  1. In the early story they are more for the imersion imo. Later on they don't fight much better but they will rez you up if you are in downstate. Or they give you partial usefull buffs like Kasmeer in the Caudecus fight where she is throwing time warp bubbles like candy on helloween towards you.
  2. Mhhm 2 years ago i would have been all in for GW3. But those days.... I left EQ2 after 10 years and struggled to get invested into an mmo again take me some time till i landed here. I love GW2, sure it has it's downfalls and flaws, i got over 5k hours on the clock but i don't feel there will be any sequel or other MMO where i will get into. I'm overall someone who is more of an all in personality. But i think i'm at a point where i wouldn't dive deep into GW3, heck i don't want to leave GW2. For me it feels like this is my thing and if they turn it down i will never get into in an other mmo again.
  3. I highly recommend doing some collection archievments. I stupidly ignore them for a long time because i saw them as a generic dumb AP grind. But there are some great skins or other stuff at the end of them. My turn around was the otter's blessing enrichment. I saw it and fell in love with it. Have still some things to do for it but i also found a lot of other cool things i want to get so i have stuff to do for years.
  4. My problem with EoD is that i feel they abandon the whole saga thing. I feel they miss a great opportunity to rebrand the LS into this saga stuff and create a new way/schedule to release content or other stuff. I have no big expactations about EoD but if i take a look from HoT and the following up LS into PoF i feel PoF is the much weaker expac. Also the Saga is okayish for me but i don't now how or why but the LS 3+4 kept me playing way longer than any of the Icebrood stuff. I really hope they step up their game once more because i really think a expac on the actual Icebrood Saga level will harm the game big time in a way they can't even make up for it with new especs or masteries. I'm really worried about what will be left at the end when the whole going back to cantha nostalgia is fading away...
  5. >I just strongly claim that Anet knows what is played most and you can see that in what they put their attention on it. Living World. Whether you like it or not is of course the other thing ^^. This is a real good point. I honestly think LW is the main content and people which play this content are main player base of this game. I assume those are also the players which spend the most money on the in game store. Also i recognized there are not this much heavy complains about LS overall. To me it seems ANet delivers suitable content to the main player base which is reagarded at least as okayish. Also i think LS and how it works and is concepted attracts a lot of mmo hopper and just play the new episode type of players. Those kind of players are imo not that passionated about the game than players which plays comeptetive game modes or do the high tier pve endgame content. Also i feel that the raid/high end tier fractal runners/pvp/wvw population is shrinking overall. I see more and more really dedicated people not loggin on regulary or at all. I had a really big dip on those players on my friend list about 4 months ago and it seems to continuing that more and more people i know wich are or was really invested into this game take a really long break or just left to another game. Edit: I like the LS stuff. I would even promote to get more people into LS design in hope to get a better quality out of it. ATM it feels like they mainly focusing on the next xpac and miss the opportunity the get a big hit on the rebranding from LS into the saga stuff....
  6. >Yeah its an odd complaint for sure... you need endgame gear for endgame content and he's going into endgame content to get endgame gear, so things is to hard. Which is of course, kitten backwards. The irony is you can get bis exo armor for an power build really cheap on the TP. The amount of gold which is required is a joke if you compare the overall value of an berserker exo set to the time and activities you can use it for. Aside from T4 fractals and CM you can participate on everything even raids. Also if one is smart and use the stat search on the TP instead of the attribute name berserker one can get it even cheaper. If you go for an yolo condi build it's ridiculus cheap. I used carrion gear on my condi weaver in frac/raid pugs for almost 11 months and got away with it until i changed to berserker fresh air weaver. >I still remember when my guild first went into Arah, half equipped with rares - some being the first rushed 80's in the guild - and not knowing kitten about the dungeon, there where little to no clips on others having done it. We got our kitten handed to us for 2 hours before we gave up because the dungeon was too kitten hard. Ohh the good 'ol times ^^ I wiped there too many times. Brings back nice memorys. Was playing necro as my first toon long before the condi stacks were revamped... Buildcrafting there was very interresting also no one of my game mates had a clue what we were in for and how things work. But somehow we did it in the end.
