achievement? Or is it just time-based? Or is it based on completing the achievements of the DRM CMs? Which of course would be silly, because then we're back to arguments a - c as to why I'm not about to play those again right now.

  10. I think it's default, that once you've completed some story in your journal, it will go back to the earliest, unfinished story in your journal and make that active again.

Kind of like how you can disable the content guide, it would be handy to get some options to disable the various events, personal story, achievement indicators in the HUD.

Yeah, I get that... I'm in my forties btw so I guess I belong in the older player category too ;)

  12. I honestly don't see why Clocktower or Winter Wonderland are considered hard, I mean, the killers for me are the ones in Southsun Cove (those stalagtites/stalagmites?) and the Aetherblade one in Gendarran Fields... now those got some awkward jumps.

Clocktower is a few jumps and mostly running on ledges, don't get me wrong though, it's one of the most enjoyable ones, maybe due to the urgency of the rising mists.

    > Really? You don't understand why?

Well, leggings I can... but even if you hid the chest you could see undergarments where applicable. It's not like this game ever showed you boobs and genitals anyway, so what does it matter if we see someone in their bra and underwear?

Other than that I don't see why - so enlighten me if I'm wrong.

  14. All Charr and Norn surely sing out in beautiful unison support of this!

Remember the upright Charr in GW1 with armor but no chest armor, looked really tough. I've had Charr characters in GW2 wearing no chest armor to get the same look... sucks though losing all that armor value!

Besides, you can hide helmet, shoulders, gloves and even shoes, but not chest / leggings... just why....

    > And while you're at it, please add a button "Skip to the rewards" so we don't have to keep pressing 1 for so long. We all know we're going to succeed the meta anyway.

Not sure why you want to be sarcastic about reducing the duration of one of the "pre-events" to the Storms of Winter meta. I'd like all to remain, but the defense vs those bombers, if you've got an organized run with a full map, it's just repetition for 6-8 out of those 12-14 minutes the event lasts. No challenge, no fun. We should definitely keep it in so we have to survive the "onslaught" but as it is, it's more of a formality and we kind of get the Fraenir's feelings after a few minutes, and then we can move on to next part of the corrupted shards.

  16. Yeah, it's getting really bad now.. EU servers apparently seem struck most hard. LS4 and PoF maps are rapidly becoming unplayable.

I've spent a few hours in Jahai Bluffs now and game just keeps hanging and throwing all kinds of lag at me, suddenly I skip to somewhere else, suddenly I'm dead by some mob that wasn't even there.

Server techs REALLY need to up their game and sort out the performance issues!

    > Canach and Marjory. Maybe Taimi but only if we're taking her there for her funeral.

    xD

The more I think about it, if we're taking Dragon's Watch, it will most likely be Marjory, Kasmeer and Taimi left.

Rytlock should find his way back to the Black Citadel and help re-uniting the Charr "post-Jormag". How quickly do the Charr come of age, can Prisca (the Flame Legion imperator's daughter) do a job for us when it's time to set sail to Cantha? Or if Rytlock does indeed retire, let's bring in a new female Charr, Galina Edgecrusher.

Braham should meet his end facing Jormag... please, pretty please... perhaps impaled on another of Jormag's teeth, that would be fitting.

Taimi sadly, yea, has to come along, but let's find her a watery grave in Cantha. OR... here's a thought, Taimi and Gorrik can create a new golem we can bring who they can remote control or stay in touch through. So, Scruffy 3.0. Alternatively, let's take Gorrik and a golem along.

I'd quite like Canach to join Dragon's Watch now, seeing as this guild has lost a few members (as per my improvised storyline, not according to current events).

Seeing as Braham sadly (not!) met his end, let's appraoch Jhavi Jorasdottir instead and recruit her. Jormag has assumeably been dealt with, she no longer needs to remain in charge up north.

    > > >

    > > > The problem with this line of thought is, that people will get used to get a key per week and then will ask for a key as part of the daily reward. People are greedy, just as companies are, they want more because more is more and more is always better. Much like OP, who is getting free keys, a thing that is already goodwill from ANet, but after a while, the greed sets in and tells the players "I should be getting more of this for less effort" and then you take to the forums and make a """"""""""suggestion"""""""""".

    > > > If ANet wanted to save themselves and the servers the workload of "all the characters created to farm keys" they would simply remove the key from the reward and make keys a gemshop exclusive, making more money from keys as a result.

    > >

    > > I'm not advocating it should be an easy way, like the OP. Mechanically, it's quite boring going through character creation and make your noob go through the starter scenes (although some skip those, I think?) Anyhow - that process takes about ~15-20 minutes to get you a free, weekly key.

    > >

    > > What if the "free" weekly achievement key was the reward from completing a weekly meta achievement that either required 7 dailies, and perhaps a few more tasks, to incentivise PLAYING the game, and not just running like a bot through the starter missions and contributing nothing to the noob areas where you've got real, new players running around. I can assure you, those key farmers are all about doing this as quick and painless as possible, I'd chance a guess at 90% of them being less than helpful to new players in starting zones.

    >

    > I don't see what you could contribute to starter areas, except by being another faceless mook in the world boss zerg. Or do you expect people to stay there with mentor tag spamming the usual "Are you new/returning player? Ask me anything(and send some tips)."?

    >

    > Your idea would be nice for me though. I don't bother making a new character every week.

Oh, just generally stopping to answer questions from new players in earnest. I've started new chars and just played through starting zones myself and sometimes seen new chars/players asking questions in say/map chat and then stopped what I was doing and given answers to help them progress. A key farmer, as per the current method, is so used to running on automatic, I doubt they will answer questions. Just an assumption though!

    >

    > i afk a lot and a lot longer than 10 minutes (_and by that i mean alt-tabbing away from gw2 so the game gets no input and starts the afk timer_) when waiting for metas for example or taking a break from the game. if it's a meta and it starts at xx:45 and it's still xx:08 on my clock -and- i have nothing better to do then i alt-tab (gw2 thinks i will be afk and start the afk timer) because leaving the map or logging out may lock me out from re-entering or trying to join the populated map with commanders at xx:35 just before the meta begins. so i will afk longer than 10 minutes.

    >

    > that said i don't play ranger or necro (very rarely for either), so a change to minion/pet timers wouldn't affect me but if they changed map-wide participation to be cancelled (another solution cooked up by other threads) because you were afk for longer than 10 or 30 minutes then that's not right for any class/profession.

Exactly, this isn't an AFK timer to kick players, but an AFK timer to despawn minions/turrets/etc.

You can still hang around a WP waiting for a map meta; as you said, you've alt-tabbed out doing other stuff but your character also just sits there in GW2. That's fine.