  7. >but of course. i have played them for 17 years now. i have 5 of them installed . and i am subbed to one of them too. sometimes to more than one i know casual when i see it, and this aint it. exo gear isnt just "handed to you" either... if it was, then i would have more , than just a few amulets. I can proof it to you. You got regulary only for login rewards. One of them is a chest with exotic gear. You can even choose the profession and for wich the chest will contain a random exotic piece of gear/wepaon. And if you don't need/like them you can spare them and put them into th mystic forge and transform them to a new one. Also you get seven times Laurels in a month so you can even buy your way up on the amulet/trinket/ring side of things into ascendet. Just from login rewards. I don't know any mmo where you can obtain gear in this quality only for login. Also if you play the story you get from Chapter 8 The forgotten Temple onwards Lvl 80 stuff as reward. All of this is exo mybe not bis stats but you will gear wise nearly completly exo amored going into hot, where you can buy your way up to good exo stuffs by only participating on story or events. In the ratio from time to gear value this even beats WOW BFA dailys where scaled up gear was literally thrown at you. Edit: Source GW2 wiki Login Rewards. Leveling and Story rewards.
  8. >wrong, i loved core tyria. and i hate the expansions with a vengeance. last time i played was when drizzlewood was new. and when a game wants me to WORK for the fun ( that i have already paid for) , then i want a guaranteed and SIMPLE way to progress. the expansions simply cant deliver that. pretty simple, right? Don't get me wrong but maybe mmo's aren't the type of games or entertaining you are looking for. I played almost every mmo out there and GW2 is the one with the least amount of work, grind or time you need to invest to finish any pve content at all. There is literaly no need for a grind in any way. The only progression you have are the masterys wich can be obtained easily, you can even choose how to get them because there are a wide array of activitys/ways to get them so you don't need to force yourself into something you don't like. That's why i ended up here because i don't need to run some dungeons over and over again in hope to get my bis sword dropped, just to got the same sword devalueded with the next big content patch. No need for rep grinds. No need to grind for some time gated empowerments wich comes obsolete with a new expansion. You even don't need to level a new toon because the game bombardes you with tomes. Exo gear is handed to you on a silver plate. A new story chapter took me and my RP group around a maximum of 2 hours and maybe 1 more for map completion if there are points wich are meta locked. Metas don't fail even if most of the people AA all the time. Only collections tend to be time sinks but the good thing about them is you don't need anything they offer to take part in any gamemode. I personaly hate them so i dont do them. I don't even own a skyscale because i just dont like the collection. The game is designed, is whole philosophy is the simple and easy way to progress. I don't want to white knight ANet becuase they really have big downsides on their view of their game imo but the one thing they really nail perfectly is the easy way to progress because this caters towards their main audience which are casual gamers with limited time. This players brings the most money into the game. An other take on the game feels like work would be taking a step back and make a break. That's what i do if i don't have fun in Tyria. And thanks to the the game design my toons are still relevant in any type of content even after a 6 month break, like my last one. And if this dosen't help i would walk away completly. I learned this the hard way on EQ2. I play trough boring times, logged in even if i really don't want it because i thought somehow/someday the fun will coming back but it never happened. The devs just take another way and take on the game that dosen't suited me anymore.
  9. The first story parts Traherne was pretty anoying to me. He felt bland and overley characterized/pigeon holed into the scolar/book worm arche type. But after talking to the pale tree when re recived his sword i liked him more and more he evolved pretty good. Also i really liked that he was the Leader of the Pact. I think GW2 is overdoing that we are the super world saving hero to much. I don't know in FFXIV the whole warrior of the light thing works out fine for me but here i can't get into it. It just feels arkward so many times. I cringed so hard when my Charr was forced to join the pathetic shining blade dudes.... That's why we need more Trahernes. Let them be the leading super heroes. If they grow to strong you always can let them die or take their powers away by some story relevent events! I'm on team Trahearne! Also he summoned a bunch of necro flesh golems at one time! Gives extra style points!
  10. >But people who don't like that will just avoid these maps and maybe even the whole game. And even if here in the forum the perceived majority are the hardcore players who would prefer a Dark Souls, I strongly argue that the majority who play GW2 are the casuals. Come on that's never been said in threads like this even on some kind of subtext. That's the same level of exaggerating like saying people who wants the mobs to be tuned down wants a walking simulator. >There is always a subset of players on any forum who claim any critisism is about difficulty and try to derail any and all such threads by shouting it out as many times as it takes. It doesn't matter how many times it's pointed out that it isn't about that. It is what it is. The question also is does tuning down the range of aggroing for mobs is part of the overall difficulty skaling of the game? For me it is. Because the game gives the player plenty of mechaniks to work around this. Is it always perfect? I don't think so but mostly it works pretty well.
  11. >Except all evidence available is that it does the opposite because there's nothing drawing large crowds to those maps. Imo the lack of interresting/rewarding map wide meta events on those maps are the main reason for lacking players overall on the PoF maps. PoF maps looks for me like kinda abandond content from a lot of players. Even at odd hours (on EU side) i always find some coms doing the same old HoT meta events over and over again. Even Dragons Stand has still a surprisingly high participation rate of players. Sure on prime time there is the standart bounty com on the PoF maps but finding players for meta events can be quite challenging. Meanwhile in HoT maps i just need to put the com tag on, list it into the group finder and you easily get between 10 players to a full squad in no time.
  12. We need also to take the power creep into acount if we are talking about orr. I remember a time even after the nerfs to Orr where those areas were still quite deadly to some builds/classes or if you were running without condi cleans. This together with mounts has trivialized these areas even more. Same happened to the HoT areas. One could play the devils advocate and say: You see you can skip or just delete the mobs in older areas so easy, it's time to tune them up...
  13. >why should i learn buildcrafting, if im not supposed to use it? and a TUTORIAL would prolly be handy BEFORE i made my build ..an IN GAME tutorial but its all moot >anyway, theyre only making story content...and im not gonna touch that with ten feet pole >id rather retire my pact commander, while he still has a shred of dignity left in him There is literally no buildcrafting needed for OW/Story. Just adjust. Read up the traits and what they do and choose what seems right for you. Same goes with utility skills and the weapons. Ironicly even without adjusting you can clean all areas of the game with grren gear easily as long as you know how to dodge, read the tells, clean condis, break breakbars and how to prioritize some mobs over others to kill.
  14. Condi FB is the condi version of power FB. He also provide quickness to group. The downsides are that the DPS is often lower in premade groups because he needs some ramp up time. It shines in groups where the bosses don't fall quickly so you can get the full potential of sustained condi dps out of it. I would still prefer power Qickbrand. Power shines imo more in short trash fights and for me it's easier to play. If you are lacking a renegade/mesmer for alacraty you can also put some more diviner trinkets on for better quickness uptime. Overall if you are not sure what to take try the basic builds in some lower fractals for a few weeks to get a hang of them just get some cheap exo gear from the TP or crafting and ascendet trinkets trough the LS Maps. Then choose wahts the most fun to you. You will get the most out of a class/spec which is the most fun to play imo. Maybe a long time guardian main can give you some more insights too i don't play guardian on a daily base and in fractals i just play it if the role is in need, i'm in a pretty casual oriented guild and there we don't have an premade meta comp often.
  15. In T4 most players know the fractals and works overall well together so i would run the standart DH DPS build if pure DPS it what you want. I would use GS as main weapon and switching between sword/scepter/focus/shield depending on what is situational more usefull. But i would suggest to run Quickbrand overall. You get easier into groups and the support you bring is pretty strong even in unorganized groups. Your best bet would be to be flexible to switch between DH pure DPS and Qickbrand.
  16. After i've done my first leggy there was one thing that i've learned: I don't like wvw. It's just not my cake of gameplay and game mode. So i started to think how i can ''avoid'' it. My solution is to do easy dailys on the wvw maps if i'm half full of the reward track i start to gather the other stuff i needed. Atm i even feel it's easier to get a gob this way than doing map completion over and over again for gift of exploreration wich feels after 8 leggys way more tedious than getting a gob. Honestly i think pvp/wvw players are more screwed to do things outside of their main gamemode to get leggy weapons than us pve players.
  17. >But a question that can be made is, should mobs in Path of Fire+ have their engagement distance reduced? That's a good one. Like on other topics towards difficulty/annoyance in the OW there should be a middle way. I would say yes. But not generally. A good compromise for me would be tune down some of the aggro range for some types of mobs but others should stay like how they are. I would take the route of having a wider aggro range on guarded places like fortresses of the the forged or heartland/main structures of jokos awakend forces. Maybe an other workround would be that different types of mobs are capped on the ability to call for help. Something like a normal food soldier can bring max 3 other mobs into battle by calling out for help or for every mob which is joining the radius for get other mobs into battle will decrase for a ceratin amount of range. Other mobs like commanders/leaders/vets should have a long aggro range and should be able to draw more mobs into battle by calling out for help.
  18. One of each class. I also have a bunch of fun and/or fashion/cosplay toons. When i started out gearing up for cm/raids i build one power/condi set of ascendet gear for every armor profession. But when my rooster filled up with other additonal toons i was to lazy to moving the gear around so i geared al classes up. So switchting to another toon for a specifig build/role was way more comfortable. These days i mostly play ow/story so i will never craft additional ascendet gear again, there is no need for it. I spend my time on legendarys instead because we all know, moar shiny things moar fashion wars!
  19. Ty all for you fast replys and helpful advices. >Mind you, if you haven't already done so, consider running with Kalla, but run Devastation and the three bottom skills instead of Invocation. The self-healing you can get out of Battle Scars in PvE is pretty ridiculous, particularly when combined with Icerazor. Even if you run Jalis, it might be worth considering Devastation instead of Retribution. This is the plan :) I will try corruption/devestation/renegade. I was also thinking to just run some kind of core build but the lack of condi weapons aside from mace/axe bothers me. I also like to have the options to play mid range so shortbow is for me the only viable option. Hammer don't feel good even on power builds i see no real use for it on an condi or hybrid pve build. If i want cc to eat breakbars i always can go with a staff which also brings some minor condi clean with it. I mean in the end everything goes in ow/story but i prefer to have at least some kill speed combined with a good amount of selfsustain. I really hope Rev is getting a power based more self oriented DPS spec with the new expansion. Overall i really love the flow of the class and the switching of legends. It's like a breeze of fresh air to me which brought back a lot of fun gameplay wise. Not just like line up your burst and wait for the CD's to fall off. The only class which feels a little bit the same to me is ele. But i like heavy armor looking knightish classes way more than those robe wearing dudes. Can't wait to bring the rev into HoT to test what his capebilitys on soloing the HP challanges over there are. It will certainly a steep learning curve, to get used to CD's+ energy managment and weapon/legend swapping while under pressure.
  20. I would also advice any kind of minion master necro. Just summon you minions and use your weapon skills. You don't need to bother with the minion skills just let them smack the enemys. You can built yourself really tanky up to a stage where you even don't need to dodge because you can outsustain any incoming damage.
  21. >If you said you think PoF mobs are just fine and not annoying and perfect then cool but you are instead telling everyone they can't find mobs annoying because they have a bad build and need to l2p. But this is imo the main problem in GW2. A bad build can carry you just up to some point. After you reach this point you have to carry your weight with your individual play skills. I play this game since release and yes my opinion is mostly build on anecdotal evidence to this topic (Backed up with some stats the Dev's said like the DPS differences between players on their metrics) but a lot of long time players i talked about this topic in the past gravitated towards the same conclusion: Most people struggle with learn to adept. L2P is in the OW/Story not that big kind of a problem because you can AA trough 99% of all mobs if you using dodges proberly. The last big outrage regarding towards difficulty we got was in POF to the EoS i think. First of all yes i think the first nerf was necessary beacuse the boss mechaniks were a little bit wonky and badly tuned. But the follow up nerfs were just straight too much because they turned the boss mechanik into a joke. I don't even thought there was anything hard/wrong with the boss (I've already had done him on 3 toons before the first nerf came in) until a guild mate told me about the salt in the forums. There were pages of complaints about this boss. In those threads there were a lot of very helpfull people who explain how to kill the boss even without abusing some wonky range tactics. Most of the people who were complaing refuse to take any kind of helpfull advice. No i dont want to change my utility. No i don't want to take another trait or weapon for some hard cc... Just nerf it so i can move on without any effort. I've done a lot of PoF content over the last years ( Bountys and Metas are my thing in this game i do them daily even public map completion HP runs) and i never run in this big difficultys as they are described here aside of one or two areas wich are intended to have a high mob dense. I just don't see where it regularly happened that you can't mount because you always aggro/chainpulling something. The most ''anyoing'' thing is that every mob seems to have some kind of baked in condition apply, but with some extra cleanse utility/trait or sigil you can easily work around that. Also the projectile hate of Harpys/Jacs can easily avoided with the right utility. Guarded gather nodes (Aside from a handfull with some Vets or those nasty Fire Djiins) are also easy clearable just with the raptors tail swipe into an AA chain or one offensive cd skill. I don't want to say that everyone who struggles with PoF/HoT in terms on qol things or difficulty is a bad player or need to ''get gud'' and also i promote play what you like because i think at the end of the day we all play it for fun so play what seems fun to you... But as long as it is possible to take out legendary bountys solo or finishing big metas solo only by adjusting a build with stats and traits nearly every problem we speak about can be solved by using mechaniks the game offers to us players. Edit for some typos.
  22. >I have to agree that there is plenty of room to play the way you want to play. I build and play for the things I like to do most, which is solo play open world/story, WvW roaming, unranked PvP. In terms of group PvE I will do strikes if my guild happens to be doing them and I like to do my T4 fractal dailies sometimes, usually via LFG. But raiding and CMs I have only done a little bit. >Given that, I play a roamer-style build that is tough as nails while dealing solid damage. It's resilient enough to survive all of the HoT champions solo, while also dealing enough damage to take most of them down in less than 60 seconds. The burst and sustained damage is adequate for strikes and T4 fractals, even CMs, but not appropriate for something like a daily static (which is fine, because I've never been a part of one!). >I can use almost the same build and play style at plat level in PvP or go solo roam with it (I'm well over rank 2000 there), too. It's not meta for anything. I don't even use anything close to the recommended rotation, stats, or even trait lines for my class. But I have at least some idea of what I'm doing and I've made these choices for a reason to come up with a play style that I enjoy and does what I need it to do. To me, that's the magic of GW2's "do whatever you want" method of handling buildcraft. Ah nice to see you commenting here. Imo your buildcraft and gameplay with your Mirage and now Weaver ist one of the prime exsamples what you can achive on soloing with a non meta build as long as you know what your doing skillwise and what are the encounter mechaniks . Even with incredible cheap gear variants. Also other guys like Lord Hizen proof again and again that you can do incredible things solo. I've already wrote it earlier but i don't know any other game with such a wide possible working build varity than GW2. You can nearly any type of stats and gear make working in some way. Are they all Meta? Surly not but you can do nearly all kind of content on non metabuilds imo as longs as you know what you are doing.
  23. >and those 90% difference is one of the primary reasons for this problem. by scaling the game to the top 10 %, they basically flipped of all the normal players. not much casualism left there. it will hurt them in the wallet too, who do you think they are making the next expansion for? >if i have to go to another website to find a build, then the game has failed. if they let me get to max level with "wrong "build, then the game has failed if they dont let me play my own build, then there is no point in playing an RPG at all But GW2 delivers greatly to ''i play how/what i want'' players. You can beat all OW Stuff including every LS and basic group content up to T3 Fractals with any build you want. The only difference to a tailor made build for this type of content is that in the most time it's just more time intensive. The most important thing is the individual player skill in this game because we have no gear progression. Give one player who don't know anything about the class, mobs, skillmechaniks and breakbars a full ascendet equipped optimized build and another player who has knowledge of all these thing a not optimized build with green gear and he will easily outperform the metabuild just by be the better player. That's why i love GW2 so much. You can do everything how you wanna do it only the top Tier content ''needs'' meta stuff to be done. And even there you can run a cm or raid with non meta builds or teams it will just take longer. You don't need to get a lucky gear drop. You can really easy obtain bis gear from that point on only your skill is important if something is hard or easy. I have a group of friends we played DnD together when we where young. In those days we have a RPG group in Tyria. We all run flavour builds. I play a supportive human knightish/paladin like guardian with commanders gear and ministrel trinkets Mace/Sword/Shield as weapons and only shouts. The other player's run also rpg builds. We have done everything beside raids with this build comps. Once a month we do run a cm fractal. One run takes as long as a full daily run on a Metacomp but is perfectly doable.
  24. >And of course, I'm the opposite. I effortlessly hopped to WoW after experiencing PoF Just out of curiosity do you had a better experience in WoW regarding to the topic than here? I'm also a long time WoW player but i had the feeling in WoW mobs are much more anyoing especially while flying is still not unlocked if an xpac is new. It was anoying to a point to me wehre i stopped farming on my DK main and create an druid alt for this to skip trash with stealth. I even stopped playing Blood DK in the OW because players always dumped their aggroed packs into my DnD and AoE's and i had to deal with them. Those things never happened to me here in GW2. > Don't you get tired of whacking mobs all the time? I don't have the feeling i need to whack them in a negativ way of the meaning to this. They just melting away by no real effort. It's not about combat satisfaction in the OW. If i need to scratch this itch i try to solo bountys or metas. But for me it's a big point of imersion if i have at least the feeling if i'm in enemy territory there is some threat to me. HoT overdue this in some areas by far. In PoF i never feel threatened at all. And no we don't need a raid encounter like mob design but some challenge is really important i think. I mean c'mon Balthi is the freaking God of War or Joko he is an extreme Powerfull Lich and they presented as a serious threat to Tyria but even their best soldiers/servents feel like walking lootbags and oposes no threat at all. >To me whacking mobs becomes boring quickly, especially when I'm not there to whack anything. In personal stories, combat is (to me) just a way to gate my progression. What is so fun wasting time on AI? I can agree to this to in some cases. I find most LS Story Bosses just plain boring especally in LS3/4 where they are mostly HP sponges and the ''difficulty'' is created by endless carpets of death spams. That's why i advocate for more real mechaniks in the ow to mobs. Lower the mob density but give them some more seroius mechaniks that can not be ignored by just face tanking it. >Even punching a bag irl is more understandable because it affects your body in positive ways. It's OT but funny you mention this i love doing a good bag workout after a stressfull day at work. For me this and MMA training overall is my true passion. >Maybe I just wouldn't be able to understand. Either way... what you said goes both ways. In the end it's just a game most important thing is to have fun the way one wants to enjoy it. If there is no more joy it's time to move on at least for me. So have a nice weekend.
  25. >I'd say that as a whole it's even worse than that. The community need to be educated about more than just what necro have to offer, it's need to be educated about what non meta build can offer (and that's huge). The "meta head" like you call them just worship blindly meta builds. Aside from CM and Raids imo meta does not really matter. And even there you need a premade group to get the most use out of it. Sure it is usefull and has it's place if i play with guildies or my static we mostly run a metacomp if we do cm because it's just so much smoother and faster if evrerybody knows his role and the mechaniks. GW2 is a skill based game. In other MMO's you can compensate the lack of game knowledge and/or player skill by outgearing content with the time if the game progressed on. Unfortunately imo the playerbase is already divded trough a huge skillgap. This comes from the huge difficulty differences of the open world related to instanced content. I run a lot of T1 fractals just for the fun these days. People start to complain even there about playing a non meta build. Happned yesterday on my Spellbreaker to me. Uhhhh we think you play berserker why not berserker so much more DPS hurrdurr... Ended up that the guys goes down to Mai Trin within the first two minutes in a god damned T1 tier for like 4 times. On the fifth try i soloed her from around 80%. Took a while but def/strength/SP is perfekt for those kind of stuff. After i finished her they just left instantly...
